Earl Romero
  Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 30, 2004 at 10 a.m. in Saint Michael's Catholic Church for Earl Gerald Romero, 76, who died Tuesday September 28, 2004 in Lafayette.
Fr Gary Schexnider, pastor of Saint Michael's will officiate for the Mass of Christian burial and the committal service. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 8 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
  Mr. Romero spent countless hours of his time to the welfare of humanity and to making the City of Crowley a better place to live. He was a graduate of St. Peters College (Catholic High) and attended SLI (ULL) on Scholastic Scholarship, graduating in 1949. He then worked for United Gas Corp. (Entex) until his retirement in 1987 after 38 and one half years of service.
  Mr. Romero was a member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church, serving in the Altar Society, Men's Choir. He also served as cantor, decore committee and St. Ann's Chapel. He also volunteered three mornings a week to serve at the Crowley Christian Care Center.
  He also served on the Crowley Chamber of Commerce board of directors, being honored as Outstanding Board Member and serving as President of the Board. In 2002 he was selected as recipient of the Chamber's "Humanitarian of the Year "award.
Mr. Romero was a member of the Louisiana National Guard and Army Reserve where he was honorably discharged at a rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of American Legion Post 15 where he served as finance officer and also received the American Legion Post 15 Citizen Award.
  He was a very active member of the Crowley Rotary Club where he served as longtime treasurer and has also been recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow.
He was a past member of the Crowley Kiwanis club, the Bogalusa Knights of Columbus and the Crowley Knights of Columbus Council 1318, where he was still an honorary member.
Mr. Romero served as treasurer of the American Heart association for 15 years. Until retirement, he served as past president of the Crowley Town Club for 6 years. He was a past King Cimmer of the Town Club Mardi Gras.
He served as past Assistant Cub Scout Master and secretary for his son's Cub Pack and also as past president of the Girl Scout Council.
Survivors are his wife, Nettie Romero of Crowley, one son, Jerry Romero and his wife Nancy of Lafayette; one daughter, Debbie Agostini and her husband Joey, of Yorblinda, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Sharon Arabie and her husband Ken of Baytown, Texas and a stepson, Fritz Langley and his wife Ann of Baytown; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Romero and his wife Violetta of New Iberia and one sister, Shirley Bievenue and her husband Joseph of Longview, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubald Romero of New Iberia and one brother, Allan Romero.
Mr. Romero was born in New Iberia but had been a resident of Crowley for most of his life.
In Lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to the Crowley Christian Care Center.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley will be in charge of arrangements.

Garland Jefferson Hamic, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2004, at First Baptist Church for Garland Jefferson Hamic, Sr., 97, who died Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at Southwind Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crowley.
The Rev. Roger Tarver will officiate for the service. Interment will follow in the Old Crowley Cemetery.
Mr. Hamic owned and operated a local service station and sporting goods business in Crowley for many years, retiring at age 72. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed his camp at Toledo Bend and fishing in the Atchafalaya Basin. Mr. Hamic was a long-time member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Claudia H. Adams and her husband Jerry of Lafayette, Geraldine H. Meche and her husband Jimmy of Crowley and Charlotte H. Spell and her husband Sigmond of Franklinton; two sons, Garland "Buddy" Hamic, Jr. and his wife the former Nancy Spencer of Lake Charles and Jim Hamic and his wife the former Anne Williams of Plano, Texas; 15 grandchildren, Paul Adams, Judy Curran, Robert Meche, Vicky Cotton, Tammy Meche, Connie Doughty, Scott Meche., Cynthia Tucker, Catherine Tall, Christine Lilley, Garland J. Hamic III, Amy Keith, Ross Hamic, Kim Skaggs and Jimmy Hamic and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Edith Ross Hamic; his parents, James Claudius Hamic and Rosa Tutt; three sisters, Vivian H. Hoffpauir, Edith H. Buckley Barousse, Callie H. Hormell, four brothers, Causby Hamic, Sr., Rupert Hamic, John Hamic and one great granddaughter, Kate Elizabeth Meche.
Visitation will be observed from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home and will continue from 9 a.m. Friday until time of service at First Baptist Church.

