James A. Franzel, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 2, 2002 at 2 p.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church for James Anthony Franzel, Jr., 80, who died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at American Legion Hospital. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. A rosary will be tonight at 7 p.m. at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel.
Visitation began at 10 a.m. today and will last until 10 p.m. The funeral home will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday with viewing until the time of services.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Marcellus and Karen Franzel of Rayne; two granddaughters, Tracey L. Franzel of Lafayette and Stephanie Franzel of Crowley and one great-granddaughter, Kamryn Klaire Semmes.
Mr. Franzel was preceded in death by his wife, Marilynn (Pat) Franzel and his parents, James Anthony Franzel, Sr. and Marie Zeruique Franzel, two sisters, Margarite Gary and Norine Broussard.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Burnice ‘Smokey’ Bernard
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crowley for Burnice “Smokey” Bernard, 82, of Crowley. He died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. at Jennings Guest Home in Jennings.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with Fr. Jerry Siebold officiating.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 10 p.m. and again on Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Bernard of Crowley; two sons, Shane Bernard and his wife Nancy of Sunset and Benton “Benny” Bernard and his wife Cherie of Welsh; four daughters, Marie Istre and her husband Burnell of Crowley, Patsy Kibodeaux and her husband David of Crowley, Susan Cormier and her husband Joey of Crowley and Pamela Richard and her husband Buford of Midland; one sister, Wimona Foreman of Vidor, Texas; one brother, Glen Bernard of Baton Rouge; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Amar and Eva Broussard Bernard, and one sister, Hattie Bernard Craft.
Bernard served in the United States Army during World War II and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 15 and VFW Post 6720 in Crowley. He was retired from the U.S. Post Office in Crowley after 27 years of service.

Wilfred ‘Bee’ Istre
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Crowley for Wilfred “Bee” Istre, 85, of Crowley. He died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2002 at Crowley Guest House.
Officiating for the funeral service will be Fr. Joe Greenwell, associate pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Istre was a retired road maintenance machine operator and worked for both the La. Dept. of Highways and the Acadia Parish Police Jury. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Crowley American Legion of Post 15.
He is survived by a daughter, Ida I. Murphy and husband Ervin; two sisters, Edith Lavergne and Ethel Leger, both of Crowley; two grandchildren, Tammye M. Morgan of Crowley and Shayne M. Moravits of Beaumont, Texas; five great grandchildren, Hillary Hanks, Hayley Morgan and Holley Morgan, all of Crowley, and Lukas and Logan Moravits, both of Beaumont, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Harrington Istre; three sisters, Eve I. Miller, Edola I. Spell and Vivian I. Broussard, and two brothers, Caesar and Willie Istre.
Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday. A rosary will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. and interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Richard Paul Roy
ESTHERWOOD - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Estherwood for Richard Paul Roy, 22, who died Monday, July 30, 2002 at 12:15 a.m. as a result of a traffic accident.
Officiating a prayer service at 3 p.m. will be Rev Roger Tarver and Larry Evans. Burial will be in the Estherwood Cemetery with Fr. Don Pousson officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
A native of Lafayette and a resident of the Estherwood/Crowley area, Roy was employed as a painter and sheetrock finisher.
He is survived by his father, Joseph Roy of Estherwood; mother, Gail Deshotel and stepfather James Deshotel of Estherwood; paternal grandmother, Verta Roy of Estherwood; three brothers, Randall Roy and wife Tina of Iota, Daniel Roy and wife Kellie of Morse, and Christopher Roy of Rayne; two sisters, Donna Cormier and husband Johnathon of Hathaway and Michelle Roy of Estherwood.
Pallbearers include Joseph Roy, Randall Roy, Christopher Roy, Johnathon Cormier and Keith Primeaux.
Honorary pallbearers are Michelle Roy and Donna Cormier.

