Hattie Mae Jeffers Wyatt
BRANCH - Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 1:00 P.M., at Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Church in Branch for Hattie Mae Jeffers Wyatt, 92 who died Saturday May 29, 2004 at her residence in Branch.
Survivors include three sons and their wives Dr. H.P. and Sarah Wyatt of Georgetown, Kentucky; Coy and Estelle Wyatt of Abbeville, and Wayne and Gloria Wyatt of Rayne; one daughter and her husband Elaine and Buddy Gilbert of Branch; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Wyatt was preceded in death by her husband Ivan Wyatt; her parents William E. and Lillie Brown Jeffers; five brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be Monday, May 31, 2004 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until services.
Burial will be in the Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Luberta Allen
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Crowley for Luberta Allen, 73, who died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Interment will be in Frey Cemetery in Mowata. Father Richard Sadlier will officiate at the services.
Survivors include her daughter, Versey A. Dioron of Crowley; her sons, Felix Allen of Crowley; Paul Allen, of Crowley; and Alfred Allen, Jr. of Port Author, Texas; her brother, Clarence Washington of Crowley; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Agnes Leger Miller
IOTA - Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Agnes Leger Miller, 85, who died May 27 at the American Legion Hospital.
Fr. David Broussard will officiate for the services. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota. Visitation will be observed Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to service time. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iota.
She is survived by 13 children, Barney Miller and his wife Ruby; Rose Lewis and her late husband Reese; Minnie Roy and her husband Lee; Anita Roy and her husband Rodney; Merlin Miller and his wife Gerlyn; Myrtle Kibodeaux and her husband Wayne; Murray Miller and his wife Cheryl; Leven Miller and his wife Darleen; Gwen Hoffpauir and her husband Hubert; Patty LaCasse and her husband Phil; Lawrence Miller and his wife Dinah; Michael Miller; and Barbara Beynon and her husband Doug; three brothers, five sisters; forty-six grandchildren; fifty-seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Miller is preceded in death by her parents, Euliee and Elmire Lejeune Leger; her husband, Paul R. Miller; three children, Even Miller, Hilton Miller and Lorraine Miller; three grandchildren, eight brothers and sisters.

CROWLEY – Mr. Aneston Leleu, 80, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Crowley Guest Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 28 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley. Burial will be in the Ky Hebert Cemetery in Roberts Cove under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley.

RAYNE – Prince Trenell Morris, 28, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at American Legion Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 29 at Owens-Thomas Funeral Home in Crowley. Burial will be in the West Crowley Cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home.

CROWLEY – Mrs. Alice Joyce Vallier, 80, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at American Legion Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 29 at Owens-Thomas Funeral Home in Crowley. Burial will be in the West Crowley Cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home.

SULPHUR – Mrs. Brenda “Ms. B.” Courmier, 59, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at her residence in Gillis, La. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 27 at Liberty Cemetery in Elton under the direction of Robinson Funeral Home of Sulphur.

HOUSTON – Oscar “Chaff” Domino, 73, died Saturday, May 22, 2004 in Houston. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 29 at Bethel C.M.E. Church. Burial will be in the West Crowley Cemetery under the direction of Frazier Mitchell Funeral Home of Houston.

CHURCH POINT – Mary L. Bihm, 69, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 27 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Church Point. Burial will be in the church mausoleum under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

IOTA – Francis Cleveland Ricky Simar, 41, died Friday, May 21, 2004 at his residence in Iota. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 24 at Iota Cemetery under the direction of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Iota.

Carlton James Prevost
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 24, 2004, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne for Carlton James Prevost, 62, who died on Friday, May 21, 2004 at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
The visitation will be observed on Sunday, May 23 from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., and on Monday from 7:30 a.m. until service time.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery #2.
Survivors include friend and companion, Thelma Smith of Rayne; one daughter, Dawn Rae Gerbine of Rayne, and her mother, Barabara Gerbine of Rayne; father, C.J. “Clarence” Prevost of Rayne; one sister, Nell Prevost Istre and her husband John of Rayne; one brother, Leewood J. Prevost of South Carolina; one nephew and his family, John Istre and wife Rachel and their two daughters, Brittany and Ashley; one niece and her family, Jena Istre Bordes and her husband Coty and their son, Andy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice Faulk Prevost.