Paul B. Leger
Funeral services were held Tuesday September 21, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. in the Gossen Funeral Home Chapel for Paul B. Leger, 78, who died Saturday, September 18, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
Survivors include his wife Iola Johnson Leger of Lafayette; two daughters and their husbands, Victoria and Larry Sonnier of Lafayette and Constance and Percy Abshire of Groves Texas; one sister, Florence Hebert of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Karen Sonnier Demette, Stephan Abshire Gayre, Kurt J. Sonnier and Christopher P. Abshire; eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michele Leger and Rose Nugent Leger and one brother, Tom Leger.
Pallbearers were Randy Demette, Davis Gayre, Christopher P. Abshire, Kurt Sonnier, Albert Leger and Tom Johnson
He was a member of the American Legion Arceneaux Post 77 of Rayne.
Visitation was open Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. with rosary recited at 7 p.m. and Tuesday at 8 a.m. until services. Burial was in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral home of Rayne.

CHURCH POINT – Mike Martin, 52, died Saturday, September 25, 2004 at in Durango, Colo. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 30 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point.

Eliska Stamm Zock
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 29 at 11 a.m. at Greesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Eliska Stamm Zock, 87, who died Monday, September 27, 2004 in Crowley.
Father Rusty Richard, pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, will be the celebrant for the funeral service and the committal services at Woodlawn cemetery.
Mrs. Zock was a native of Rayne and a long time resident of Crowley. She graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor's degree in education. Mrs. Zock was an elementary teacher for many years in the Crowley school system. Mrs. Zock was an avid gardener and loved flowers. She was a terrific homemaker and loved cooking and entertaining for family and friends.
She is survived by one brother, Stephen Morales Stamm and his wife Catherine Toon Stamm of Crowley; one sister, Joy Leach of Houston and also several loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Zock, three sisters, Paula Stamm, Aurelita McClendon and Jocelyn Page and one brother, Arnold F. Stamm, Jr.

RICHARD – Joseph Hermen Richard, 77, died Monday, September 27, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 30, at St. Edward Church in Richard. Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Vernice Leger Trahan
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 28 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crowley for Mary Vernice Leger Trahan, 80, who died September 26, 2004 at her residence in Crowley.
Father Rusty Richard, Pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary, will be officiating for the Mass of Christian burial. A rosary was led by Sister Justine Baker on Monday evening at 6 p.m. Interment will be in Saint John the Baptist Cemetery in Lyons Point.
Mrs. Trahan was born on September 30, 1923, in Lyons Point and was the daughter of the late Adonis and Alice Leger. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a member and past president of the Ladies Altar and Rosary Society, a member of the Come Lord Jesus group and a member of the Carmelite Secular 3rd Order for 49 years. She began the first Saturday Fatima Devotions at Immaculate Heart of Mary, she was a volunteer teacher for Adult Education and she worked with the elderly at Council on Aging. She will be sadly missed.
She is survived by five daughters, Callie Rose Trahan of Crowley, Judy Thibodeaux of Jennings, Paula Martin and her husband Donald of Crowley, Pam Trahan of Crowley and Roberta Trahan of Crowley; four sons, Dalton Trahan and his wife Velma of Crowley, Curtis Trahan and his wife Cathy of Katy, Texas, Bradley and his wife Virginia of Lyons Point, Michael Trahan and his wife Jacqueline of Sulphur; 39 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jules Trahan; her parents; one brother, Dallas Leger and two grandchildren, Brandon Jules Trahan and Jason Glen Trahan, Jr.
Pallbearers will be her four sons, Dalton, Curtis, Bradley and Michael Trahan. Also, Donald Martin and Clint Trahan will attend as pallbearers.
Visitation will be observed on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

RAYNE – Mrs. Beatrice Michon Alleman, 76, died Saturday, September 25, 2004 at University Hospital in New Orleans. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Rayne. Burial is pending. Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne is in charge of the arrangements.

Kathleen Powell Hester
Thibodaux - Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2004, with a Graveside Service at Woodlawn Cometary in Crowley for Kathleen Powell Hester, 82, who died Friday, September 24.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, September 27 with viewing until 8:30 p.m. Survivors include her husband, Dale R. Hester; two daughters, Peggy Grant and son-in-law James and Joan Melancon and son-in-law Dale; three grandchildren, Jennifer Grant and Alex and Gretchen Melancon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; George and Hazel Powell and her sister Helen Powell Gommer.
Mrs. Hester was raised in Nanticoke, Pa. She was a registered nurse and worked at Cornel Infirmary in Ithaca, N.Y. before her marriage and later worked at Portland General Hospital in Maine. She also obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. She retired from the Lafouche Parish School system in 1985. She was a former resident of Crowley for 14 years.

