Barton Freeland, Jr.
CROWLEY – Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church for Barton W. Freeland, Jr., 77, who died Wednesday, November 17, 2004 at 2:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Rev. Roger Brown will officiate the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family requests visiting hours are observed Thursday from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to service time, at First Presbyterian Church, 321 East Fourth Street, Crowley.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Chachere Freeland of Crowley; one daughter, Debbie F. Jabusch and her husband Bryan of Egan; four sons, Russell Barton Freeland and his wife Carolyn of Crowley, Brett Anthony Freeland and his wife, Jessica of Prairieville, Brad Woodward Freeland and his wife Robin of Egan, Kevin Paul Freeland of Crowley; two sisters, Mildred F. Finch and her husband Doug of Spring, TX, Louise F. Larsen and her husband Vince of Billings, MT; nine grandchildren, Jana Fowler and her husband Dean of Crowley, Emily and Russell Freeland of Crowley, McKenzie and Michaela Jabusch of Egan, Zachary and Jacob Freeland of Prairieville, Hunter and Emma Freeland of Egan; one special niece, Carey Simon of Roberts Cove.
Mr. Freeland was Past President of the Crowley Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, Elder and life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church, Past President of LIMCO, President of First National Farms and a member of the Board of Directors of First National Bank for forty years.
Pallbearers will be Billy Prather, Dalton Lyons, Keith Wild, Bryan Jabusch, Bobby D'Aquin and Russ Freeland. Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Cowen, Wilson Abshire, Kenny Privat, Richard Seale and Donnaud Williams.

Rebecca Bass Huckabay
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2004 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Rebecca Bass Huckabay, 85, who died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Rev. Duane Petersen, Associate Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.
Mrs. Huckabay, the daughter of the late Thomas H. Morris, III and the former Iris Lorraine Huckabay, was a native of Delhi and a resident of Lafayette. She was a cheerleader and a member of the Redjackets at SLI, was a devoted school teacher for many years. Mrs. Huckabay was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Church of the Ascension.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday, November 18, from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will continue on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
She is survived by two sons, Robert M. Bass and his wife Linda of Lafayette and William M. Bass and his wife Elizabeth of Lafayette; eight grandchildren, Scott K. Bass, Robin E. Crook, Aaron S. Bass, Casey W. Bass, James A. Bass, Robert A. Bass, Carrie L. Bass and Amy R. Bass; six great-grandchildren, Lauryn Bass, Claire Bass, Tyler Bass, Sean Bass, Alexis Bass and Sydney Crook.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas H. Morris, III; her mother, Iris Lorraine Huckabay; her step-father Percy Leon Blum; first husband, William T. Bass and second husband, Dr. Calvin Huckabay.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette.

CHURCH POINT – Mrs. Louis Johnson, nee Lucille Perrodin, 104, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 at Acadia-St. Landry Guest Home in Church Point. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the old church cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

Francesca Ann Cuccio
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2004 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Francesca Ann Cuccio, 25, who died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at the Medical Center of the Southwest in Lafayette.
Father Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday, November 18, from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Friday, November 19, from 8 a.m. until the time of service. A rosary will be recited on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
She is survived by her parents, Guy and Kay Davis Cuccio of Crowley; two brothers, Guy A. Cuccio, III and his fiance Claire Johnson of Portland, Oregon and Frank J. Cuccio of Crowley; maternal grandmother, Ruby S. Davis of Crowley; paternal grandparents, Guy and Ida Cuccio of Egan; her nephew, Angelo Cuccio of Portland, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Frank Davis and her paternal grandmother, Marie Cuccio.
Francesca was a 1997 graduate of Midland High School and had recently returned to Crowley after living in Florida for six years. Her beautiful smile and warm heart will always be remembered by her family and many friends.