Germaine Weil Maitral
RAYNE - A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. for Germaine Weil Maitral, 93, who died July 19, 2002 in Crowley.
Mrs. Maitral was born on Aug. 1, 1908 in Rayne and died on July, 19, 2002 in Crowley. She was the last surviving member of the Weil family that came to Acadia Parish from France over 120 years ago. Her family left Liverpool on March 25, 1905 and arrived in New Orleans on April 14, 1905. They settled in Rayne where her father and uncle, Jacque Weil, started the frog industry.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Maitral; her parents, Edmond and Marguerite Weil; her brothers, Jacque L. Weil and George Weil; her sisters, Aline Weil Privat, Margaret Weil Lalanne; Jacqueline Weil Richard and Georgette Weil Gauthier.
She is survived by four generations of nieces and nephews, most who live in south Louisiana.
A native of Rayne, she lived in Ontario, Calif. for over six decades. She was an executive assistant for an oil company for many years. Germaine had a warm and wonderful personality and always said what was on her mind. She loved her husband, her family, her gardening and needlework very much. She will be deeply missed by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the Landmark Nursing Home in Crowley, St. Michael Parish priests and Dr. Mulraj Katira for all of his care and warm assistance during the past few years.
Burial will be in Ontario, California.
For the Memorial Service, the First Reading will be read by her great-niece, Jan Gossen Ware. The Responsorial Psalm will be read by her great-niece, Mary Aline Nickel Melanson, and the Second Reading by another great-niece, Claire Dela houssaye Frantzen.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Rayne Catholic Elementary or St. Michael School.

Harry Curtis Driskill
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30 at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Harry Curtis Driskill, 59, who died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at 9 p.m. at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Burial will be at the North Hanks Cemetery with Rev. Roy Kibodeaux officiating.
Visitation included Monday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Survivors are his wife, Margie Driskill of Eunice; his mother, Maggie Sons Driskill of Statham, Ga.; three sons, Ernie Driskill of Montegut, Arthur Driskill of Crowley and John Paul Driskill of Eunice; three daughters, Debbie Driskill of Eunice, Susan Pierce of Kenner and Carmella Driskill of Many; two sisters, Madge Chiasson of Bogart, Ga. and Anna Mae Pines of Alpharetta, Ga.; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harry Driskill, and one brother, Melvin Driskill.
Driskill was retired after 42 years as a boat captain.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Shirley Istre Abshire, 51, who died at 11:20 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2002 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

She is survived by her mother, Sadie Nero Istre of Rayne; her husband, Lee Abshire of Lyons Point; two daughters, Jessica Sonnier and her husband Troy of Crowley and Kimmitha Welch of Crowley; three brothers, John Allen Istre, Carl Dean Istre and Ricky Istre, all of Rayne; five grandchildren, William, Dustin and Bethany Welch, and Megean and Blayne Sonnier.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 29 at Woodlawn Cemetery for Bonnie Grace Morgan Schneider, who died at 12:47 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Lafayette.
The services will be officiated by Fr. Keith DeRouen.
Visitation will be observed Sunday at 3:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.
A rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Adam “Butch” LaCombe Jr.
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 29 at St. Genevieve Catholic Church for Adam “Butch” LaCombe Jr., 61, who died Friday, July 26, 2002 at his residence in Lafayette.
Rev. Mikel Polson, associate pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, will serve as celebrant of the Mass.
Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette.
The son of the late Adam LaCombe Sr. and the former Della Fontenot, he was a native of Evangeline. He served his country for two years in the U.S. Army and two years in the U.S. Naval Reserves.
He worked with the Lafayette Fire Department for 37 years and retired as assistant chief in charge of Battalion C. He was a member of the Hobo Firefighters Association. He was also a past vice president of the Lafayette Firefighters Local 619 and was an auxiliary member of the Texas Longhorn Association.
Survivors include his wife, Clarisse Walters LaCombe of Lafayette; one daughter, Nicole LaCombe and fiancé Shane Motty of Lafayette; three sons, Damon LaCombe and wife Tammy Stelly of Carencro, Kyle LaCombe and wife Michelle Choplin and Bryan LaCombe and wife Donna Higginbotham, all of Lafayette; one brother, Russell “Buck” LaCombe of Iota; eight grandchildren, Danielle LaCombe, Dane LaCombe, Kylie LaCombe, Quaid LaCombe, Gavin LaCombe, Brittyn LaCombe, Natalie LaCombe and Zachary LaCombe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Dorothy Lee LaCombe; five brothers, Horace “Toto” LaCombe, Andrus “Blackie” LaCombe, Gordon Ray LaCombe, Jimmy Lee LaCombe and Raymond Lee LaCombe.