JENNINGS - Felix D. Broussard, Jr., of Jennings who died Saturday, September 25, 2004, at Jennings American Legion Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2004 at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery with full military rites.
Visitation will be observed on Sunday, September 26 from 2:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Monday, September 27 from 8 a.m. until time of service.
A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings.
Mr. Broussard was a native of Morse and a resident of Jennings before moving to Bundick for 22 years. After retiring from Jennings Production Credit Association where he was branch manager, he moved back to Jennings. He was a former member of the Jennings Lions Club and American Legion. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and past commander. He also served in the U.S. Navy in WWII.

Agnes Woods Premeaux
GUEYDAN - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 25, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Gueydan for Agnes Woods Premeaux, 94, who died Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at Gueydan Memorial Guest Home.
She was a native of Lyons Point and a resident of Gueydan. She was a charter member of the Ladies Alter Society and she loved gardening. She was known by her grandchildren as “Ma-Maw Bee”.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Pego and husband Beuford of Sulphur; two brothers, Loify Woods of Gueydan and Cliven Woods of Lafayette; her godchild, Delsa Woods Kercher and husband Chick of Long View, La.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in the Gueydan Cemetery. Matthews and Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

CHURCH POINT – Trae Louis Vanicor, 21, died Wednesday, September 22, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 25 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Richard. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

Dorothy Stewart Domingue
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2004 at 3 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church for Dorothy Stewart Domingue, 82, who died on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at the Crowley Guest House surrounded by her beloved family. Ms. Domingue was born on September 29, 1921.
Father Gary Schexnayder will officiate for the services. Visitation began on Wednesday, September 22 at 1 p.m. and will continue until time of service on Thursday, September 23, 2004.
A rosary was recited on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will be in the Old Crowley Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, John (Coonie), Donald and his wife Madeline and Steve and his wife Callie, all of Crowley; one sister, Rae Leen McLendon of Tulsa, Ok; four granddaughters; Donna Myers and her husband Ronnie, Marcina Trumps and her husband Tony, and Karen and Donielle Domingue all of Crowley; three grandsons; Carl and Thanda Domingue of Eunice, Kirt and Monica Domingue of Breaux Bridge and Wilson and Rachel Domingue of New Iberia; 16 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson P. Domingue, her father, Samuel Stewart, her mother and step-father, Alma and John Hammond and one great grandson, Caden Trumps.
Pall bearers will be; Cody Trumps and Chad, Blake, Wilson, Kirt and Carl Domingue.

KAPLAN – Terry J. Benoit, 51, died at Lafayette General Hospital September 21, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 23, at Vincent Funeral Home Chapel. Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan is in charge of arrangements.

CHURCH POINT – Anna Lee Burleigh, 65, died Friday, September 17, 2004 at her residence in Church Point. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 20 at the Church Point Pentecostal Church. Burial was held in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Cemetery in Church Point under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

CHURCH POINT – Rose Faul Janis, 88, died Saturday, September 18, 2004 at Acadia-St. Landry Hospital in Church Point. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 20 at Guidry Funeral Home. Burial was in the Our Lady of Sacred Heart Cemetery of Church Point under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

Mary Margaret Jabusch
Funeral Services for Mary Margaret Jabusch, 77, of Sulphur, was held at 9 a.m. Monday, September 20, 2004 at Our Lady Of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur. Father Brian Schloth officiated for the services. Burial was held in Old Crowley Cemetery.
Visitation was Sunday, September 19 from 2 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Monday, September 20 from 8 a.m. until service time. A Rosary was held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Miss. Jabusch passed away Friday, September 17, 2004 in a Sulphur care center, She was a native of Crowley and a resident of Sulphur. She was a former member of St. Michael Catholic Church of Crowley and a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church of Sulphur. She retired from the medical field as a secretary-receptionist.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Lemaire of Sulphur and Mrs. Lena Adams of Sulphur and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded by her parents, Robert and Helen Jabusch; six brothers, Leo Jabusch, Bob Jabusch, Jake Jabusch, Joe Jabusch, Emile Jabusch and Willie Jabusch and three sisters, Annie Chase, Helen Touchet and Katie Milner
Services were under the direction of Robison Funeral Home, 107 W. Napoleon St., Sulphur, La.

