Barry
L. Hearod
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday,
April 1, 2002 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota for Barry
Lane Hearod, 47, who died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2002
as the result of a traffic accident. Visitation will be held
from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. today and again from 8 a.m. until
the time of services Monday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home
in Iota. A rosary will be tonight at 6 p.m. Burial will be in
the St. Joseph Mausoleum. Survivors include his parents, William
and Celia Young Hearod of Iota; one son, Benjamin Hearod of
Crowley; two daughters, Hailey Hearod and Melanie Broussard
of Iota; four nephews, Jason, Darren and Douglas LeJeune and
Dr. Eric Prather; four nieces Jill Medeiros, Britney and Abbey
Hebert and Alaina LeJeune; four great-nieces, Morgan, Maria
and Greta Medeiros, and Natalie LeJeune, three sisters, Patricia
H. LeJeune of Iota, Brenda H. Prather and her husband, Norman
of Iota and Debra H. Hebert and her husband Mike of Iota. Mr.
Hearod graduated from Iota High School in 1972. He then attended
LSUE for three years and then obtained his Pharmacy degree from
the University of Louisiana at Monroe (formerly NLU), in 1979.
He owned and operated Thrifty Way Pharmacy in Jennings for over
20 years. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and was well known
for his generous gifts of time and money to many charitable
causes.

Henrietta Hebert, MHS
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held
Monday, April 1, 2002 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial
in the Bethany Chapel for Sister Henrietta Hebert, MHS, age
82, who died Saturday, March 30, 2002 at 1:15 p.m. in the Bethany
MHS Health Care Center. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
The Rev. Thomas Finley, Chaplain, Bethany MHS Health Care Center,
will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the
services. Survivors include five brothers, Clifford Hebert of
Abbeville, Rodney, Leroy, Wilfred and Wilson Hebert, all of
Welsh; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Algole Hebert and Eula Hains Hebert; one
brother, Nelson Hebert; and one sister, Mrs. Lorrie ûDotÒ Ardoin.
A native of Crowley, Sister Henrietta received a BA degree in
English (Education) from USL and an MA degree in English and
French from St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO. She was certified
to teach high school English and French. Sisters Henrietta entered
the Convent of the Most Holy Sacrament on June 5, 1935 and made
Profession of Perpetual Vows on August 15, 1940. She taught
high school for 31 years, 22 years at St. MichaelÚs in Crowley
and 7 years at Annunciation in New Orleans. Sister Henrietta
spent another 13 years serving the community as receptionist
and secretary. When St. MichaelÚs opened the Christian Care
Center, Sister Henrietta became involved and spent 10 years
serving there. In February 1996 Sister Henrietta retired because
of health problems and moved to Bethany MHS Health Care Center
in Lafayette. Visiting hours will be observed at the Bethany
Chapel on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services. Honorary
pallbearers are her five brothers, Clifford, Rodney, Leroy,
Wilfred and Wilson Hebert. Memorial contributions may be made
to the Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament, P.O. Box 90037, Lafayette,
La. 70509. Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin & Castille
Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April
2, 2002 at 2 p.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Hazel
Lebert Guidry, 75, who died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at 9:45
a.m. at Crowley Guest House. Father Joe Greenwell will officiate
for the services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday
evening and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation
is Monday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and again Tuesday from
8 a.m. until the time of services. Survivors include five daughters,
Laura Leleux of Houston, Carole Schexnaider of Crowley, Caroline
Hebert of Crowley, Eva Guidry of Crowley and Juanita Iglinsky
of Madison, Ga.; one son, Essie Guidry Jr. of Porter, TX.; one
sister, Florence Oliver of Rayne; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Guidry was preceded in death by her husband Essie Guidry,
Sr., her parents, Louis Hebert, Jr. and Oneline Matte Lebert
and three sisters, Anita Lebert, Mary Gary and Iva Meche. Mrs.
Guidry was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Funeral
services will be held Monday, April 1, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate
Heart of Mary Church for Henry W. Abshire, 85, who died Friday,
March 29 at 7:29 p.m. at Crowley American Legion Hospital. Father
Joe Greenwell will officiate for the services. A rosary will
be offered in prayer at 6:30 p.m. tonight. Burial will be in
Abshire Cemetery. Visitation is today from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.
and Monday at 8 a.m. until the time of services at Geesey-Ferguson
Funeral Home in Crowley. Survivors include one son, Lawrence
Abshire of Crowley; one grandson, Joey James Abshire and his
wife Theresa; two great-grandsons, Justin and Jason Abshire
and a very special friend, Angela Sue Amie. Mr. Abshire was
a retired plumber and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. Most recently
Mr. Abshire worked as a St. MichaelÚs school crossing guard
at Northern Avenue.