CROWLEY – Ethel Lynn Leger Faulk, 52, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at Crowley Guest Home. Graveside services was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 21 at Arceneaux Cemetery. Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley is in charge of arrangements.

Eugenia “Jean” Clayton
CHURCH POINT - Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Eugenia “Jean” Clayton, who died at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Interment was in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Father Francis Bourgeois officiated at the services.
Survivors include her daughters, Melanie Choate of Branch; Laura Lavergne and her husband Gary of Cedar Park, Texas; her beloved husband’s children, Curtis Ray Clayton and his wife Cheryl of Iota; and Linda Terrebonne and her husband Terry of Lake Charles; her brothers, Pierre Comeaux of Church Point; and Harold Comeaux of Church Point; her sister, Denise Arceneaux of Roberts Cove; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Woodford Clayton.
Visitation was observed on Sunday, May 23, at 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Monday, May 24 at 8 a.m. until time of service. A rosary was prayed on Sunday by Deacon Paul Matte

Lucille Gresham Raymond
Graveside services for Lucille Gresham Raymond, 87, will be held at 11a.m. Friday, May 21, 2004, at Woodlawn Cemetery with the Reverend Roger Brown, paster of First Presbyterian Church of Crowley officiating. Mrs. Raymond died Thursday, May 20, at her residence in Lafayette.
Mrs. Raymond was known for her love of the LSU Fighting Tigers, her passion for sailing on cruises and for her beautiful needlepoint.
She is survived by a daughter, Sheilah Raymond Wright; a son, John Victor Raymond, Jr. and his wife Kay, both of Lafayette; a granddaughter, Christine Wright Brasseaux and her husband David of Kenner; a brother, Thomas Gresham and his wife Joan of Shreveport and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Victor Raymond; her parents, Vernet Lamar Gresham and Christine Long Gresham; her step-father, George Eckels; a sister, Christine Guidroz and a brother, Lamar Gresham.
The family requests that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Crowley, 312 E. Fourth St., Crowley, Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnson St., Suite 200, Lafayette, La., 70503 or to the charity of your choice.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the women who cared for her during the last months of her life.

Cecil Willard Peterson, Jr.
EGAN - A memorial service will be held today, May 21, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Leo the Great in Leonville for Cecil Willard Peterson, Jr., 62, who died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at his residence in Egan. Father Paul Metrejean will officiate the service.
Survivors include his wife, Buffie Peterson of Egan; one foster son, Chris and his wife Malessa Dupuis of Egan; one son, Greg Peterson of N.C.; one daughter, Lisa Brooks of N.C.; two sisters, Tootie Carrier of Patterson and Marciel Tidmore of Franklin; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Peterson, Sr. and Irene Miller Peterson. In lieu of flowers, the family request prayers.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1:30 p.m. until service time on Thursday.

Nalton James Wiltz
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2004, at Saint Theresa Catholic Church in Crowley for Nalton James Wiltz, 79, who died Monday, May 17, 2004, at his residence.
Father Richard Sadlier will officiate the services. Burial will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 22 with viewing until time of services.
Survivors include his wife, Celena Wiltz of Crowley, his son, Larry Wiltz of Crowley, one sister, Edolia Farnel of Parks, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Percy Lee Harmon, Sr. (Tripe)
A memorial service will be held May 21, 2004 at 6 p.m. at Bethel C. M. E. Church, 320 West Hutchinson, Crowley for Percy Lee Harmon who died May 13 at Willis Knights Hospital.
Rev. Leslie Dugas, Jr. will conduct the service. Burial will follow on May 22 at 1 p.m. in Shreveport. Heavenly Gate Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Leatha Mitchell of Port Arthur, Texas; his step-mother Carrie Jean Broussard Harmon; his loving companions Louise William and "Rusty" and his ex-wife Mary Helen Harmon; one son Percy Lee Harmon Jr.; one daughter Leatha Harmon; two step-daughters Joquite Garner, Viola Garner and four grandchildren all of Shreveport; his dearest Aunt Viola Harmon Lavergne (Aunt Bay) of Crowley; six brothers, James Harmon, Jr. of Crowley, Warren Scott, David Small, Patrick Small and Dexter Small, all of Texas; Bradford (Wennette) Harmon of Rayne; eight sisters, Veronica Gott Richard of Lafayette, Elizabeth Jolivette, Brenda Jolivette, Maureen Roberts, Elaine Carter all of Rayne, Alice and Cynthia Harmon of Lafayette; Bonnie Small of Port Arhtur, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and so many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Harmon Sr.; his adopted mother, Pearlie B. Harmon and his grandparents.