Marie Hebert Trahan
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Marie H. Trahan, the former Marie Hebert, 84, who died on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at 6:11 a.m. at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Burial will be recited by Fr. Gary Schexneyder. Visitation will be observed on Tuesday, September 21 from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 8 a.m. until service time.
A rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. with Sr. Justine officiating.
Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley.
Mrs. Trahan was born in Esther and lived the majority of her life as a resident of Crowley. She was married to the late Maxie Trahan for 60 years. Mrs. Trahan was most noted in the area for her collection of antiques. Along with her husband, she owned and operated the Crowley Flea Market and Marie’s Antique Shop.
Mrs. Trahan is survived by three children, Glenda Danna of Crowley, Larry Trahan and daughter-in-law Esther of Crowley, and John Trahan and daughter-in-law Denise of Rayne; six grandchildren, Carolyn Bertrand, Maxie Trahan, Jonathan Danna, Mary Elizabeth Danna, Bill Trahan and Claire Trahan; four great-grandchildren, Noelle Bertrand, Amelia Bertrand, Jeremiah Danna and Madelyn Danna.
Mrs.Trahan was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aliar Hebert; four brothers, Gaston, Leon, Aliar and Eraste Hebert; three sisters, Ida Louquette, Mildred Decuir and Madria Duhon and one son-in-law, Jerry Danna.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Danna, Max Trahan, Bill Trahan, Jeremiah Danna, Wes Bertrand, Bradley Decuir, Benny Decuir, Michael Decuir and Tommy Chaisson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Chaisson and S. Junior Luquette.

Elwood Richard
CHURCH POINT - Funeral services were held Saturday, September 18, at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Church in Branch for Elwood Richard, 81, who died Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Acadia St. Landry Hospital in Church Point.
Interment was in Elizabeth Memorial Cemetery in Branch. Pastor Brian Hoteling and Pastor Leldon Richard officiated for the services. Mr. Richard was a Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Eason of Branch, two sons, Geno Richard and wife Darlene of Branch and Shannon Richard of Church Point; one daughter, Toni Richard Romero of Crowley; three brothers, Wallace Richard of Branch, John Hugh Richard of Branch and Gary Richard of Rayne; three sisters, Freida Lyons, of Crowley; Natalie Quebodeaux of Branch and Cassie LeJeune of Lafayette; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernidine Bellard Richard; his son, Timothy Carl Richard; two sisters, Jessie Andrus and Geneva Low and one grandson, Ren Mitchell Romero.
Visitation was observed from 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Guidry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Adelia Cormier Bertrand
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 20, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Adelia Cormier Bertrand, 69, who died Friday, September 17, 2004 at 1 p.m. at American Legion Hospital.
Fr. Rusty Richard will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family request visiting hours are observed Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to service time. A rosary will be recited Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Bertrand of Crowley; three daughters, Brenda B. Cart and her husband Kevin of Houston, TX, Debra B. Ruddock of Pensacola, FL, Trudy B. Istre and her husband Christopher of Baytown, TX; three grandchildren, Nicholas Istre, Tiffany Ruddock and Kristi Istre.
Mrs. Bertrand was preceded in death by her parents, Alcide and Elidia LeLeaux Cormier.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and a Lay Minister prior to her illness.
Arrangement have been entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral of Crowley.

Paul Lasseigne, Sr.
Paul Walter Lasseigne, Sr., affectionately known as Mr. Paul, died at Tomball Regional Medical Center in Tomball, Texas, on September 15, 2004, two weeks before his 92nd birthday. Mr. Paul was born October 3, 1912, on St. Rose Sugar Plantation near Labadieville, Louisiana. He attended school in Labadieville before going to Loyola University where he received his degree in Pharmacy in 1934. Upon graduation Mr. Paul moved to Rayne to work at People’s Drug Store. In 1944 he opened Lasseigne’s Pharmacy which moved to three different locations before he sold it in 1989 and finished his career at People’s Drug store in 1992. He was a member of the Louisiana State Board of Pharmacy and received an honorary Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Loyola on the occasion of his 50th year as a pharmacist. He was devoted to his late wife Dorothy, and together they were active in their community for many years. Mr. Paul was the last surviving charter member of the Rayne YMBC and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He moved to Tomball, Texas, in 2000 to live near his children in his advancing years.
Mr. Paul is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Castille Lasseigne; parents, Paul and Agnes Lasseigne; and 3 brothers, Russell and wife Angie Lasseigne, Malcolm Lasseigne and Richard Lasseigne. He was a model father to his 3 children: son Paul and wife Carolyn Lasseigne of North Little Rock; daughters Paulette and husband, Steve Pharr of Magnolia, TX; and Joy and husband Bob Fontenot of Tomball, TX. He adored his 10 grandchildren: Brad and wife Ann Pharr; Jenny Pharr; Scott and wife Tricia Pharr; Wesley and wife Kelly Lasseigne; Stephen Lasseigne; Robby and wife Stacey Fontenot; Renee Fontenot; Michael Fontenot; Mark Fontenot; and Ryan Fontenot. He had 6 great-grandchildren. He leaves a sister, Eldridge and husband Earl Reese of Metairie; a brother, Jerry and wife Connie Lasseigne of Thibodaux; and two sisters- in- law Bessie Mae Lasseigne of Port Allen and Ellen Lasseigne of Thibodaux. Also left behind are Jessie Mae and Josie Mae Young who are cherished like family.
Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church Monday, September 20, at 10 am. Visitation will be at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne from 1 to 7 pm on Sunday, September 19. A rosary will be at 5pm. Pall bearers will be his 10 grandchildren. Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park, Lafayette, LA.