1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church for Hilda Ritter Miller
Simar, 86, who died Saturday, March 30 at Crowley Guest House.
Fr. David Broussard will officiate for the services. Burial
will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iota. Visitation will
be held Sunday from 3-8 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until the
time of services. A rosary will be recited today at 6:30 p.m.
at the funeral home. Survivors include one daughter, Georgella
M. Curtis of Austin, TX; two sisters, Eva Rose R. Hinchee and
Bernadine R. Daigle both of Jennings; two brothers, Berchmans
Ritter and Leon Ritter both of Iota; four grandchildren, Thomas
Glenn Brown, Roxanne Richard, Tammy Marie Brown and James Bryan
Brown; six great-grandchildren, Jordan, Alex, Shawn, Nicholas,
Lisa and Steven, one great great-grandson, Ethan. Mrs. Simar
was preceded in death by her parents Butler Anthony and Ella
LeJeune Ritter, her first husband, George Leo Miller, her second
husband, Jonathan T. Miller, one daughter, Judith Ann Miller

47, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002 at his residence
in Gueydan. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday,
March 30, 2002, at Matthews and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial
was in the Gueydan Cemetery.

IOTA
- Funeral services were held Saturday, March 30, 2002, at 1
p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church for Eva Doucet Pousson, 90,
who died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at 5:55 p.m. at her residence
in Egan. Fathers David Broussard and Donald Pousson co-celebrated
the funeral services. The Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday
and burial was in the St. Joseph Mausoleum. Survivors include
two sons, Shelton Pousson and his wife Betty of Egan, Dale Pousson
and his wife Marguerite of Egan; one daughter, Cherlyn Pousson
of Lafayette, three grandchildren, Donna P. Hebert, Karen P.
Leonards and Shelly Pousson, seven great-grandchildren, Kyle,
John, Layne, Katelyn, Phillip, Garrett and Ashlyn. Mrs. Pousson
was preceded in death by her husband, John Irvin Pousson, her
parents, Zim and Julia Gotte Doucet; three sisters, Alice Pousson,
Madeline LeJeune and Maria LeJeune and one brother, Drazimond
Doucet. Mrs. Pousson was a resident of Egan and a member of
St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Ladies Altar Society and the
Catholic Daughters of America. In her earlier years she was
very involved in 4-H and she also loved plants. Geesey-Ferguson

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March
30, at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Donatile Abshire
Cormier, 96, who died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at 11 a.m.
at Bayou Village Nursing Home in Crowley.
The Rev. Joe Greenwell will officiate for the services. A rosary
will be offered in prayer ar 6 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in
Abshire Cemetery.
Visitation will be observed Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and
Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of the services.
Survivors include one daughter, Deanna C. LeJeune of Crowley;
one son, Leroy Cormier of Cade; 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren
and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alcide and Eula Lapoint
Abshire; her husband, Louis Cormier; one son, Nelson Cormier;
one daughter, Nolian C. Istre; two granddaughters, Debbie Istre
and Cynthia Istre; one grandson, Daniel Cormier, and two great
grandsons, Heath Trahan and Adam Champagne.
Pallbearers include her grandsons, Ray Istre, Kenneth Istre,
Mike Cormier, Lee Cormier, Steven LeJeune Jr. and Louis LeJeune.