James Allen Harmon
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2004, at 2p.m. at Bethel CME Church for James Allen Harmon, 22, who died on Wednesday, May 12, 2004.
Rev. Leslie Dugars will officiate for the services. The visitation will be observed on Saturday, May 22, from 10 a.m. until service time at Owens-Thomas Funeral Home in Eunice.
Interment will be in the Methodist Cemetery in Branch.
Survivors include his father, Hayward J. Babineaux of Houston, Texas, his brother, Hayward Harmon of Germany, his sister, Shantell Babineaux of Missouri City, Texas and maternal grandmother, Elnora Washington of Crowley.

Lois Marie LeJeune Cooper
ALEXANDRIA - Lois Marie LeJeune Cooper, 79, widow of MacBee B. Cooper, passed away May 15 at Christus St. Francis, Cabrini Hospital.
Mrs. Cooper was born May 27, 1924, in Egan, one of 14 children of Mark and Maria Leger LeJeune. She retired from teaching at L. S. Rugg Elementary School, and also taught at Ruby Wise (La.) Elementary School and, the Oil City School in Evangeline. Her 40-year career as a Catechism instructor at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church ended only with her passing.
She held a master's degree from the University of Northwestern Louisiana in Natchitoches, and a bachelor's degree from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette).
Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a son, Heath Harbour Hanno Cooper; grandson, Myles C. Humbles; and seven siblings, Wava Mouton, Mertrice Reagan and Myles, Larry Sr., Hugh, Henry and Francis LeJeune.
She is survived by five children, Margaret M. Cooper and Dr. Victoria L. Swanson, both of Lafayette, Franklin P. and Dalton M. Cooper, both of Alexandria, and Gayden Cooper Taylor of San Leon, Texas; six siblings, Patricia Bullard of Houston, Verda Andrepont of Basile, Charlesa Dupaquier of Mandeville, Elmo LeJeune of Egan, Ray LeJeune of Houma and Carl LeJeune of Jennings; six grandchildren, Joel and Mark Wright Frankie Renee Humbles and Sarah Cooper, all of Lafayette, Cadesby Cooper of Pineville,and Anna Cooper of Austin, Texas; and one great-grandson, Kamryn Wright of Youngsville.
Friends may pay their respects 4-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at John Kramer & Son, 2905 Masonic Drive in Alexandria. A rosary will be held 7 p.m. Friday at Kramer's. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Prompt Succor by the Rev. Dan O'Connor. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park. Lilly Mae Bunker
Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Lilly Mae Bunker, 76, who died Sunday May 16, 2004.
Survivors include one daughter Linda Bunker McCall of Indian Bayou; three sons Allen Ray Duhon of Branch, Ronald Duhon of Crowley, and Jerry Sylvester Bunker II of Indian Bayou; one sister Rose Viator of Abbeville.
She is also survived by 7 grandchildren Cody Louviere of Indian Bayou, Kihra and Myles Bunker of Indian Bayou, Dawn and Tiffany Duhon, and Lisa Hebert all of Crowley, Bonnie Ashby of Missouri, and Angel Rawles of Houma; 16 great grandchildren Lexie Ashland Louviere, Brylan Villien, Megan and Gaige Duhon, Austin, Tyson, and Brent Duhon, Dylan, Broc, and Christian Hebert, Anna, Quinlan, and Kit Rawles, Lauren, Charles and Rachael Ashby.
Mrs. Bunker was preceded in death by her Husband Jerry Sylvester Bunker Jr., one son Donald Duhon; her parents Odile Pommier and Bernard Hebert; two sisters Lula Comeaux, and Bea Johnson.
Visitation will be today May 18, 2004 from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until services. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be in the Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Church in Branch under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

