Mary Venable, 79, of Egan, died at 11:33 p.m. Saturday,
Dec. 29, 2001. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31 in the
Duhon Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Centerville Presbyterian Cemetery.
Joseph Emery Blanc Venable, 69, died Saturday,
Dec. 29, 2001 at his camp in Baton Rouge. Funeral services were at 2
p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, at St. Edmond Chapel in Branch. Burial was in
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Church Point. Duhon Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
Ben Hanks
Funeral services for Ben Hanks, 86, of Crowley, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday,
Jan. 1, at Northside Assembly of God.
Visitation was from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. until
the time of services Tuesday. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Hanks died at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Our Lady of
Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Survivors include his wife, Lethie Hanks of Crowley; three sons, Pete
Hanks of Nederland, Texas, James Hanks of Orange, Texas, and Dwayne
Hanks of Crowley; two daughters, Barney Quibodeaux and Loraine Franke,
both of Crowley; 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, George Hanks; his parents, John and
Mary Hanks; two brothers, Antoine and Elzie Hanks; and two sisters,
Eva Foreman and Elizabeth Perry.

Betty Lee Andrus Fortson Graveside services for Betty
Lee Andrus Fortson, 70, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Woodlawn
Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Hollis officiated for the services. Mrs. Fortson
died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at her residence in Crowley.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. T.E. Fortson of Crowley; two sons,
Terry Osborne of Crowley and Rick Osborne of Bryan, Texas; four grandchildren,
Christopher Osborne of Crowley, Emily and Leanne Osborne and Shelby
Ferguson, all of Bryan; two stepdaughters, Becky Lawhun and Virginia
Matt, both of Jennings; one stepson, T.E. Fortson Jr., of Daytona Beach,
Fla.; seven step-grandchildren, Nick Dilly, Laura Touchet, Trent Matte,
Jonathan Lawhun, W. Thomas Lawhun, Maureen Marie Fortson and Thomas

CROWLEY Wallace Lee Joseph, 95, died Thursday,
Dec. 27, 2001 at the Crowley Guest House nursing facility in Crowley.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at
St. Theresa Catholic Church in Crowley. Burial is in the South Crowley
Cemetery under the direction of Owens-Thomas Funeral Home of Crowley.

at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2001 at the Acadia-St. Landry Hospital
in Church Point. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January

Horace LeJeune, 83, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, January
1, 2002 at his residence. Funeral services were pending at press time

RAYNE Adam Broussard, 83, died at 11:30 a.m. Monday,
December 31, 2001 in Rayne. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.

Dixon Stevens
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 3, 2002, at 1 p.m. at
Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church for Harriet Dixon Stevens, 87,
who died at 3:38 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2001 at the Crowley American
Legion Hospital.
Rev. Donald Burnette, Sr., pastor of Morning Star Missionary Baptist
Church, will officiate for the services. The visitation will be observed
Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of services.
Burial will be in the West Crowley Cemetery. Survivors include numerous
nieces and nephews from throughout the area.
Mrs. Stevens was a radio evangelist on KSIG for many years. She also
was a Licensed Practical Nurse for both the Crowley American Legion
Hospital and the former Lafayette Charity Hospital for many years. She
was the owner of Stevens Vault and Concrete Company for many years.
She was born in Midland, La. and had lived in Crowley most of her life.

a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at the American Legion Hospital in Crowley.

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2002 at a
2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church
in Scott for Curley John Menard, 70, who died at noon on Tuesday, Jan.
1, at the Medical Center of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette.
Entombment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery Mausoleum.
The Rev. Gilbert Dutel, pastor, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church,
will be the celebrant of the funeral mass and will conduct the services.
Valerie Andrus, organist, will sing for the services, Precious
Lord, Take My Hand, Amazing Grace, Here I Am,
Lord and On Eagles Wings.
Survivors include his wife, Feda Lantier Menard of Scott; one daughter,
Sharon Ann Moon and her husband, Ted of Scott; one son, Donald James
Menard and his wife, Peggy Sue of Crowley; five grandchildren, Chelsea
and Amanda of Crowley and Hailey, Alison and Marisa of Scott; one step-grandson,
Joseph Gauthreaux and his wife, Amy of Crowley; one step-great-granddaughter,
Alyssa Fontenot of Crowley; two sisters, Bernice Menard Collins and
Jerald Dean Menard Dunand of Lafayette; and one brother, John Menard
of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, Willis Fatty,
Overton Pye, Roberly Bris, Ernest Pete,
Henry, Lee and Bienvenu Bob Menard; and two sisters, Lucille
Menard Ducharme and Verna Mae Menard.
A notice of Lafayette and a resident of Scott for 47 years, Mr. Menard
was the son of the late Duma Menard and the former Marie Landry, both
natives of Lafayette.
He was a veteran of military service having served in the Unites States
Army.
Prior to his retirement in 1993, Mr. Menard worked for the Clerk of
Courts of Lafayette and had previously retired from McMaths Sales
Co. with 30 years of service.
He was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Community in Scott
and the Holy Name Society.
The family would like to thank the second, third, fifth and sixth floor
staff of Southwest Medical Center and the staff of Health South Rehabilitation
Hospital, Dr. Fredrico Del Toro, Dr. Dwayne Brown and the staff of Cardiovascular
Institute of the South.
A rosary will be prayed Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Martin Castille Funeral
Home in Scott.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11 a.m. until
9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Friday.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Lloyd Touchet, Pearly Bourque, Ted Moon,