Alice Marie “Black” Moore
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2004 at Israelite Baptist Church in Crowley for Alice Marie “Black” Moore, 32, who died Saturday, September 11, 2004 in Klondike.

She is survived by her husband, Jonathan Moore of Crowley; her mother, Carrie Jean Harmon of Crowley; her two daughters, Ashantia Broussard and Kierra Guillory, both of Crowley; her son, Thaddius Broussard of Crowley; her sisters, Cassie Simmons of Woodville, Texas, Debra Johnson, Angela Augustus, Cynthia Harmon, all of Crowley, Elizabeth Jolivette, Brenda Jolivette, Maureen Roberts and Elaine Carter, all of Rayne; her brothers, James Harmon Jr. of Crowley, Larry Broussard of Abbeville, Aaron Broussard of Beaumont, Texas, Warren Scott of Houston and Bradford Harmon of Rayne.
She is preceded in death by her father, James Harmon, Sr.; one sister, Theresa Harmon and one brother, Percy Harmon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2004 at Wesley Methodist Church in Crowley for Michael Glen McFarlain, 53, who died September 15, 2004 at the Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Reverend Truman Stagg will be officiating for the service. Interment will be in. St. Lawrence Cemetery in Mowata.
He was a member of Wesley Methodist Church. Mr. McFarlain was a toolpusher for Grey Wolf Drilling Company for 33 years.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Beard McFarlain of Crowley; one daughter, Amy McFarlain of Crowley; one son, Todd McFarlain and his wife Polly of Eunice; two brothers, Harold McFarlain of Crowley, and Randall McFarlain of Deland, Fla.; and four grandchildren Kevin, Trevor, and Christian McFarlain and Madison Bernard.
Mr. McFarlain is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Vivian Perry McFarlain; and one brother, Kevin McFarlain.

Randy Joseph Meaux

Randy was called Home on Monday, September 13, 2004. He was the beloved husband of Janet Jackson Meaux and the adored father of David Gregory and Rachael Elise. He was a man who believed that actions speak louder than words, who lived a life that exemplified gentleness and kindness beyond measure. He lived the love he felt for others.
He was born November 22, 1953 in Kaplan. His loving parents were Dora Istre Meaux and U.J. Meaux. He was educated at Redemptorist Catholic Elementary, Crowley High and Crowley Vo-Tech. At the time of his death he was employed as an independent mud engineer.
He is survived by Janet, his cherished wife of twenty-six years and his son David and daughter Rachael. He is also remembered by his father, U.J., his older brother and sister-in-law Don and Debra Meaux and his sister and brother-in-law Melissa and Doug Smith.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Thursday morning at Geesey Ferguson with funeral services 1 p.m. at Northside Assembly of God. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family would like donations made to the Acadia Parish Library or Northside Christian School.
Acting as pallbearers will be life long friends Jimmy Trahan, Doug Smith, Robert "Tubby' Simon, Blake Istre, Randy Trahan and Hank Perry. Besides his family, Randy enjoyed golf, woodworking, movies, motorcycles and the humor of life and people. We who knew and loved him are blessed to have known him. He is already missed.

JENNINGS - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2004 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for Oza Romero, 94, who died Monday, September 13, 2004 at Oak Park Health Care Center.
She was a native and resident of Mermentau. She worked nine years at Broussard Rice Mill. She was involved in the Catholic Church projects at St. John the Evangelist and attended church regularly.
Visitation will be Thursday 2:30 p.m. until time of service. A rosary will be said at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Johnny Smith of Broussard, Larry James Smith of Mermentau and Monique Vincent of Lake Charles; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Breaux, Tommy Vincent and Nicholas Vincent.

LAKE CHARLES - Kate Elizabeth Meche, infant daughter of Scott and Sarah Meche of Lake Charles died at 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2004.
Survivors other than her parents include, brother, Davis Meche, of Lake Charles; maternal grandparents, John and Lelia Davis of Baton Rouge; paternal grandparents, James and Gerry Meche of Crowley; maternal great-grandparents, Rodney and Roseann Juneau of Cottonport; paternal great-grandfather, Garland Hamic, Sr. of Crowley and maternal great great-grandmother, Montez Juneau of Cottonport.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Jennings for Winfred Ray LeDoux, 62, who died on September 12, 2004, at the Jennings American Legion Hospital.