Mildred Jaschke Armstrong
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2004, in the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Mildred Jaschke Armstrong, 86, who died Friday, May 14, 2004, in Orange, Texas.
Rev. Roger Brown, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Crowley, officiated the services. Burial was held at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation was observed Sunday, May 16 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and continued Monday from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Survivors include her sister, Eugenie Jaschke Musacchio of Crowley; a nephew, John Jaschke of Lafayette; two nieces, Eugenie Yocum of Crosby, Texas and Sylvia Armstrong Zaunbrecher of Crowley and a great-niece, Victoria Sanchez of State College, Penn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Percy Armstrong; her parents, Otta Jaschke, Sr. and Eugenie Calwer Jaschke and two brothers, Otto Hubert Jaschke, Jr. and Oscar Jaschke.

George Bertrand
George Bertrand, 80, of Evangeline, died peacefully at the Jeff Davis Living Center in Jennings at 9:45 a. m. Monday, May 17. He was a native of Evangeline and a 1941 graduate of Iota High School.
George was a veteran of World War II, having served in th European theater of operations. After his discharge, he worked in the oil fields briefly. He then attended SLI, now UL of Lafayette when he was a First Sergeant in the Air Force ROTC unit. Upon graduation he taught for two years and then entered the Air Force as a Second Lieutenant. He served 20 years and retired with the rank of Captain. Upon his return he served as a teacher, as Acadia Parish School Board’s Director of Adult Education, as State Supervisor of Adult Education and as State Director of Adult Education
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Edna Lavergne Bertrand; a son, George Gerald of Orlando, Fla. three step-children, Donna Presley of Jennings; Denny Lopez of Jennings; and R. J. Lopez of Houston; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. John Bertrand of Crowley and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Avery Bertrand and Anaise Boone Bertrand; a brother, Joseph Francis Bertrand; one sister, Lorraine Bertrand Strickler.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Matthews Funeral Home in Jennings.

Dr. Jack Allen Hoffpauir
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Dr. Jack Allen Hoffpauir, 56, who died Wednesday, May 12, 2004.
Rev. Roger Brown officiated the services. Burial was held at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation was observed from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 14 and continued Saturday, from 8 a.m. until time of services.
Dr. Hoffpauir graduated from U.S.L. and obtained his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University.
Survivors include his daughter, Saja Hoffpauir of Tenn.; his son, Jack Hoffpauir, II of Florida; his brother, Girard “Sandy” Hoffpauir of Maryland and his former wife, Sarah Alexander Hoffpauir of New Orleans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Girard and Estelle McSherry Hoffpauir, Jr. and one brother, Robert Hoffpauir, Sr.

Ronald Joseph Levy, III
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, 2004, at 3 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church for Ronald Joseph Levy, III, 21, who died on Wednesday, May 12, 2004.
Father Gary Schexnayder will officiate for the services. The visitation was observed on Thursday, May 13, from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and will continue on Friday from 8 a.m. until service time.
A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Ronnie and Donna Richard Levy, Jr. of Crowley; his brother, Rick Levy of Crowley; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Richard of Hayes; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Levy, Sr. of Bogalusa; and his girlfriend, Ashley Fontenot of Crowley.
The music will be played by Susan Comeaux; and the readers will be Connie Anzalone and Tanya Romanowski.
Mr. Levy was a member of the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the U.S.S. Rhode Island, a ballistic submarine.