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile and Alice LeJeune; one
son, Horace LeJeune Jr.; one brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and
Beatrice LeJeune.

Dale Cormier, Craig Hoffpauir, Steven Jones and Jonathon Dale Sarver.
LeJeune served in the United States Army from 1940-44 where he served
honorably in WWII and received the Purple Heart.
He was also a member of American Legion Post 15 in Crowley and a parishioner
of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley.

82, who died at noon on Thursday, Jan. 3, at American Legion Hospital
in Crowley.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with Fr. James Nguyen officiating.
A rosary will be recited Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and again on
Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of the services.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Sensat Prevost of Crowley; two
stepsons, Ronald H. Bossley of Abbeville and Leonard Wayne Bossley of
Johnstown, Colo.; two sisters, Mae Sparks of Houston and Sue Bergeron
of Crowley; eight grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada and Joseph Prevost; and
two brothers, Wilfred and Clyde Prevost.
Mr. Prevost was a member of St. Michaels Archangel Catholic Church.
He served his country during World War II as a member of the United
States Army.

George Guinn, Sr.
JENNINGS - Funeral services for Loyd George Guinn Sr., 78, of Jennings
are scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 at Our Lady Help of Christians
Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Pelous and Msgr. James Gaddy officiating.
A vigil service will be said Monday at 7 p.m. by Msgr. James Gaddy followed
by a rosary at 7:30 p.m. by Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat Group.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with full military rites.
Mr. Guinn died Thursday, Jan. 5, at 12:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes
Hospital in Lafayette.
He was a native of Hornbeck and a resident of Jennings. Self employed,
he ran a dragline service and was a former member of the Knights of
Columbus, Council No. 2012. He served in the U.S. Navy during World
War II and was stationed in the South Pacific in Guam.
Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Tuesday from
8 a.m. until the time of the service.
Survivors include his wife, Marcelette L. Guinn of Jennings, six sons
and daughters-in-law, Loyd Jr. and Sandra Guinn of Jefferson, Texas,
Andrew Lee and Belinda Guinn of Jennings, Thomas Peter and Pam Guinn
of Jennings, John Eddie and Rosalie Guinn of Jennings, James Paul and

Chapel for Wava Stakes Hornsby, 90, who died Sunday, Jan. 6, at Crowley
American Legion Hospital.
Burial will be in Maxie Cemetery with Rev. Nathan Avant presiding.
Visitation was Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until
the time of the service.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Joann Hornsby of Patos, Brazil
and three grandchildren, Robyn Meche of Birmingham, Ala., Lucius Aaron
Hornsby III of Laf-ayette and Heather Hornsby of Madrid, Spain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucius Aaron Hornsby Sr.;
one son, Lucius Aaron Hornsby Jr.; her parents, John and Virginia Stakes;
four brothers, Willie, Truman, Glen and Lee Stakes; four sisters, Espy
Taylor, Irene Anderson, Lettie Anderson and Erma Anderson.
Mrs. Hornsby was a life-long member of the Maxie Methodist Church where
she taught Sunday school, Bible school, and helped with MFY, as did
her husband and son.
She graduated from Crowley High School and USL and taught for 35 years
in Acadia Parish. After her retirement, she moved to Lafayette to be
near her sons family. After 20 years there, she returned to Crowley
upon her sons death.

Clarence John "C. J." Duhon
Funeral services will be held at 1PM Wednesday January 9, 2002 in Duson
at St. Theresa Church for Clarence John "C. J." Duhon, 63,
who died Monday January 7, 2002 in Lafayette. Burial will be in St.
Theresa Mausoleum.
Survivors are his wife Rose Marie Kidder Duhon, a son Dale Duhon and
his wife Faye, Duson, 3 daughters Melanie Vincent and her husband Richard
of Lafayette, Amelia Duhon and Camille Kidder and her husband Robert
all of Duson, 1 sister Mary Ann Touchet, Rayne and 7 grandchildren,
Coy, Coby and Abby Duhon, Haley Stelly, Taylor Vincent, Tori and Kylee
Kidder.
Mr. Duhon was a farmer and a retired school bus driver for Lafayette
parish.
Visitation will be Tuesday 10:30AM till 10PM and Wednesday 8AM till
services at 1PM. The rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7PM.
Pallbearers are Dale, Coy and Coby Duhon, Sam Vincent, Robert Kidder
and Matthew Kidder. Honorary pallbearers are Taylor Vincent and John