Rodney F. Hebert
TEXAS - Rodney F. Hebert, 75, of Beaumont died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at St. Anne Catholic Church under the direction of Broussard’s Funeral Home in Beaumont. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
A Christian Vigil was held at 6 p.m. Friday evening, July 26 at the mortuary.
A native of Crowley, Hebert lived in Beaumont for most of his life and was a retired operator from Dupont-Beaumont Works. He was also a United States Marine Corps veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Young Hebert of Beaumont; a daughter, Karen Cassity and husband Randy of Lumberton, Texas; his mother, Jean Roberts Hebert of Sulphur; a sister, Allene Hebert LaFleur and husband James of Sulphur; and three grandchildren, Jacob Cassity, Leah Cassity and Hannah Cassity, all of Lumberton, Texas.

Stephen “Steve” Hoffpauir
ESTHERWOOD - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Estherwood for Stephen “Steve” Hoffpauir, 45, who died Thursday, July 18, 2002 in Fayetteville, Ark.
The services will be officiated by Fr. David Broussard. Burial will be in Estherwood Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
Born June 7, 1957, in Houston, Hoffpauir was the son of the late Rodney and Eileen Eagan Hoffpauir.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Eileen Hoffpauir of Fayetteville, Ark.; four children, Ben Hoffpauir and Ross Hoffpauir of Arlington, Texas, Dara Sanders of Fayetteville, Ark. and Aaron Sanders of New Orleans; one brother, David Hoffpauir and his wife Tanya of Temple, Texas; one sister, Susan H. Myers and her husband Donnie of Estherwood; his maternal grandmother, Mamie Eagan Ray of Houston; one granddaughter, Anna Sanders of Fayetteville, Ark.; one nephew, Mitchell Myers of Estherwood; and two nieces, Lauren Myers of Estherwood and Brooke Hoffpauir of Temple, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ben and Lillian Leger Hoffpauir; his maternal grandfather, Francis Moran Eagan; and step maternal grandfather, Johnny Ray.
Steve was a broadcast engineer, a Catholic and was active in the Park Neighborhood Association of Fayetteville. He enjoyed several hobbies including Ham Radio (KB5WKW) and Boy Scouts. Steve was a former employee of KCEN-TV of Temple, Texas for six years.

LAKE CHARLES - The Rev. Wilfred “Zob” Lambert died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Lafayette General Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at Reeves Temple C.M.E. Florence Hartwell Richard
Funeral services for Florence Hartwell Richard, 88, of Crowley will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 21, the the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.
Co-officiating for the funeral service will be the Rev. Charles Floyd and the Rev. Bob Hollis. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation was from 3 until 10 p.m. Saturday and will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services Sunday. A wake service was held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Mrs. Richard died at 6:15 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2002, at Landmark, Inc., in Crowley.
In 1974, Mrs. Richard retired from teaching elementary school in Acadia Parish after 20 years of service. She was a graduate of Crowley High School and S.L.I. (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette). In earlier years, she was very active in various civic and church organizations.
She is survived by a son, Don Richard and his wife Kay; and two daughters, Barbara Badon and her husband Joe, and Linda Martin and her husband Clyde “Shoestring,” all of Crowley. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mathew Richard; five brothers, Lee, Frank “Slim,” Albert, Larry and Norman Hartwell; and three sisters, Olive Hartwell, Myrtle H. Cowen and Nell H. Prather.
Pallbearers will be Richard Badon, Derek and Ryan Richard, Larry Spaetgens, Vernon Joubert, Jay Williams and Shawn Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be her two sons-in-law.

