JENNINGS – Larry Paul Guidry Sr., 74, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002 at his residence in Evangeline. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Crowley.

RAYNE – Yolande Duhon Guidry, 79, died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Lafayette General Medical Center. Funeral services was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial was in the new church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

Mary Helen McCoy
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Duhon Funeral Home Chapel for Mary Helen McCoy, 62, who died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at the residence of her daughter in Florida.
Burial will be in the Estherwood Cemetery with Fr. Joseph Greenwell officiating. A rosary will be said Wednesday.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 8 a.m. until the service.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Stacy of Sebring, Fla.; a son, Joseph “Joe) Salvaggio of Estherwood; two stepdaughters, Angelle Salvaggio and Michelle Mathis, both of New Orleans; a stepson, Frank Salvaggio of New Orleans; a sister, Lois Castille of Crowley; and five grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Milton Clemons; her parents, Joseph and Hilda McCoy; and one brother, Kenneth McCoy.

Walter J. Hollier
ABBEVILLE - On Dec. 27, 2002, Walter J. Hollier Sr. of Abbeville joined his beloved wife, Lou, in Paradise.
Walter and Lou will be dearly missed by many wonderful friends, family members, and all of Lou’s strays. Walter was much loved and he was certainly entertaining.
He is survived by five daughters, Mickey Hollier Walters of Houston, Yvette Hollier of Lafayette, Beverlee Hollier Adams and husband Jack of Austin, Texas, Yvonne Hollier of Houston and Andree Hollier Dunston and husband Johnny of Lafayette; three sons, Theo Hollier and wife Ruth of New Orleans, Walt Hollier and wife Denise of Texarkana and Christopher Hollier of Lafayette; one sister, Beverlee Gremillion and husband Cecil of Abbeville; 16 grandchildren, Donnie, David, Nadine, Heather, Adrienne, Luc, Christian, Jessie, Aubrey, Sam, Koury, Jordan, Julian, Adam, Rhegan and Seth; and five great grandchildren, Matthew, David, Sydney, Bailey and Isabel.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lou Delcambre Hollier, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Hollier of Abbeville.
Hollier will be remembered by local residents as owner/operator of H & G Furniture Store in Crowley, a Crowley business for many years.

CROWLEY - Willa mae Hayes Foux, 87, died at 10:02 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at Duhon Funeral Home with burial in the Methodist Cemetery.

Jerry Lee Primeaux
Funeral services for Jerry Lee Primeaux, 55, will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
The Rev. Joseph Greenwell will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m until 10 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Monday.
Mr. Primeaux died at 10:16 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at Crowley Guest Home.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Miller Primeaux of Crowley; three sons, Kenneth Primeaux, Keith Primeaux and Patrick Lee Primeaux, all of Crowley; a daughter, Janell Davy of Crowley; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Geraldine Quebodeaux of Crowley and Linda Smith of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lova and Olivia Primeaux; one brother, John Primeaux; one sister, Rita LaMaire; and two grandsons, Dustin and Justin Davy.

Edith Hoffpauir
Funeral services for Edith Hoffpauir, 82, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, in the Chapel at Duhon Funeral Home.
The Rev. Truman Stagg officiated. Burial was in the Indian Bayou Cemetery.
Visitation was from 3 until 10 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday.
Ms. Hoffpauir died at 4:40 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2002, at American Legion Hospital.
She is survived by four brothers, Rufus F. Hoffpauir, Asa A. Hoffpauir and Wilson R. Hoffpauir, all of Crowley, and Albert J. Hoffpauir of Deland, Fla.; and one nephew, Hazen H. Hoffpauir of New Orleans.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert N. Hoffpauir; her parents, Rufus and Francis Hoffpauir; and three sisters, Eunice Faulk, Irene Hoffpauir and Beulah Sims.