2002 in New Orleans. Funeral services will be held at 11:15 a.m. on

Alice B. Womack
Alice Black Womack died Jan. 9, 2002, from complications of open-heart
surgery at Longview Regional Medical Center in Longview, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lantz Womack,
her parents, A.M. and Mildred Black, her brothers, Fred Black, Mitchell
Black, Roswell H. "Stubby" Black, David E. Black, Sr., and
her sister, Ruth Black Robinson.
Mrs. Womack was born in Union County, Illinois, on April 14, 1917, and
she was reared in Delhi. She married Lantz Womack in 1935 and resided
in Franklin Parish until his death. She was a member of the First Baptist
Church in Winnsboro. She also was a member of the Newcomers Club
in Monroe and lately of the Greater Longview Newcomers Club in
Longview.
She was active for 24 years in a volunteer service group of legislative
wives during Representative Womacks tenure in the Louisiana State
Legislature. Mrs. Womack was well known as a wonderful hostess and cook
as she entertained friends and family and constituents of her husband.
Mrs. Womack is survived by her daughter, Freida Louise Womack of Longview,
special nieces, Jeanette Black Allbritton and husband David of Longview,
and Jo Alice Black Jones and husband Glenn of Winnsboro, sisters, Freida
Serio and husband Frank and Martha L. Charrier of Monroe, in addition
to several other nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held at the residence of Glenn and Jo Alice
Jones at 2136 Highway 865 (Robinson Road) in Winnsboro on Saturday,
Jan. 12, at 3 p.m.

COVINGTON - Sophie Killmer Hukill, 88, died on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002
at 4:50 a.m. at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington.
Mrs. Hukill was a native of Crowley and a resident of Mandeville for
the past eight years.
She was a homemaker and a retired accountant.
Mrs. Hukill was the beloved mother of Natalie H. Rosen and Edmund L.
Hukill III, both of Mandeville, and grandmother of Cherry A. Thompson
and Parris A. Breaux, both of Lafayette and Edmund Lee Dax Hukill of
Lafayette.
She is also survived by her devoted sisters, Minnie K. Shamblin and
Margaret K. Young, both of Crowley, and her loving daughter-in-law,

Bennett Miller of Crowley, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002 at 11:15 p.m.
She was 22 years of age and a native of Crowley.

Cramer, 82, who died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Our Lady of Lourdes
Hospital in Lafayette.
She is survived by two sons Lawrence and his wife Mary Reiners Cramer,
and Louis and his wife Kay Carlson Cramer all of Roberts Cove. Maw Maw
is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren all
of whom live in South Louisiana.
Mrs. Cramer was a lifelong member of St. Leo Altar Society and served
as president. She was also a member of the Acadia Parish Homemakers
and Court St. Leo, Catholic Daughters of America.
Her life revolved around her church, family, and friends.
Mrs. Cramer was preceded in death by her husband Herman Cramer; her
parents Lawrence and Augusta Zaunbrecher Leonards.
Visitation was Wednesday from 2:30 until 10:00 p.m. and Thursday from
8 a.m. until services. A Parish Rosary was prayed Wednesday at 7 p.m.
and the Ladies Altar Society will recite a rosary Thursday at 9 a.m.
Burial will be in the St. Leo Cemetery under the direction of Gossen
Funeral Home of Rayne.
KINDER Funeral services for Kristina Goebel, 18,
will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002 at 2 p.m. in First United Pentecostal

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson
Funeral Home Chapel for Wilfred Joseph Simon, 83, who died Monday, Jan.
21, at 6:45 p.m. at Crowley Guest House.
Fr. Joseph Greenwell will officiate for the services. Visitation was
observed Wednesday from 2:30 to 9 p.m. ad Thursday from 8 a.m. until
service time. A rosary was recited at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Lyons Point.
Survivors include his wife, Neumae LeBeouf Simon of Crowley; one daughter,
Vickie L. Kibodeaux of Crowley; one son, Neal LeBeouf of Crowley; three
sisters, Alicia Touchet, Lorena Primeaux and Velta Simon, all of Lyons
Point; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, St. Cyr and Edith Simon; two
sisters, Bernice Primeaux and Beatrice Schexnayder; three brothers,
Eldes, Alzie and Ferdie Simon.
Pallbearers are Troy, Shannon and Corey Kibodeaux, Chris LeBeouf, Patrick
and Randy Primeaux.
Mr. Simon was a veteran of World War II as a member of the U.S. Army.