Marla Cassandra Freeman
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15, at 11:30 a.m. at the First Church of God in Christ in Crowley for Marla Cassandra Freeman, 45, who died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will be in West Crowley Cemetery. Elder Alton Gatlin will officiate at the services.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher and Keenan Freeman of Lafayette; three brothers, Brent Garrett of Dallas, Texas; Richard Garrett of Memphis, Tenn.; and Michael Brown of Harbor City, Calif.; five sisters, Glenda Johnson of Alfarette, Ga.; Marilyn B of Oakland, Calif.; Claudette G. Bunting of Lafayette; Margaret Richardson of Omaha, Neb.; Sheila Croker of Chesapeake Va.; and her aunt, Mary Harmon of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her father, Adam Chiasson and her mother, Lela Garrett.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

IOTA - Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, May 13, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Donna Doucet, 45, who died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at her residence in Iota.
Interment will be in Reed Cemetery in T-Mamou. Father David Broussard officiated at the services. A rosary was prayed on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis “Frog” Lejeune of Iota; a daughter, Alisha Dawn Miller of Iota; a son Garrett Joseph Lejeune of Iota; two brothers, John Carroll Doucet of Basile and James “Jimmy” Doucet; two sisters, Susan D. Vasseur of Basile and Janet D. Blansett of Little Rock Ark.; five grandchildren, Phillip John Miller, Jace Elliott Miller, Alaina Claire Miller, Khylee JaNell Miller and Kharisa Miller; her parents, Phillip and Nell Guillory Doucet of Basile

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church for Rose Bollich Leonards, 90, who died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Southwind Nursing Home.
Interment will be in St. Leo’s Cemetery in Roberts Cove. Father Louis Richard will officiate the services. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley.

Dr. Martin F. Samson
Dr. Martin F. Samson, 89, died at 8:59 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2004 in Lafayette General Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Crowley. Father Gary Schexnayder will be officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
He is survived by two brothers, George C. Samson of Crowley and Dr. Clarence L.M. Samson of New Orleans, his former wife, Evelyn McBride Samson, and several nieces and nephews: Frank M. Milliken III of Dallas, Anna Milliken Davis of Owings Mills, MD, Donald Milliken of Lafayette, T’Anne Samson and Andre’ Samson both of New Orleans and George C. Samson III and Fran Samson both of Lafayette.
Dr. Samson was preceded in death by his parents Clement Joseph Samson and Anna Martin Samson, his sister, Anna Louise Samson Milliken, and nephews George C. “Bo” Samson Jr., and Jack Samson.
Dr. Samson was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, where he was baptized. He graduated from Crowley High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwestern Institute (now UL-Lafayette). He graduated from Louisiana State University Medical School at New Orleans and received a Medical Doctor Degree prior to his internship at New Orleans Charity Hospital. He joined the U.S. Army Medical Corps before the United States entered World War II and served with combat units in Europe until victory in the European theatre.
Upon his return from service he began private practice in Crowley, emphasizing in Family Medicine and specializing in Internal Medicine, where he built a reputation in cardiology. Dr. Samson served Crowley and the surrounding community for many years and will be remembered for his willingness to make house calls. He was a staff physician of American Legion Hospital for many years.
His special interests included history, hunting fishing, and cooking. He took great pleasure in being able to reproduce a secret recipe from scratch with no help from the originator. Dr. Samson was noted for his humor and ability as a storyteller. He loved to travel and visited many places of interest ion the United States and Europe. He was a member of the American Medical Association and American Legion Post 15.
“Mot” as he was affectionately known, will be missed by his many relatives, friends and former patients.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m.to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of services. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. tonight.

She was a native and resident of Gueydan. She was a cafeteria worker for 20 years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

“Nannie,” as she was so fondly called by her family, dedicated herself and her life to God, her parents, siblings, nieces and nephews following the death of her fiancé, Lecaster Istre, in a military plane crash during World War II. “Nannie” had that ability to quiet the crying child with a rocker and her humming, always being there to lend a helping hand.

Mr. Beard was a member of the Northside Assembly of God Church located here in Crowley and also a 32nd Degree Mason. He belonged to the American Legion Post 15. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Beard was also retired from Grey Wolf.