Dorris Jonathan
Handy Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at St. Theresa Catholic Church for Dorris Jonathan Handy Jr., 61, who died at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Crowley American Legion Hospital.
Burial will be in the West Crowley Cemetery with Fr. Richard Sadlier officiating.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday morning prior to the funeral service. A rosary will be said at 9 a.m. Monday.
He is survived by his spouse, Sherrie Wilkins Handy of Crowley; three daughters, Luwana K. Handy of Lafayette, Angilique Handy Falcon and husband Gregg of Baton Rouge and Dori S. Handy of Lafayette; one son, Patrick F. Handy and wife Tammie of Houston; a brother, Wilson Joseph of Antioch, Tenn.; two sisters, Ada Lou Stevens of Crowley and Jonnetta Augustus and husband Timmy of Crowley; four grandchildren, Victoria Handy, Gregory Falcon II, Gabrielle Falcon and Garrett Falcon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dalton and Alma Stevens; a brother, Henry Handy; and a grandchild, Anjolie K. Henry.
Handy was a graduate of Ross High School and was a SP4 in the United States Army. He returned to graduate from Southern University and USL; afterwhich, he taught at Ross High School, Church Point High School and retired from Crowley Junior High - Alternative School.He served the City of Crowley as a City Councilman for one term and also worked as a carrier for the Crowley Post-Signal until his illness forced his retirement.

Leola Green
Poulard

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at Progressive Baptist Church for Mrs. Leola Green Poulard, 89, who died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Rev. Lloyd Joiner Jr. will officiate at the services. Immediately following the service, interment will be in the West Crowley Cemetery.
A native of Crowley, she always loved learning and was continually pursuing educational goals, even after her children had received their professional degrees. At age 54, she began pursuing her life log dream, a college education, while gracefully maintaining her responsibilities as a housewife, church leader, civic volunteer and participating in the nurturing of her grandchildren.
At age 64, she received her B.A. degree from the University of Southern Louisiana, began graduate study and embarked upon a distinguished teaching career in early childhood education in the public schools of Crowley. She maintained memberships in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, the Seventh District Baptist Association, the American Association of University Women, and the Excelsior Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwen Harris of Lafayette; two sons, Grady Poulard Jr. and Othello Poulard, both of Washington, D.C.; son-in-law, Joseph Harris of Lafayette; two sisters, Hazel Phipps of Philadelphia and Beatrice Johnson of Memphis, Tenn.; brother, Arthur Green of Crowley; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Mae Dorsey of Lafayette and Eva Poulard of Crowley; 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Grady Poulard Sr.; daughter, Betty Poulard, and parents, Walter and Cora Green.
Visitation will be held Saturday at Progressive Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m.

RAYNE - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Mrs. Trudy T. Hodge, 47, of Crowley, who died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Lafayette.
Burial will be in the new church cemetery with Fr. Bill Ruskoski officiating.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday evening in the funeral home chapel.
Visitation will be observed on Friday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and again on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
Survivors include her husband, Andy Hodge of Crowley; two sons, Andy Jr. and Wilfred Hodge of Crowley; four daughters, Nicholl, Tiffany, Chelsea and Sierra Hodge of Crowley; her mother, Lucille Trahan of Rayne; a brother, John Dale Trahan of Duson; four grandchildren, Damien and Derek Peters and David and Daniel Lacombe Jr.
She is preceded in death by her father, Wilfred Trahan.

Flossie Perry Cooper
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Flossie Perry Cooper, 68, who died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Rev. Jimmy Broussard will officiate for the services.
Visitation may be observed from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday and from 8 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
Burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, James G. Cooper of Crowley; three daughters, Kathy C. Brown of Owensboro, Ky., Michelle M. Cooper of Lafayette and Janice C. Cooper of Crowley; two sons, Patrick A. Cooper of Prairieville and James G.A. Cooper of Crowley; two sisters, Callie Pizzolatto and Sis Abshire, both of Crowley; two grandchildren, Kelli Brown and Teri Brown, both of Lafayette; and one great grandchild, Blake Benoit of Lafayette.
Mrs. Cooper is preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Margaret Baker Perry; three brothers, A.B. Perry, Leon Perry and Willie Perry Sr.; and one sister, Jenny Brocato.
Mrs. Flossie served as a nurse for the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

CHURCH POINT – Jack Clavier, 91, will be laid to rest on Friday, Dec. 27, 2002 during a funeral service at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home, Inc.

CHURCH POINT – Foch Daugereaux, 84, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church mausoleum under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home, Inc.