Elwood Cashi
  Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Monday, November 15, 2004 at St. Michael Catholic Church for Elwood Cashi, 63, who died Saturday, November 13, 2004 at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur.
  Father Gary Schexnayder officiated for the services.
  The visitation was observed on Sunday, November 14, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Monday, November 15 from 8 a.m. until the time of funeral services.
  Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
  He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Regan Cashi of Sulphur; two sons, Timothy Frank Cashi and his wife, Angie of Egan and Troy Daniel Cashi of Egan; two grandsons, Timothy Frank Cashi, Jr. and Caleb Lynn Ray; three step-grandsons, Anthony Mitchell and William Ray; six brothers, Weldon John Cashi and his wife Myrna of Crowley, Larry James Cashi of Lafayette, Allen Ray Cashi and his wife Debbie of Bakersfield, CA, Brian Keith Cashi and his companion Pat of Crowley, Mark David Cashi and his wife Savannah of LaPort, TX and Lonnie Dean Cashi and his wife Debbie of Mermentau; two sisters Rose Marie DuBose and her husband Donnie of Lafayette and Brenda Sue Menard and her husband Kenny of Deer Park, TX.
  Mr. Cashi is preceded in death by his parents, Alodia and Elinor Touchet Cashi.

Hattie Hoffpauir Sarver
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 11 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Hattie Hoffpauir Sarver, 79, who died November 8, 2004 at Cornerstone Hospital of Houston.
Reverend Charles Floyd, pastor of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, will be officiating for the service. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Mrs. Sarver was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Texas City, Texas and LaMarque American Legion Post 8248 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Kay Jeffers and her husband Elmer of LaMarque, Texas and Brenda Floyd and her husband Maurice of Crowley; one son, Billy Sarver and his wife Diana of Baton Rouge; two sisters Katherine Rhames of Sante Fe, Texas and, Geraldine Sarver of Crowley; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sarver is preceded in death by her husband, Delaney Sarver; one daughter, Margaret Lorraine Sarver and her parents, Marion and Ethel Spell Hoffpauir.
Visitation may be observed Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Marian M. Patterson
JENNINGS - A memorial service for Marian M. Patterson, 80, will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 10 at the First Presbyterian Church in Jennings with Reverend Tom Reighney officiating. Mrs. Patterson died Sunday, November 7, 2004 at her residence. Funeral home visitation was from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Tuesday.
She was a lifelong resident of Jennings and a 1941 graduate of Jennings High School. She graduated from SLI, now ULL class of 1944 and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity
She was a retired school teacher, member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, charter member of the Jennings American Legion Hospital Pink Ladies, served on the board of directors at the Zigler Museum, Carneige Library and South Louisiana Holiness Camp Meeting Association, member of the Revelers and Entre Nous. In 2002 she received the 10th annual Jennings McComb Award from the Chamber of Commerce “for dedication and service to our community”. She was also the recipient of “Friends of the Arts” award from the Arts Council.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ann Shipp of Houston and Susan Comeaux and husband Shelby of Crowley; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Joy Toups of Missouri City, Texas; five grandchildren, Craig Louis Toups and wife Danya of Baton Rouge, Lucie Shipp Tredennick and husband Owen of New Orleans, Carrie Leigh Comeaux of Crowley, Christopher Ben Comeaux of Crowley and Amanda Toups Seymour and husband Justin of Greenville, Texas and two great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church, Louisiana Hospice Foundation or Heifer International.

ESTHERWOOD – James Melvin Hoffpauir, 63, died Sunday, November 7, 2004 at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley.

RAYNE – Camilla Haure Vienne, 82, died Sunday at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday From 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m., until services. A rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

John Melton Miller Sr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for John Melton Miller Sr., 69, who died Sunday, November 7, 2004 at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Father Gary Schexnayder will officiate for the services. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in Mowata. The family request visiting hours are observed on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Wednesday at 8 a.m. until service time. A rosary was recited Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Gotreaux Miller of Crowley; one son, John Miller Jr. of Albuquerque, N. M.; two daughters, Helen Dartez and Melissa Miller, both of Crowley and four grandchildren, Merlin Dartez Jr., Kelli Dartez, Hannah Miller and Kaitlin Miller.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Thibodeaux Miller and his father John Louis Miller.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Duhon Funeral Home.