William “Bill” Redlich
HOUSTON- Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, May 5, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Crowley for William “Bill” Redlich, 87, who died Sunday, May 2, 2004, at Tomball Regional Hospital in Tomball, Texas.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley. Father Gary Schexnyder will officiate at the services. A rosary will be prayed on Tuesday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Redlich was better known as Bill or Hoss. He lived in Crowley until he left to join the U.S. Navy which he proudly served for 12 years and became a veteran of World War II as well as a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned home to Crowley where he was employed by Evangeline Motors as a paint and auto body specialist then took a career as an instructor at the Southwest Louisiana Vocational Technical School from which he retired.
Bill really enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest. He was a family man and always the life of the party. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He also was a musician that enjoyed singing and playing guitar. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Dupuis Redlich of Houston; two daughters, Sybil Jurica and husband Ken of Houston, and Jackye Spell of Houston; two brothers, Hank Redlich of Crowley and Dago Redlich of Crowley; three sisters, Lillian Campbell of Lafayette, Julia Hargrave of Lafayette, and Ethyl Leger of Rayne; four grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Abshire of Crowley; two daughters, Dolores Matthews and her husband Norris and Stella Guidry and her husband Warren, all of Crowley; three sons, Clarence Abshire, Jr. and his wife Linda of Sulphur, Howard Abshire and his wife Cynthia of Gueydan, and Edward Abshire, Sr. of Mire; one brother, Clifton Breaux of Crowley; 16 grandchildren and their spouses, Monica M. and Jackie Taylor, Bryan and Linda Guidry, Angie A. Rios, Edward Abshire, Jr., Heath Abshire, Jody and Jonathan Mayer, Tony and Tina Matthews, Christy and Jared David, Casey Abshire, Misti Abshire, Caitlyn Abshire, Ronda B. and Mark Richard, Christy A. and Jason Godfrey, Marty and Leslie Gaspard, Christopher and Stephanie Abshire and Nadine and Randy Lepretre; and 21 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Abshire is preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings. She was a life long member of St. Aloysius Church in Midland where she belonged to the Alter Society.
Pall Bearers will be Christopher Abshire, Edward Abshire, Jr., Heath Abshire, Marty Gaspard, Tony Matthews and Casey Abshire.

Cleobule John “Speedy” Simon
GUEYDAN - Funeral services will be held Monday, May 3, 2004 at 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in St. Peter Catholic Church honoring the life of Cleobule John “Speedy” Simon, 79, who died April 30, 2004 at Lafayette General Hospital.
He will be laid to rest in Gueydan Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his seven grandsons. Reverend Mitchell Guidry will officiate at the services.
He is survived by his wife, Irene P. Simon of Gueydan; two sons, Clifton John Simon and his Beverly C., Callen Ray Simon and his wife Kathy W. all of Gueydan; four daughters, Corney Ruth Simon, Fannie S. and her husband Stacy Broussard, Claudette Price all of Gueydan; Jenny S. and her husband Brian Blanchard of New Albany, Indiana; twelve grandchildren, Rusty Doucet, Curt and Shannon Simon, Stacy Jr., Craig and Jerry Broussard, Rachel Price, Kelli Simon, Cale and Bubba - Jordan Simon, Jordan and Tori Blanchard and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thonte Simon and the former Angelle Primeaux, two sisters, Annette Primeaux and Yolande Schexnider and a granddaughter Amy Kathryn Simon.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 311 Fourth Street, Gueydan Louisiana, Sunday, may 2, from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Monday May 3, from 8 a.m. until services.
All funeral arrangements are being conducted by Vincent Funeral Home of Gueydan.