C.J. Hundley
MOWATA - Funeral services for C.J. Hundley, 80, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Mr. Hundley died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at a Crowley nursing home. Interment will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery Mausoleum.
Mr. Hundley was a retired rice farmer, having farmed in the Mowata Community the majority of his adult life.
He served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member and lifetime trustee of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and a member of the Parish Council, the Holy Name Society and the Perpetual Adoration Society.
He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus council in Eunice.
Mr. Hundley coached Little League baseball for many years and was the first Little League coach of Mowata baseball.
He is survived by two daughters, Debra “Bedo” H. Stafford and her husband Fred of Lafayette, and Rosemary H. Minch and her husband Randy of Moline, Ill.; five sons, William Kelly Hundley II, Nicholas William Hundley Sr. and his wife Clara, James Patrick Hundley Sr. and his wife Cathy, Michael Charles Hundley Sr. and his wife Katherine, all of Mowata, and Douglas Joseph Hundley and his wife Kathy of Lafayette; 30 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Hensgens Hundley.
Pallbearers will be his six grandsons, Nicholas Hundley Jr., Kelly “Trey” Hundley III, Stephen Hundley, Michael Charles Hundley Jr., John Douglas Hundley and Erik Hundley.
Visitation will be observed from 4 until 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 until 10:30 a.m. Friday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.

RAYNE - Harold James Rogers Sr., 77, died at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne.

CHURCH POINT – Joseph Lawrence Doucet, 72, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Lafayette. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church Point.

Abbie J. Baronet
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at St. Michael Catholic Church with Msgr. Charles Dubois officiating for Abbie J. Baronet, 90, of Crowley, who died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 at The Landmark in Crowley.
In 1933, Baronet was employed by Brown & Cassidy as a warehouseman. Following that, he worked as a rice grader at the federal rice grading office in Crowley. In 1945 he was hired by Joe Doré Sr. and worked as a rice buyer for Supreme Rice Mill until his retirement in December of 1990.
In the 1950’s he was associated with the minor league team, The Crowley Millers. He worked as the team manager, paymaster and operated the concessions.
He donated more than 30 years of service to the Crowley Recreation Department and worked as a coach and umpire. He worked with three generations of young athletes in Acadia Parish in the American Legion Baseball Program.
He was named the Grand Marshal of the International Rice Festival of Crowley and was a member of the Cattleman’s Association.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna Baronet Breaux and her husband Donald of Lafayette and Suzanne Baronet Landry and her husband John of Baton Rouge; two sons, William “Bill” Baronet and his wife Carol Sue of Crowley and James “Jim” Baronet of Bryan, Texas; two brothers, Percy Baronet of Mississippi and Joe Baronet of Crowley; three sisters, Agnes Breaux and Aglise Kober of Crowley and Nedia Boudreaux of Ebenezer; 11 grandchildren, Dana Durman, Leslie Hanks, Nicole Pellerin, Chris Breaux, Jamie Baronet, Jim Baronet Jr., Amanda Landry Alexander, Joshua Landry, Eric Landry, Abbie Paige Baronet and Joshua Parnell; nine great grandchildren, Hailey and Heidey Hanks, Patrick and Brandon Durman, Peyton Pellerin, James Davis, Alice Davis, Julia Louise Baronet and Lauren Baronet; and two step-great grandchildren, Allison Rae and Steven Clouse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jules and Therese Plaisance Baronet; his wife, Louise Doiron Baronet; a sister, Verdie Laurents; and two brothers, Wilbur and Walter Baronet.
Visitation will be observed from 2:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service on Monday.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
A rosary will be recited by Fr. Keith Derouen in the funeral home at 6 p.m. Sunday evening.
Pallbearers will be Jim Baronet Jr., Chris Baronet, Josh Landry, Eric Landry, Chad Hanks and Bria Durman.