Survivors include a son, Carlin Joseph Trahan of Crowley; two daughters, Mary Ann Trahan of Houston and Helen Trahan Spell of Rayne; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Angel Gaspard Trahan; one grandson, Scotty Trahan; his parents, Joseph and Alissia Trahan, and five siblings.
Mr. Trahan’s family would like to thank Wilfred (Blanc) Broussard and Emery and Hilda Stutes for the care and love they gave to their father.

Miss Irene Petitjean
Two words encompassed a life of graciousness and devotion to education and community betterment when spoken in Rayne. “Miss Irene” evoked immediate recognition and reverence when spoken in this community.
Miss Irene M. Petitjean, a much beloved community leader, passed away at 2 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, in her home at the age of 97, leaving a community endowed by her numerous contributions to mourn her departure.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2002, in St. Joseph Catholic Church here.
Serving as pallbearers were Edward Semar, Matt Bell, Gary Delatte, Paul Casey, Seth Hill and Winson Petitjean, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were Martin Petitjean II, Martin Petitjean III and Curt Petitjean.
Burial followed in the old St. Joseph Cemetery here, under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.
The Funeral Mass was conducted by Father Joseph Stemmann, a former associate pastor here.
The First Reading was presented by Lois Petitjean, while the Responsorial Psalm was sung. The Second Reading was presented by Claudette Germano.
The Offertory gift bearers were Anne Thelice Delatte and Desiree Casey.
The song selections by soloist and organist Valerie Andrus were How Great Thou Art, On Eagles’ Wings, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, and Notre Pere (Our Father in French).
Miss Petitjean was born on Nov. 21, 1904, the sixth child of Martin and Thelice Gaspard Petitjean in the family home at 503 North Adams Avenue, where she lived all of her life.
She was baptized on Dec. 3, 1904 in St. Joseph Catholic Church here. Her godparents were an aunt, Louiza Petitjean Breaux, and an uncle, Dermas Petitjean.
A member of an early Acadian pioneer family, her grandparents were Nicolas and Elouiza Esteve Petitjean and Telesphore and Azelie Richard Gaspard.
She is survived by four generations of nieces and nephews, with whom she was very involved during their growing up years. All spent a lot of time with her in the Petitjean family home. According to one niece, lessons in French and manners were prime goals of any visit, though, as children, the nieces and nephews retained fond memories of playtime in the large house.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin Petitjean and Thelice Gaspard Petitjean; three brothers, N. Curtiss, Winson J. and Joseph M. Petitjean, three sisters, Edna P. LaCour, Marie M. Petitjean, and Eve Petitjean; a niece, Henrietta LaCour Semar, and nephews, Martin LaCour, Lt. Edward LaCour and Lee Joseph Petitjean.
Miss Irene Petitjean began her career in education in 1922 at Mire Elementary School. In 1927, she transferred to Rayne, where she taught fourth and sixth grades. In 1930, she taught French, general studies and served as part-time librarian at Rayne High School. She taught French and math between 1938 and 1942 and served as principal of Rayne High School from 1942 to 1948.
She was a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International in 1939, served as state treasurer and was granted a 50-year membership certificate in 1989.
She was a willing volunteer for community projects, serving on both the City’s Bi-Centennial and Centennial Committees. She was a charter member of Rayne’s Youth Commission and the Rayne Historical and Cultural Association, Inc.
Along with other family members, she donated 12 acres of land on which Martin Petitjean Elementary School now stands.
She was appointed by the governor as a charter member of CODOFIL in 1968 and was named to the Executive Committee of the Louisiana Bi-Centennial Commission first by Gov. McKeithen in 1971 and Gov. Edwards in 1973. She was named to the Louisiana Arboretum Board by Gov. Edwards in 1974.
She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, serving as a CCD teacher and on various committees. She served a a board member of Rayne Catholic Elementary and was recognized as the first “Outstanding Achiever of the Lafayette Diocese in 1990-91. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Lay Carmelites, serving as prioress.
Miss Irene took particular joy in the home for the Carmelite Sisters. The home was built as a memorial to her mother and the Thelice Gaspard Sisters Home became a valued part of the St. Joseph Catholic Church properties.
A charter member of the Rayne Garden Club, Miss Petitjean was very active in state, regional and national Garden Club organizations. She also volunteered her time on the Louisiana Society for Horticultural Research, the Southwest Flower Show Judges’ Council and the Landscape Design Critics Council.
A lengthy list of plaques and other awards bestowed on her during her lifetime illustrate the extent of her volunteerism and devotion to her community.
She also established numerous scholarships, burses, chairs and/or foundations. Those donations were primarily directed to education ranging from elementary to university level and her church, also from the local level to diocesan level.
Her contributions most assuredly will continue to serve education, her faith and her community for many years to come.