He was a native of Iota and a resident of Jennings. He loved motorcycles, country and western music and eating out.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, at Northside Assembly of God in Crowley for Ella Hanks Murphy, 87, who died on September 13, 2004, at her residence in Crowley.

Ella was a woman of faith and she had great love for God. She taught Sunday school when she was younger. She believed strongly in prayer and she had a great love for Gospel music. When she was a young girl she sang in church. When she got older she sang in church with her husband. She wrote a few Christian songs of her own.
She is survived by her four daughters, Joy Ann Lee of Crowley, Margie Driskill of Eunice, Jane Meyers of Houma and Brenda Miller of League City, Texas, two sons, Edward Murphy, Jr. and Ronald Murphy both of Houston, Texas, 24, grandchildren, 36, great-grandchildren and 19 great great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Murphy is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Murphy, Sr. and her daughter, Katherina Martin, four brothers and five sisters.

Louis John Zaunbrecher, 75, of Iowa, La. died at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2004 in a local hospital.
Mr. Zaunbrecher was a native of Mowata, La. and lived in Lake Charles for forty-four years before moving to Bell City five years ago. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired farmer.

Mrs. Crochet died at 3:27 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2004 in a Jennings Care Center.
A lifelong resident of the Iota area, she loved to sew and garden. She ministered many years to the sick in nursing homes. She was a member of Miller French Baptist Church, the Adult Sunday School class and the evening Training Union Department. She also worked in the church’s summer Vacation Bible School program for many years.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Barbara Crochet of Iota, Russell and Elaine Crochet of Iota and Billy and Fay Crochet of Eunice; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark Crochet, Ryan Crochet, Rhett Crochet, Kenny Crochet, Steven Crochet and Chris Crochet. Honorary pallbearers will be Robbie Welch and Kent Gatte.

She is survived by her mother, Jaunita Murrell of Crowley; three daughters, Angela Abshire Greanead and her husband Codey, Loretta Abshire both of Rio Vista, Texas, and Felicia Benoit of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Dominic Benoit and his wife Brandi and Andre Benoit both of Rio Vista, Texas; four sisters, Roberta Schmaltz, Marlene Prather, Bernadette Moeller and Mary Abshire all of Crowley; four brothers, Darold Murrell, Jr. of Baton Rouge, John Murrell, David Murrell both of Crowley; and Jeff Murrell of Egan; ten grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Earline D. Murrell
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2004 at First Baptist Church in Crowley for Earline D. Murrell, 84, who died September 8, 2004 at American Legion Hospital.
Rev. Roger Tarver officiated for the services. Interment will was in Old Crowley Cemetery.
Earline was born September 15, 1919, in Crowley. She was the daughter of the late David and Gertrude Schlisher Murrell. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was retired from the U.S.D.A.
Mrs. Murrell touched and influenced many lives. She was active in her Community throughout her life, most recently as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the American Legion Hospital Pink Ladies. The door to the house she and her sister Samara shared was always open to family and friends who will miss her bright smile.
She is survived by her sister, Samara Murrell of Crowley and seventeen nieces and nephews.
Earline was preceded in death by her two sisters, Marjorie Hayes, and Lenor East; and her brother, Darold L. Murrell, Sr.
Visitation was Thursday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Linus Joseph Doucet
JENNINGS- Funeral services for Linus Joseph Doucet, 93, of Jennings will be held Monday, September 13, 2004 at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church with Msgr. James Gaddy officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
A rosary will be recited tonight at 5:30 p.m. by Betty Legros.
Mr. Doucet died September 11, 2004 at 6:45 a.m. at his residence. He was born July 6, 1911 in Tepetate and was a resident of Jennings.
Growing up in the country areas of Pine Island and Iota, he enjoyed breaking in horses, a trade he learned alongside his father, Christoval Doucet. After he and his wife married, his mother, Melanie Bertrand Doucet, moved in with them and this was a time he cherished. He was a member of Our Lady Help Christians Catholic Church.
Mr. Doucet worked as a heavy equipment operator for Guy Scoggins, retiring at age 75. Among his many jobs he performed, he was most proud of the foundation work he laid for building the town Lake Jackson, Texas, and the nuclear plant in St. Francisville.
He enjoyed playing the accordion and didn’t mind letting his children, grandchildren and “adopted grandchildren” play the accordion. He enjoyed listening to Cajun French music. He shared information with cousins on the Doucet family genealogy.
After retiring he started a new hobby, repairing lawn mowers. Mr. Doucet enjoyed visiting with family and friends, spoiling his friends’ children and being a practical joker. Mr. Doucet was an avid Saints fan and also followed the actions of the Cowboys.
Most of all he cherished his family.
Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
Survivors include three sons and their spouses, L.J. Jr. and Ann Doucet of Cheek, Tx., Kenneth and Kathy Doucet of Lafayette and Preston and Janet Doucet of Jennings; two daughters and their spouses, Doris and Richard Hebert of Evangeline and Linda and Deryle Daigle of Lake Charles; 14 grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Doucet, Deryle Daigle, Kevin Ray Doucet, Butch Hebert, Troy Hebert and Gregg Hebert. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Bradley and Kevin Gene Doucet.
Mr. Doucet was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Alice Royer Doucet, his parents, Christoval and Marie Melanie Bertrand Doucet, his brothers, Mayuce and Louis Doucet and his sisters, Aricia Esthay, Marie Onelia Doucet, Laura Iguess, Alia Graves and Mary Thomas.