Charity Nickson Guidry
RAYNE - Funeral services for Charity Nickson Guidry, 88, of Rayne will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Starlight Baptist Church.
The wake service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 in the church.
She was born March 4, 1914, and was a lifelong resident of Rayne. She was a faithful member of Starlight Baptist Church in Rayne until she became a resident of Christian Villa Nursing Home in Crowley. She died on Dec. 14, 2002, at 2:25 a.m.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Mary Etta S. Coleman of Rayne; three grandchildren, Tony D. Senegal of Texas City, Texas, Kenneth J. Senegal of Galveston, Texas and Romy D. Colemen of Rayne; three brothers, George Nickson of Rayne and Elwood and Elton Nickson, both of Beaumont, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Nickson and Nola Nickson, both of Rayne; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Church for Carl “Bish” Murphy Jr., 65, who died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 in Lafayette.
Rev. Leldon Richard will officiate for the funeral service and the burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. Saturday morning until the time of the service.
Survivors include his wife, Frida Murphy of Branch; his mother, Emma Smith Murphy of Crowley; four sons, Wendell R. Murphy and his wife Donna of Crowley, Randall J. Murphy and his wife Yvonne of Jennings, Dan L. Murphy and his wife Vanessa of Crowley and Joshua Wayne Murphy of Jennings; one daughter, Mona Gail Ledford and her husband David of Fort Worth, Texas; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Callais of Cutoff; two stepsons, Dwayne and Darrell Bergeron of Golden Medow; 17 grandchildren; one brother, Donald Murphy of Lake Arthur; and two sisters, Burnell LeJeune of Orange, Texas and Janet Signorelli of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Murphy Sr.; one daughter, Carla Gene Murphy; three brothers, Archey Lane Murphy, John H. Murphy and Winston Murphy; and one sisters, Icy Murphy.

Roxane ‘Roxie’

IOTA - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Roxane “Roxie” Stanford, 35, who died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at her residence.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with the Rev. David Broussard officiating.
Visitation was observed from 1:30 p.m. Thursday until the time of the funeral Friday afternoon.
A rosary was recited Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
She is survived by her parents, Mona and Isaac Cormier of Iota and Perry and Deanie Stanford of Eunice; a son, Braylon Miller of Iota; three brothers, Perry Stanford II of Iota and Josh and Jake Stanford, both of Eunice; two sisters, Amy Stanford of Iota and Angel Stanford of Eunice; her maternal grandmother, Hazel Frugé of Iota, and paternal grandmother, Hermelia Clement of Eunice.
Roxie was a valued employee of the Crowley Post-Signal where she was worked as a graphic designer.

Rayne - Telecia H. Touchet, 86, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at her residence. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at Gossen Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Assumption Cemetery in Mire under the direction of Gossen Funeral Home Inc. of Rayne.

CANKTON – Ivory T. Colligan, 77, of Church Point died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 at Doctors Hospital in Opelousas. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at St. John Berchman Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point.

Herring

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at St. Michael Catholic Church for Jeffrey P. Herring, 27, who died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at his residence.
Herring was the son of Brian M. Herring and the former Deborah Richard. He was a native of Crowley.
Survivors include his father, Brian Herring and wife Kathy of Lafayette; his mother, Debbie Herring of Houston; one sister, Jennifer Herring of Lafayette; two nephews, Blake and Jay Herring; and one niece, Mackenzie Herring; his maternal grandparents, Claude and Mildred Richard of Crowley; and his paternal grandmother, Joycelyn Herring of Pearland, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Earl B. Herring; maternal great grandparents, Isadore and Lovenia Aubé; and paternal great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Chapman.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 at St. Michael Catholic Church for Wesley Johnson, 73, who died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 in Crowley.
Fr. Gary Schexnider will officiate for the Mass of Christian Burial and will pray the rosary at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Bertrand Johnson of Crowley; three sons, Charles W. Johnson and his wife Jene of Crowley, Mike Johnson and his wife Pat of Lafayette and Jeff Johnson of Abbeville; one daughter, Jenny Kelehan and her husband Kevin of Broussard; eight grandchildren, James Johnson, Rachel and Annette Seaux, Crystal, Nicole and Aaron Johnson, and Ashley and Travis Kelehan; and five great grandchildren, Joshua and Joseph Seaux, Mary and Bethany Johnson and Aubri Arabie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Auguste and Marceline Johnson; six sisters, five brothers and one son, Francis Johnson.
Johnson was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and worked for Acadia Lumber for 50-plus years.

RICHARD – Mrs. Hilbert Boudreaux, 66, (nee) Rita Arabie, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 at her residence in Church Point. Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Dec. 17 at St. Edward Catholic Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Guidry Funeral Home of Church.

CROWLEY – Josie Sauce Kufel, 42, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002 at American Legion Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Abshire Cemetery under the direction of Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley.