CROWLEY – Lillie Lebleu Patin, 54, died Monday, July 15, 2002 in Houma. Funeral services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with date and time pending. Burial will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum under the direction of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley.

CHURCH POINT – Hubert J. “Joe” Matte, 65, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at 2:15 a.m. at Lafayette General Hospital. Jagneaux served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart.

EVANGELINE - Funeral services for Juanita Latiolais Hebert were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota.
The Rev. David Broussard officiated at the services. Interment was in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
Visitation was observed Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of services on Saturday.
Mrs. Hebert died Thursday, July 11, 2002, in Lafayette.
She is survived by her husband, James E. McFarlain died Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at 3:55 p.m. at Jennings American Legion Hospital.

McFarlain was a native and resident of Evangeline and was retired with city services. He served in World War II as a member of the U.S. Army.

EGAN - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 11 at St. Michael Chapel in Egan for Lyle Brent Regan, 29, of Egan. He died at 3 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2002 in Egan.

Regan attended Egan Elementary School and Iota High School and had worked as a service hand offshore. He enjoyed writing songs and playing guitar.

Miss Moreau died Sunday, July 7, 2002.
The daughter of Clyde L. Moreau and Anna Babette Miller Moreau, she was a native of Franklin. She graduated from Crowley High School in 1995 and attended Lafayette Technical College. She was a member of St. Jules Catholic Church Community.
Survivors include her parents; one sister, Babette Moreau of Lafayette, two brothers, George Moreau and Jaime Moreau, both of Lafayette; three aunts, Sandy Thibodeaux, Debbie Moreau and Jackie Batts; four nieces, Chloe Moreau, Sophie Moreau, Jazmin Driskil and Alanna Moreau; and numerous family members and friends who loved and cared for her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Charles and Velma Miller; and paternal grandparents, George and Doris Moreau.

Mrs. Rabel was an established author and a Garfield Heights National Honor teacher.

Mr. Thevis was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Neu Thevis; his parents, Peter Joseph and Magdalene Theunissen Thevis; seven brothers, H. Joseph, Gerard, Leonard "Shine", Martin, Daniel, Peter Joseph and William Thevis; two sisters, Marie Thevis and Gertrude T. Habetz.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Leo Holy Name Society. He was a rice farmer all his life, as were his father and seven brothers.

He was a member and trustee of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5499 of Third Degree, a member of American Legion Acadia Post 15 and lifetime member of VFW Post 6720 of Crowley.
He owned and operated Neg’s Liquor Store for the past 17 years.

Bobby Spell
LAKE CHARLES - Bobby D. Spell, 72, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in a local hospital.
He was born in Crowley, and he had lived in Lake Charles for the past 36 years.
A graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton, he was a retired employee of the state legislative auditor’s office.
Spell was honored as a member of the ASA National Softball Hall of Fame, the Louisiana Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame and the Louisiana All Sports Hall of Fame.
Survivors include one son, Kyle Spell of Ponchatoula; two sisters, Jennifer Henderson of Lake Charles and Lounetta Withrow of San Antonio; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles.
Deacon George Carr officiated the services. Burial was in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Myrth Judice
RAYNE - Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2002, at 10 a.m. in Gossen Funeral Home Chapel, for Myrth Judice, 84, who died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Survivors include four daughters, Faye Foreman and her husband Tyson, Susan Judice, Sopie Gray and her husband Larry, and Myrtis Haure and her husband Kim, all of Rayne; one brother, Herman Judice of Lumberton, Texas; two sisters, Marion Vincent of Port Neches, Texas and Mazel Ross of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Mr. Judice was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Judice; his parents, Austin and Solonge Judice; one brother Emery Judice, and one sister Lilly Lou Judice.
Visitation will be Friday, July 5, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 p.m. until service time.
A rosary will be recited Friday evening at 7 p.m.
Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home of Rayne.