Wilfred Scott, Sr.
Funeral services are scheduled for noon Saturday, September 11 at Morning Star Baptist Church for Wilfred Scott, Sr., 79, of Crowley who died Saturday, September 4, 2004 in Crowley. Visitation is from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Interment will be in the West Crowley Cemetery with Rev. Donald Burnette, Sr. officiating.
At an early age, he was baptized at Providence Baptist Church in Ellis, Louisiana under the leadership of Rev. H. Y. Scott. He later united with Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a member until his death. He was also a member of Leonard Lodge #151 for many years. Wilfred Scott was a very outgoing person, and he truly enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends.
He is survived by one son, Wilfred Scott, Jr. and wife Frances of Pittsburg, Calif.; three daughters, Mary Jean Young and husband Rodney of Brown Mills, N.J., Cheryl Guidry and husband Dale and Rhoda Grace and husband Egbert both of Lafayette; one sister, Mary Lee Scott Harmon of Crowley; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Hester Richard Stakes
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 10, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church for Hester Richard Stakes, 81, who died Sunday, September 5, 2004 at 9:17 a.m. at her home in Freeport, Florida.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder will officiate for the services. The burial will be in Maxie Cemetery. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Thursday from 1 to 10 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to time of service. A rosary will be recited Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Stakes is survived by four daughters, Geraldine Stakes of Freeport, Fla., Ann Stakes of Medera, Calif., Sharon Stake of Omaha, Neb. and Sylvia Hoffpauir of Crowley; two sons, Keith Stakes of Satanta, Kan. and Bernard Stakes of Crowley; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, three sisters, Hazel Bellard of Groves, Texas, Belle Fusilier of Branch and Mary Fusilier of Rayne.
Mrs. Stakes was born January 14, 1923 to Damond and Josephine Guidry Richard in Church Point.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Bellard in 1946, Wilbur Stakes in 1991, her parents and two brothers, Leo and Lewis Richard.

Cpl. Joseph Thibodeaux III
Funeral services will be held at a 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 10, 2004 at Holy Cross Catholic Church for Corporal Joseph C. Thibodeaux III, 24, who died in Iraq while serving his country.
Interment will take place at Lafayette Memorial Park.
Rev. Martin C. Borcherding, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services.
Mr. Thibodeaux, the son of Joseph C. Thibodeaux II and the former Rebecca Istre, was a native of Lafayette. Joseph was a 1998 graduate of Lafayette High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 2000. Corporal Thibodeaux earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart as well as several marksmanship awards including one as Grand Champion, one First Place in pistol shooting and one second place for rifle. He is also the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.
Survivors include his parents; Mr. & Mrs. Joseph and Rebecca Thibodeaux of Lafayette; two sisters, Jennifer Karen Savoy and husband Bill of Baton Rouge, Brittany Leah Thibodeaux of Lafayette; three brothers, Gregory Donald Thibodeaux and wife Traci of Houston, TX, Major Maxwel Scott Thibodeaux and wife Monique of Washington, D.C., and Jerome Michael Thibodeaux of Lafayette; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Thelma Istre of Estherwood.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, O’Neal Istre, and paternal grandparents, C.J. and Anna Guidry, and Joseph C. Thibodeaux.
Visiting hours will be observed on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will continue on Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.