MORSE - Services for Walter Sonnier, 91, of Morse are scheduled for
Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at noon at Immaculate Conception Church in Morse
with Rev. Don Pousson officiating.
A rosary will be said Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Hanks
Cemetery.
Mr. Sonnier died at 4:47 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Crowley American
Legion Hospital.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday
from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lynn Sonnier of Morse; four grandchildren,
Ed Thibodeaux, Paula Mire, Freta Willis and Amanda Heard, and four great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Grace Sonnier; a daughter, Wilda
Mae Thibodeaux; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sonnier; one sister,
Matilda Hanks; six brothers, Dominque Sonnier, Alfred Sonnier, Elenor
Sonnier, Horace Sonnier, Eugene Sonnier and William Sonnier.
Mr. Simon was a native and resident of Morse. He was a retired mechanic
at Acadia Battery Station.

IOTA - Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. in
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Karen Roy Mihlbauer, 35, who
died at 2:17 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002.
Burial will be in the church cemetery with Fr. David Broussard officiating.
A rosary was said Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Visitation was held Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. until the time of service
on Thursday.

1 p.m. in Melancon Funeral Home here for Mrs. Walter Charles, 74, the
former Agnes Zeno, who died Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 12:30 p.m. at American
Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Interment will be in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery in Lafayette.

will officiate at the services.
Mrs. Charles was a native of Carencro and a resident of Branch for over
30 years. She had been a parishioner of Good Shepherd Deliverance Rival
Center in Branch and was a mother of the church, having tended to the
sick.
Survivors include three sons, Clinton Joseph Charles and his wife Mary
of Mire, Walter Ray Charles and his wife Denise of Lafayette and Paul
Junior Charles of Branch; nine daughters, Mary Lois Chevis of Spring,
Texas, Joycelyn Charles of Crowley, Sarah Ann Chevis of Houston, Sylvia
Marie Broussard and her husband Joseph of Peoria, IL, Theresa Ann Charles
of Lafayette, Martha Guidry and her husband Roy of Church Point, Dora
Mayne and her husband Jonas of Lake Charles, Lillian Citizen and her
husband Merlin of Lafayette and Marilyn Elizabeth Charles of Carencro;
45 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren;
one brother, Wallace Zeno and his wife Anna Belle of Carencro; her step-mother,
Elda Johnson Zeno; one sister, Bernice Cormier and her husband Wilson
of Sunset and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Charles; a daughter,
Nelsie Carmouche; her parents, Paul Zeno and the former Lucy Lyn Sampy;
two brothers, Nelson Zeno and Allen Zeno and one sister, Mary Lyn Williams.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8:30 a.m. Saturday
until service time on Saturday.

Guidry, 79, who died at 1:10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at his residence
in Crowley.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Officiating for the services will
be Fr. David Broussard assisted by Fr. Louis Richard and Deacon Rodless
Leleux. A rosary will be said Friday evening at 7 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Wilda Lou Thibodeaux Guidry
of Crowley; one son, William M. Guidry and his wife Susan of Lafayette;
two daughters, Suzette and her husband Rev. Joseph Gall of Egan and
Johnette and her husband Patrick Leleux Sr. of Lyons Point; one brother,
Clifton Guidry of Jennings; two sisters, Vivian Broussard of Lafayette

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Louise Pousson Guidry;
two brothers, Chester and Wilfred Guidry; and one sister, Velma Romero.
Mr. Guidry was former principal of Morse Elementary, Midland High School
and Redemptorist Catholic with 36 years of services in education. He
was also a veteran of World War II as a member of the United States
Army.

Mrs. Clement died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional
Medical Center in Lafayette.
Survivors include her husband, J.F. Clement Sr. of Iota; two sons, Joey
Clement of Lafayette and Jeffrey Clement and his wife Tammy of Iota;
two daughters and sons-in-law, Judia LaCombe and T-Man of
Iota and Joella Lease and Ronnie; seven grandchildren, Julie LaCombe

Kim Fruge of Mire, Milton Fruge of Iota, Jordan Clement of Iota and

She was a CCD teacher for 19 years, a special education teacher for
five years, a Eucharistic Minister since 1978, and was a member of the
Ladies Altar Society for 50 years and of the Catholic Daughters of the
Americas for 40 years.

Carriere, Gary LaCombe, Wade LaCombe and Troy Hebert.

her family and friends.

Mary of Gueydan; one daughter and son-in-law, Jackie Walker and George
of Irving, Texas; three brothers, Lawrence Broussard Sr. of Morse, Felix
Broussard Sr. of Bundix Lake and Joseph Roy Broussard of Beaumont, Texas;
one sister, Anna Mae LeBlanc of Bridge City, Texas; five grandchildren,