Remy Lantz
Funeral services were held Monday, November 8 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Remy Lantz, 90, who died Saturday, November 6, 2004 at his residence.
Father David Broussard, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiated at the funeral Mass. Interment followed in St .Joseph Mausoleum.
Mr. Lantz is survived by his wife of 70 years, Annette Seilhan Lantz; and three daughters Loretta married to Francis Short of Iota; Carol, married to Jim Constantin of Lafayette; and Linda married to Joseph Stemplewski of Iota. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, David Short and wife Stephanie of Crowley, Douglas Short and wife Cheryl of Iota, Patricia S. Fontenot and husband Pat of Livingston, Danny Short and wife Kayla of Iota, Roxanne C. Leblanc and husband Matt of San Antonio, Texas, Brian Constantin of Lafayette, Lance Constantin and wife Carol of Denton, Texas and Gretchen and Joshua Stemplewski of Iota; twelve great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Mr. Lantz is also survived by four brothers, Gilbert Lantz of Ragley, Theodore Lantz of Lafayette, Webster Lantz of Evangeline and Zannie Raspberry of Mansfield and two sisters, Lula L. Hebert of Jennings and Ora L. Richard of Crowley.
Mr. Lantz was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eva Leger Lantz; a daughter, Sister Mary Annette Lantz of the Most Holy Sacrament in Lafayette; a brother, Wilbert Lantz and a sister, Inez Cart.
Pallbearers were his six grandsons, David, Doug, and Danny Short, Brian and Lance Constantin and Joshua Stemplewski. Honorary pallbearers will be his great and great-great grandsons, Gregory, Christopher, Tyler and Garrett Short, Corey Fontenot, Bryce Leblanc, Caleb Henry and Tristan Miller. Readers for the Mass were his granddaughters, Patricia Fontenot, Roxanne Leblanc and Gretchen Stemplewski. Offertory gifts were presented by his great and great-great granddaughters, Mandy Short, Celeste S. Henry, Maggie S. Miller, Melissa Short, Heather Fontenot, Remi Leblanc, Chloe Miller and Caylyn Henry.
Mr. Lantz began his life career as a cotton and rice farmer at a very early age and working as a carpenter part time. He then became a full time carpenter in 1967, both self-employed and working for the Acadia Parish School Board until he semi-retired at the age of 65. He continued his life's work building houses for his children and grandchildren and working with the land again, supplying his entire family with fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers. He was a very hard worker and loved working with the land and his animals. Family was a very important part of his life and you could always see him enjoying a Sunday gathering with all of his children and grandchildren around. He was a quiet unassuming man who would always lend a hand to whoever asked and a very religious man. He will be deeply missed by all who know and loved him.

RAYNE – Glenn E. Throop, 54, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at the Jewish Hospital of Kenwood, Ill. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 8 at Indian Bayou United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

IOTA – Adele Blanchard Lejeune, 99, Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Crowley Guest House. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., November 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota. Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CROWLEY – William Clement, 97, died Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Southwind Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, November 5 at St. Michael Church in Egan. Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Rene Spell
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 5, at 2 p.m. at Northside Assembly of God Church for John Rene Spell, 75, who died Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Rayville, LA.
Reverend Lloyd Singley will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family request visiting hours are observed Friday from 8 a.m. until service time.
Survivors include two sisters, Roberta Turgeon of California, Pheobe Cormier of Crowley; two brothers, Douglas MacArthur Spell of Crowley, Wainwright Spell of Scott.
Mr. Spell was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Earl and Rose Granger Spell and one brother, Oran Spell.

Lillian Matte Cormier
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, at 3 p.m. in Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Lillian Matte Cormier, 75, who died Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at Rayne Guest House.
Reverend Bill Hudson, pastor of First Baptist Church of Rayne, will officiate the funeral services and the graveside service in Saint Joseph II Cemetery in Rayne.
Mrs. Cormier is survived by two sons, Emery Joseph Cormier and his wife Linda of Jasper, Texas and John Cormier and his wife Paula of Crowley; three daughters, Anna Marie Menard and her husband Warren Breaux of Sulphur, Linda Cormier of Crowley and Cynthia Sue Terro of Crowley; three brothers, John Hilliard Matte and Clifford Matte both of Ebenezer and Gervy Matte of Colleen, Texas; one sister, Nettie Jean Courville of Loreauville; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one son-in-law Timson Terro.
Mrs. Cormier was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Joseph Cormier; her parents, Ophey and Elaina Miller Matte and two brothers, J.B. Matte and Leutry Matte.