Zion Baptist Church of Crowley for Lillie Pearl Harmon Babineaux,
41, who died Tuesday, Feb. 26, at American Legion Hospital in
Crowley. Visitation will be held Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.
at Mount Zion Baptist Church until the time of the services.
Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery in Branch. Survivors
include her mother, Elnora H. Harmon of Crowley; her husband,

services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2002,
at a Mass of Christian Burial, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic
Church in Crowley for Maxie Antoine Trahan, 80, who died at
11 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at his residence following
an extended illness. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery
in Crowley. The Monsignor Fred Swenson will officiate at the
services. Music will be provided by members of the St. Michael
Church Choirs under the direction of L.J. Dailey with Esther
Trahan as organist. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Danna, Wes
Bertrand, Maxie Trahan, Bill Trahan, Michael DeCuir, Benny DeCuir,
Bradley DeCuir, and Tommy Chaisson. Honorary pallbearers will
be Jerry Bennett of Baton Rouge and Gene Hoffpauir of Lafayette.
Born in Vermilion Parish, Mr. Trahan moved to Crowley in 1947.
He was owner and operator of Maxie's Paint and Body Shop and
Mr. Fog Pest Control until his retirement. An avid restorer
of antique automobiles and furniture, Mr. Trahan was a member
of the Evangeline Chapter of the Antique Automobile Clubs of
America and a Master Judge. Survivors include his wife of 61
years, Marie Hebert Trahan; a daughter, Glenda T. Danna and
husband Jerry of Crowley; two sons, Larry Trahan and wife Esther
of Crowley and John Trahan and wife Denise of Rayne; a sister,
Annie Lou Hollier of Cow Island; six grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Alexander Trahan and Honoria Hebert Trahan. Visitation will
be observed from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. tonight and 8 a.m. until
the time of services Saturday. A rosary will be recited at 6:30
p.m. tonight. Mrs. Trahan's family is grateful for the care

Victoria, 48, who died Thursday, March 14, at 8:30 p.m. at the
Veterans Administration Medical Center. Pastor Donald R. Burnette

from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Survivors include
his mother, Ruth Victoria of Crowley; two daughters, Chrystal

his father, Lucius Joseph Victoria. Victoria was a veteran of
the Viet Nam War where he served for four years in the United
States Marines. He attended Lany College in Oakland, Calif.,
where he received a degree in welding. He also served as a faithful
member, usher and member of the MenÚs Choir of Morning Star
Missionary Baptist Church. Syrie Funeral Home of Crowley has

a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for Wilson
P. Cormier, 78, who died Wednesday, March 20 at 5:30 a.m. at
his residence. Officiating for the services will be Fr. Joseph
Greenwell. Burial will be in the St. John the Baptist Cemetery
in Lyons Point. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11 a.m.
to 10 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of the service.
A rosary will be recited Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca C. Hayes of Hoyt,
Kan., Roxanne C. Hayes and Vivian Cormier, both of Holton, Kan;
three sons, Rodney Cormier and Bruce Cormier of Soldier, Kan.
and Wade Cormier of Mayette, Kan.; three stepdaughters, Vickie
L. Kibodeaux, Phyllis L. Cormier and Karen L. Constantin, all
of Crowley; two stepsons, Ronnie LeBeouf and Jeff LeBeouf of
Crowley; one brother, Hodo Cormier of Lyons Point; 31 grandchildren
and 12 great grandchildren. Mr. Cormier retired from the United
State Air Force in 1963 having served his country for 20 years.
He served six years in the Air Force Reserves after retirement.
Upon his retirement, he and his family moved to Soldier, Kan.,
where he farmed from 1963 to 1970, at which time, he moved to
Crowley. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
#6720 of Crowley. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred
Cormier; his parents, Odelon and Thelma Fontenot Cormier; one
brother, Rufford Cormier; one stepson, Ruston LeBeouf Jr.; and
one granddaughter, Mica LeBeouf. Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home

HOUMA - Gloria Gladys Hoffman Lina, 77, a native of Rayne and
resident of Houma, died at 2:34 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2002.
Visitation was from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to funeral
time Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Mass was at 10 a.m. Monday,
March 18, 2002, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial in
St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. She is survived by three
sons, Robert P. Lina, James L. Lina of Houma and Ronald H. Lina
of Lafayette; two daughters, Joanna L. Breaux of Covington and
Rita L. Fremin of Thibodaux; one brother, Harvey Hoffman of
Hammond; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Lina Jr.; her parents,
Leon Hoffman Sr. and Theresa Sinitiere Hoffman; one son, Richard
Lina; three brothers, Leon Hoffman Jr., Ronald Hoffman and Donald
Hoffman; and one sister, Lorraine H. Day. She was a parishioner
of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral and St. Anthony Catholic Church.
She was a homemaker.