Shirley Leleux Harris
Funeral services is pending Monday, May 3, 2004 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Estherwood for Shirley Leleux Harris, 86, who died at 12:05 p.m. May 1, 2004 at Lafayette General Hospital.
Officiating for the services will be Msgr. Paul Metrejean, and assisting him will be Msgr. Russell Harrington, Fr. Rusty Richard, and Fr. Thomas Habetz.
Rosaries will be recited at 4 p.m. by the Ladies Alter Society and 7 p.m. Sunday.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley.
Mrs. Harris was born September 5, 1917 in Estherwood. She was a graduate of Southwest Louisiana Institute in Lafayette, which is now University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she obtained her degree in Lower Elementary Education. Mrs. Shirley retired from the Acadia Parish School System after teaching thirty-one years. She also taught Parochial Schools for another 15 years. Mrs. Harris also served in the Parent Teacher Association.
She held various offices and was active in the St. Margaret’s Catholic Church Parish Council including president, and the Ladies Alter Society. Mrs. Shirley was a Religious Education Instructor for over 15 years. She belonged to a weekly rosary group and received the Bishop’s Medal Award in 1993. Mrs. Harris will be sadly missed by family, friends and her community.
Mrs. Harris is survived by her son, Dr. Donald Paul Harris and his wife Julie of New Iberia; her daughter, Judy Ann Harris Guillet and her husband, Paul of Stafford, TX; two brothers, Wilbur Joseph Leleux, Sr. of Lake Charles and Loren Muriel Leleux and his wife Eurella of Duson; two sisters, Carrie Leleux Cramer and her husband Norbert of Crowley, and Hilda Leleux Chiasson and her husband Bobby of Welsh ; three grandchildren, Paul Harris and his wife Shelly, Liz Tremblay and her husband Claude, and Emily Harris; one step-granddaughter, Amy Guillet and four great-grandchildren, Claude, Gabrielle, and Jacques Tremblay, and Joshua Harris.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Harris; and parents, Dominic and Pauline Leleux; and one brother, Harold Paul Leleux, Sr.
Visitation may be observed from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until the time of service on Monday.

Alzena Leger Fisher
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday May 1, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Alzena Leger Fisher, 92, who died April 29 at her residence in Iota.
Fr. David Broussard officiated the services. Rosaries were recited at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota.
Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iota.
Mrs. Fisher was known as “Nan Tee” to her family and friends. She was born April 11, 1912 in Church Point on the family farm. Mrs. Fisher was a housewife and loved quilting and listening to french music. “Nan Tee” will be sadly missed by her family, friends and community.
She is survived by three sons, Raleigh Miller and his wife Audrey of Iota, Larry Miller and his wife Jackie of Iota, and Rodney Miller of Scott; two step-children, Jerry and Sue Fisher of Baton Rouge; twelve grandchildren, Timmy, Brad, Stewart, Jonny, Sammy, Benny, Glynn “Bruneaux”, Bryan, Michael and Eric Miller, Danna Daigle, and Josette Guillory; nine step-grandchildren, Gwen C. Latolia, Sharon C. Richard, Edgar Credeur, Peggy C. Portie, Kim Guidry, Jake Medeiros and Nathan Medeiros; sixteen great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Whit, Carlton, and Mitch Leger; and six sisters, Lillian L. Goodwin, Agnes L. Miller, Irene L. Lagros, Nell L. Liebert, Jeanette L. Firmin and Edoline L. Martin.
Mrs. Fisher is preceded in death by her first husband, Abraham Miller; second husband, Grant Fisher; her son, Calvin Miller, her grandson, Louis J. Miller, her great grandson Lee Miller; her parents, Ulysse and Elmire Lejeune Leger; three brothers, Sulice, Paul and James “Cage” Leger; three sisters, Virginia L. Miller, Ledeana L. Lejeune, and Rose L. Stelly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was observed from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
The Fisher family would like to thank her sitters who took care of her for the last two months, her nieces, Anita Roy, Carol Doucet, Wanda Myers, and Rhonda Monceaux. They would also like to thank Paula Simon, Susan and Jim Powers, and Wanda Trahan; Iota First Responders who came to her aid several times and Chief Scotty Pousson and his officers and deputies who came to help too; Father David Broussard came that morning to anoint her; Dr. Mcmanus who took good care of her; and all the friends and neighbors who visited and called her and brought her treats.