Sam Robinson
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, at 1:30 p.m. in Saint Michael’s Catholic Church for Sam Robinson, 84, who died Monday, November 1, 2004 in Crowley.
Mr. Robinson was born in Crowley. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy on a Sub chaser. Mr. Robinson retired as a Captain after 35 years of service with the Crowley Fire Department and will be honored by a Fireman’s Funeral.
Father Gary Schexnider, Pastor of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, will officiate the Mass of christian burial and the committal service at Woodlawn Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Survivors are his wife, Agnes Dubois Robinson of Crowley; one son, Phillip A. Robinson of Crowley; one daughter, Roxana Mouton of Houston; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley will be in charge of arrangements.

Lionel “Tot” Eglan
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4 at the Church of Christ at 11 a.m. for Lionel “Tot” Eglan, 70, who died Sunday, October 17 at his residence in Crowley. Reverend Larry Guidry will be the officiant of the services. Interment will be in Maryland Chapel Cemetery in Branch.
He was born to the late Ovey and Ella Mae Comeaux Eglan. During the time of his illness, he excepted christ and became a member of the Church of Christ. Lionel was a good worker and hard worker. He was employed by Republic Wholesale for over 30 years.
“Tot” leaves to cherish his memory, one brother, Charles Eaglin of Crowley; three sisters, Betty Eaglin Segura of Crowley, Betty Brackins of Baton Rouge and Jo Anne Gage of Lafayette; one aunt, Anna Nixon of Rayne and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 5 at the Church of Christ from 8 a.m. until time of service.

James A. “Dee” Gardiner
RAYNE – Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at a Mass of christian burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church for James A. “Dee” Gardiner, 67, who died on October 30, 2004 at his residence. Entombment will be in St. Joseph #2 mausoleum.
Survivors include his three daughters, Jaime Henderson of Lafayette; Tisha Collado and husband Mike of Lafayette; Jody Hammes and husband Terry of Lafayette; two sons, Todd Gardiner and wife Shawne of Crowley; Jarrod Gardiner and wife Kecia of Lafayette; his mother, Madeline Sattler Gardiner of Church Point; one sister, Emma Gardiner Norris and husband Bill of Abbeville; 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his father, Gerald Wayman Gardiner; great aunt, Etta Guidry; aunt and uncle, Emma and Walter Daigle; paternal grandparents, Authur C. Gardiner and Mary Ellen Savoie; maternal grandparents, Joseph Sattler and Odile Guidry.
“Papa Dee” was a founder and member of Rayne/Church Point Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, member of Louisiana Funeral Directors Association and served as President in 1974-1975. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He was owner and operator of Gossen Funeral Home from 1967 to 1993 at his retirement.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2004. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 and 8 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, November 3, 2004.
Pallbearers will be seven of his grandsons, Keith Paul Henderson II, Zachary Henderson, Pvt. Joshua Henderson, Austin Zaunbrecher, Matthew Zaunbrecher, Michael Collado and Todd Gerald Gardiner, II.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana, Professional Home Health Service and close friend and caregiver, Ricky Chapman.

Lawrence Adam LeBouef
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, November 2 at Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Lawrence Adam LaBouef, 64, who died October 29, 2004 at Southdown Care Center in Houma. Interment will be in Old Crowley Cemetery.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey LeBouef of Crowley; one brother, Joseph LeBouef of Crowley; two sisters, Lillie Mae LeBouef and Louella Lebouef both of Crowley and six grandchildren.
Mr. LeBouef is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Lebouef and his parents Lezia and Josephine Primeaux LeBouef.
Visitation may be observed Monday, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Tuesday at 8 a.m. until the time of service.