Andrus “Doo” Henry
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crowley for Andrus “Doo” Henry, 84, of Crowley, who died on Sunday, September 5 at the Crowley Guest Home.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley with Father Rusty Richard and Father Sonny Brown officiating the services
He is survived by his wife, Viola Henry of Crowley; his sons, Terry Henry and Cynthia of Lyons Point, Steve Henry and wife Janice of Monticello, Miss. and Bob Efthemes of Lafayette; one daughter-in-law, Becky Trahan of Crowley; one ex-daughter-in-law, Margie Horton of Crowley; three brothers, Lawson “Frere” Henry of Houston, Allison “Beb” Henry of Lyons Point and Daniel “Jeb” Henry of Crowley; four sisters Eldia “Sis” Woods of Gueydan, Hilda Leleu of Crowley, Joyce Henry of Lyons Point and Rhena Savoy of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Trahan, Robert Dartez, Cherisse Henry, Paula and Tim Connor, Carlton and Charlotte Henry, Corey and Heather Henry, Alecia Henry and fiance Brad Cormier and Chad Henry and girlfriend Abby Broussard; six great-grandchildren, Hayden and Brianna Henry, Ryan Dartez, Joshua, Lainie, Zan Michael Connor and one on the way; four grandchildren, Chris Hamilton, Renee Price, Lori Nelson and Jeremy Nelson; seven great-grandchildren, Alexandria Brianna Poole, Grant Istre, Jaden Delanely Price and Brandy, Brooke, Brittney and Arein Hamilton and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix Henry and the former Estelle Leleu; two sons, Carlton Henry and Shorty Trahan; one sister, Venia Henry and one brother, Leroy Henry.
A native of Lyons Point, Mr. Henry lived in Crowley for the past 12 years. He was a welder, mechanic as well as a farmer.
He served in the United States Army during WWII. He received the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Four Bronze Stars. He also received the Distinguished Unit Badge, Philippines Liberation Medal with One Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Lapel Button.
He served in New Guinea, Lugon, North Solomons, and Guadal Canal. He was a life time member of the VFW Post 6720 and a life time member of the American Legion Post 15 of Crowley.
Pallbearers will be Kirby Henry, Chad Henry, Tim Connor, Carlton Henry, Robert Dartez, Bob Efthemes, Corey Henry, Brad Cormier. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ryan Dartez, Jessie Credeur, Joshua Conner, Leonard Hoffpauir and Joe Leleu.
Visitation will be observed from 8 a.m. until service time on Wednesday. A rosary was prayed at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Susanna S. Holter
Susanna Simon Holter, 72, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, September 4, 2004.
Susanna was born January 7, 1932 to Roy and Susanna Simon in Crowley, Louisiana. She was a long time resident of Winnie, Texas and most recently, of Houston, Texas.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Jack J. Holter, Sr.; by her three daughters, Deborah Holter, Cheri Holter Zimmerman, and Pam Holter; by her son Jack Holter Jr.; by her son-in-law Jim Zimmerman; by her granddaughter Afton Zimmerman; and by her grandsons Shawn Bagley and Gregory Holter.
An informal Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 in the afternoon on Sunday, September 12, 2004 in the Chapel of That's My Wish, National Cremation Service at 5400 Highway 6 North, Houston, Texas 77084 (281) 855-4400.

Frances Gene Miller Earles
Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 11, 2004 at Asbury United Methodist at 10 a.m. for Frances Gene Miller Earles, 70, who died Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at her residence.
Mrs. EarIes, a native of Vinton, was the daughter of the late Roy Cash Miller and the former Iberia Evans. Frances Earles was a graduate of Crowley High School and De Anza Community College in Sunnyvale, Calif. She worked for the Fremont School District in Sunnyvale then transferred to the El Dorado Health Department in Placerville Calif. After her retirement, she moved to Lafayette. Mrs. Earles was active in ladies tennis (USTA) in Placerville and Lafayette. Her other activities included toll pointing, computer work and internet sales. Frances was a member and participant in the Gold Discovery Park Association in Coloma, Calif.
Survivors include her husband, Barnett J. “Duke” Earles; her daughters, Donna Dauterive and husband Dr. Ned Dauterive of New Iberia and Faith Earles-Pace and husband Andy of Placerville, Calif.; sons, Barney Earles and wife Janet of Charlotte, N.C. and Cory Earles of Auburn, Calif.; her sister, Maryln. Clarke of Crowley; her brother, Richard Miller and his wife Betty of Crowley; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents.

CHURCH POINT - Eva Johnson Oliver, of Church Point died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Doctor’s Hospital in Opelousas.