RAYNE - James S. Necessary, 83, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in Crowley. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 5, at St. Joseph Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum. Gossen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CHURCH POINT - Gladys M. Savoy, 79, of Houston, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, in a traffic accident in Texas. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, in the Chapel at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point. Interment will be in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.

RAYNE – Eunice Eve Menard Boudreaux, 82, died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at the Rayne Guest Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 5, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. There will be no viewing. Burial will be in the church cemetery #2 under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

Cheryl A. Huxford
Funeral services for Cheryl A. Huxford, 44, will be at 3 p.m. Friday, July 5, at the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. Truman Stagg will officiate the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Friday.
Ms. Huxford died at 6:52 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2002, at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Huxford of Winona, Miss.; two sisters, Sharon Hampton of Fort Worth, Texas, and Carole Lea Huxford of Winona; three brothers, Bruce Huxford of Bangs, Texas, Chuck Huxford of Winona, and Jason Stayton of Texas; one daughter, Amber Davis Daigle of Crowley; two granddaughters, Paegan H. Daigle and Trendy D. Daigle; and her best friend and companion, Suzanne Davis of Egan.
She was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Funeral services for Sheldon W. Stutes, 66, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, in the Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.
Monsignor Russell Harrington will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Friday with a rosary to be prayed at 11 a.m.
Mr. Stutes died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in Webster, Texas.
He is survived by one son, Mark Stutes and his wife Debbie of Rayne; one grandson, Brandon Stutes of Rayne; and one brother, Shelvin Lee Stutes of Kaplan.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Wendy Stutes; one son, Keith Stutes; one sister, Shirley Adams; and his parents, William and Mabel Dupuis Stutes.

Hazel Roy Cassard
IOTA - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Hazel Roy Cassard, 87, who died at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2002 at LaBonne Maison Nursing Home in Crowley.
Visitation was observed Monday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Fr. David Broussard officiating.
A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Iota.
Survivors include four sons, Rodney Roy of Iota, Leonard Roy of Iota, Casper Roy of Erath and Roger Thibodeaux of Iota; three daughters, Brenda Hebert of Fenton, Lori Stewart of Baton Rouge and Sarah Clinton of Baton Rouge; one brother, James Hebert of Evangeline; four sisters, Una Rabalais of Alexandria, Lena Leger of Houma, Lou Alice LaCombe of Iota and Cam Leger of Iota; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cassard was preceded in death by her first husband, James Roy; her second husband, Henry Cassard; one son, Merlin “Bob” Roy; two grandsons, Mitch Roy and Christopher Roy; one granddaughter, Karen Milbauer; seven brothers, Hillary Hebert, Alvin “Poncho” Hebert, Milton Hebert, Johnny Hebert, Lee C. Hebert and George Hebert; and one sister, Mae Bergeron.
She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Altar Society.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 1, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Leo John Monceaux, 65, who died at American Legion Hospital at 5:21 p.m. on June 29, 2002.
Visitation was observed Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Lynda B. Monceaux of Crowley; three daughters, Ricki A. Killmer and her husband Donald R. of Pollock, April M. Whittington and her husband J. Craig of Bayou Chicot and Caroline Heidi Monceaux of Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Hoby Killmer and India Killmer of Pollock, Taylor Whittington, Payton Whittington and Paige Whittington, all of Bayou Chicot.
Monceaux is preceded in death by his parents, Dulphee and Ella Mae Prejean Monceaux, and one brother, Claude Albert “C.A.” Monceaux.
Pallbearers were Donald R. Killmer, J. Craig Whittington, Martin D. Bourgeois, Shannon Arabie, Jeffrey Monceaux and Howard Robichaux.