JENNINGS – Shelby Lee “Tommy” Thibodeaux, 60, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002 at his residence in Gotts Cove. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel. RICHARD - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church for William “Bill” Prather, 84, of Branch, who died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002 at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Rev. Perry Sanders will officiate the services. Interment will be in Elizabeth Memorial Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the services at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
Prather is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mae M. Prather of Branch; two sons, Billy Prather and his wife Allie of Crowley, and their children, Alisha Prather of Alexandria, Will Prather of Lafayette and Garrett Prather attending LSU in Baton Rouge, and Randy Prather and his wife Elaine, and their children, Erin Stanley of Tuscon, Ariz., Greer Prather attending Loyola University in New Orleans, Clay Prather attending LSU in Baton Rouge and Kyle Prather of Lafayette; one daughter who preceded him in death, Cherry P. York, who is survived by her husband, Al York of Conroe, Texas, and a son, Scott York of Dallas. He is also survived by two brothers, Floyd Prather of Waco, Texas and Carey Prather of Leland, Miss.
He is preceded by his parents, William and Corinne Williams Prather.
Pallbearers will be his six grandsons, Will, Garrett, Greer, Clay and Kyle Prather and Scott York.
Prather was a farmer for 50 years upon receiving his education from Baylor University. He was the “Farmer of the Year” at the International Rice Festival in Crowley in 1960 and was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church serving as a deacon for 50 years and a choir director for 40 years. His step-father, Rev. J.H. Strother inspired his loved of mission work as Prather served on the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for 1977 to 1988. He served as president of the Board of Trustees for Acadia Baptist Academy, which subsequently became Acadian Baptist Center. He also served on the Board of Directors for First National Bank of Crowley, which is now First Bank, from 1951 to 2001, and was a board member for First National Farms and Louisiana Irrigation and Milling Co.

Mrs. Schexneider died at 3:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
A native and resident of Midland, she lived in Morse for two years and loved to play cards, pokeno, bingo and read.
Visitation will be observed beginning at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the service on Wednesday.

She was a native and resident of Evangeline. She was an Avon representative and a clerk at Chief Grocery and Doucet Grocery. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Mr. Bertrand died at 12:53 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at his residence.
A native of Pine Island and resident of Evangeline for 31 years after moving there from Crowley, Mr. Bertrand was a retired oilfield worker. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Evangeline.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Savoy Bertrand of Evangeline; one daughter, Kathy Simar of Egan; one son, A.D. LAFAYETTE - Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Dorothy Faye Thibodeaux Thibodeaux, 78, who died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Lafayette General Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Musical selections will include “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagle’s Wings.”
Ms. Thibodeaux, the daughter of the late Deluke A. Thibodeaux Sr. and the former Ida Brousssard, was born and raised in Morse. She graduated valedictorian from Morse High School.
She was a substitute teacher at St. Michael’s Elementary School and was a devoted mother, grandmother and loved to baby-sit children.
She spent the last 25 years of her life in Lafayette. She donated her body to LSU Medical Center at Shreveport to help find a cure for rheumatoid arthritis.
Survivors include two daughters, Doris T. Suir of Lafayette and Marjorie T. Mensman and husband David of Arnaudville; one son, Jim Thibodeaux and wife Shelia of Carencro; three sisters, Wilda Guidry of Crowley, Marjorie Conner of Lake Charles and Irene Prejean of Sulphur; one brother, James “Buddy” Thibodeaux of Morse; eight grandchildren, Laura S. Horn, Michelle S. Rue, Glenn Michael Suir, Rachel T. Dupuis, Brock Thibodeaux, Laurie M. Crawford, Melanie M. Doucet and Christopher Mensman; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Deluke A. Thibodeaux Sr.; her mother, Ida Broussard Thibodeaux; four brothers, Dalton Thibodeaux, John Thibodeaux, Deluke Thibodeaux Jr. and Robert S. Thibodeaux; one sister, Theola T. Hanks; grandson, David “Jerry” Mensman; three nephews, Loren Thibodeaux, Edward Clark Stamm and Tommy Thibodeaux; one son-in-law, Glenn Ray Suir; one brother-in-law, John R. Guidry, and an infant granddaughter, Alicia Suir.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Frisco City, Ala. with Rev. Ron Lee and Rev. Andy Gartman officiating.
Nettles was born and raised in Monroe County and graduate from Frisco City High School and Alabama Southern Community College. He was a member of the Frisco City United Methodist Church and served in the United States Army from July of 1983 to January of 1988. He moved to Bartlett, Tenn in May of 1998 where he worked as a computer SAP basis for Thomas and Betts.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Gautreaux Nettles of Bartlett, Tenn., formerly of Crowley; a son, Daniel Murphy Nettles of Bartlett, Tenn.; his parents, Viola and Tommy Nettles of Frisco City, Ala.; a brother, Christopher Scot Nettles of Mexia, Ala.; and two sisters, Toria Nettles McKinley of Frisco City, Ala. and Nicole Nettles Boatwright of Pine Orchard, Ala.

Survivors include his wife, Johnette Byler Daigle of Crowley, one daughter, Darla Daigle of Broussard, two sons, Dayne Daigle of Las Vegas, Nevada and Duke Daigle of Lafayette; his parents, Bert and Ruth Daigle of Scott, two sisters, Susan Strother and her husband David of Lafayette and Sandra Burton and her husband Wayne of Scott; two brothers, Mike Daigle and his wife Susan of St. Louis, Missouri and Steven Daigle of Scott; 12 nieces and nephews.
One of five children born to Bert and Ruth Daigle in Iota, “Coach Daigle” as he was referred to attended and graduated from St. Francis High School and attained a degree in education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette and later a Master’s degree from McNeese State University in Lake Charles.
Daigle first taught at Westlake High School and then moved back to Acadia Parish where he taught and coached at Notre Dame High School. Daigle later served as principal at Our Lady Immaculate Conception in Jennings.
After retiring from the parochial school system, he joined the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office as a D.A.R.E. officer for the young people of the parish. He retired from that position a few years ago.
“Coach Daigle” was honored recently during pre-game ceremonies of a UL-Lafayette Ragin Cajun baseball game where he and members of Notre Dame’s only championship baseball team were honored. UL-Lafayette’s head coach, Tony Robichaux tutored under Daigle while at Notre Dame.In the pre-game festivities, Daigle was commended not only on his coaching abilities, but on the life lessons he taught his players on and off the field.
The family would like to thank Lafayette General Oncology Unit, Dr. Eugene Brierre and his staff along with the many supportive and caring friends in Acadiana.
“Double D” was a respected teacher, role model and will always remain “Coach Daigle.”

BRANCH – Oday “Thib” Thibodeaux, 69, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2002 at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Acadiana in Youngsville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Edmund Catholic Church in Branch. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point.

Wanda ‘Totsie’ Thibodeaux Navarre
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Crowley for Wanda “Totsie” Thibodeaux Navarre, 63, who died at 7:10 a.m. on Dec. 1, 2002 at her residence in Crowley.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder will officiate for the services. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m.
Visitation was observed Monday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Clyde Navarre Jr. of Crowley; one son, Barry Navarre and hie wife Diane of Rayne; three daughters, Heidi Istre and her husband E.P. of Crowley, Tara Pellerin and her husband Patrick of Rayne and Tina Navarre of Crowley; three grandchildren, Lucas Navarre of Rayne, Alex Pellerin of Rayne and Katie Istre of Crowley.
Mrs. Navarre is preceded in death by her parents, Matthew Thibodeaux and Marie S. LeJeune; one brother, Donald Thibodeaux, and one sister, Betty T. Trahan.
Mrs. Totsie retired in 1997 from Rice City Warehousing, Inc. after 23 years of employment where she served as a bookkeeper and president. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Cora Mae Smith
ORANGE, TEXAS - Cora Mae Smith, 82, of Orange, Texas, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Orange Hospital.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Orange, with its pastor, Rev. Don Sheffield officiating.
Graveside services will take place locally at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Ebenezer Cemetery.
Visitation began at 4 p.m. Monday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Born in Crowley, Mrs. Smith lived in Orange since 1965. She was a homemaker and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Smith, and her daughter, Linda Smith.
She is survived by her son, Charles “Chuck” Smith of Orange, Texas; her daughter, Wanda LeBlanc of Leesville; her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jay Sargent of Hudson, Texas; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Jay Sargent, Mike Spell, Brad LeBlanc, Chuck LeBlanc, Mike LeBlanc and Troy Sargent.

GRAND COTEAU – Miguel Alvarez, 27, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 at 6:30 a.m. at his home in Sunset. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 3:15 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Sunset under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home of Church Point.

BRANCH – Joseph Paul Senegal, 63, of Rayne, died at American Legion Hospital in Crowley on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Branch. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home of Crowley.