Funeral
services will be held Friday, March 22 at 2 p.m. in St. Michael
Catholic Church for John Wilbert Hargrave, 69, who died Wednesday,
March 20, 2002 at his residence in Crowley. Burial will be in
Hanks Cemetery in Morse. A rosary will be recited tonight at
6:30 p.m. at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home with Fr. Albert Nunez.
Survivors include one sister, Edith H. Thibodeaux of Morse and
one brother, Freddie Hargrave of Crowley along with a host of
nieces and nephews. Mr. Hargrave was preceded in death by his
parents, Bazile and Camilla Hargrave, two sisters, Eve Cormier
and Evia Simon and one brother, Wilfred Hargrave. Mr. Hargrave
was a retired flagman for the Department of Transportation and

Monceaux, 86, who died at LaBonne Maison Nursing Home in Crowley
on Monday, March 18, 2002 at 7:30 a.m. Officiating the service

from 5 to 10 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of
the services. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. A rosary
was recited at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Survivors
include a son, Leo Monceaux of Crowley; six grandchildren, Rikki

Prejean; one sister, Opelia Guidry; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dulphee Monceaux;
one son, C.A. Monceaux; and her parents, Ada Matthews and Clarville
Prejean. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic
Church and a life time member of the Ladies Altar Society. Geesey-Ferguson

Church of Christ for Allen Roy Pelly, 72, who died at 12:55
a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at the Jennings American Legion

Thursday from 8 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be
in the Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Pauline

Cemetery in Mermentau Cove for John Clarence Clement, Sr., 65,
who died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at his residence. Father

on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Survivors
include one son, John C. Clement, Jr., of DeRidder; his father,
Donician Clement of Crowley; five brothers, Walter Clement of

Miller, 88, who died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002 at
his residence in Lafayette. Rev. Ira Robinson will officiate
for the services. Burial will be held in Fountain Memorial Mausoleum.

He was preceded in death by his father, Artlous Miller; his
mother, Barbara Miller; a brother, Jimmy Miller; his first wife,
Lois Richey Miller; and, two sons. Mr. Miller was born in Acadia
Parish and was a resident of Lafayette for 20 years. He was
a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Marine Corp.
He was a retired teacher and coach in Acadia Parish. Mr. Miller
loved sports and fishing. He was a member of Asbury Methodist
Church. Rev. and Mrs. Lloyd Singley will provide special music

LAKE CHARLES - Funeral services for Lawrence E. Hoffpauir Jr.,
74, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2002 in Johnson
Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Hugh Wallis and Mr. Clinton Duke

died at 12:57 a.m. Monday, March 18, in a local hospital. He
was a native of Crowley and lived most of his life in Lake Charles.
He served as an usher and was a long-time member of First Baptist
Church of Lake Charles. Hoffpauir was a veteran of the United
States Marine Corps serving in World War II. He was retired
from South Central Bell Telephone Company after many years of
service. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers Workers
of America. Survivors include his wife, Walterine McCoy Hoffpauir
of Lake Charles; one son, Larry Hoffpauir of Lake Charles; one
daughter, Donna Hudspeth of Dallas; one sister, Deanna Habetz
of Crowley; one brother, Buddy Hoffpauir of Crowley; and five

Club, board member of the Franklin Parish Council on Aging,
and held every office in the Franklin Parish Extension Homemakers.
She competed in the Sr. Olympics, both locally and state-wide,
and was a very active member of the Gilbert First Baptist Church
where she served as the church secretary and taught Sunday school
for many years. Pall bearers include Johnny and Bill Lofton,
Billy and Jamie Shelton, Chris Chiasson, Todd Snuggs and Chad

was a lector, minister of Communion, and council member. He
was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church
and was a former member of the 'Waffle House Coffee Club.' His
hobby was woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Loah B. Simar

Jr. and Bob Aiken. ûTaunte Choun,Ò as she was known, will be
remembered for her kindness and love of her family. She made
the best home-made bread and bread pudding, and in turn, give
to her family. Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne has been entrusted
with the arrangements.

Funeral services
will be held Tuesday, March 26, 11 a .m. at Geesey-Ferguson
Funeral Home Chapel for Joseph Johnny Rivers Levi
Rivers, 80, who died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at 3:21 a.m. at
Our Lady Of Lourdes in Lafayette.
Pastors Jeff Ables and David Baudoin of Bethel Assembly of God
will officiate for the services. Special music will be provided
by Russell Linscombe. Burial will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Tuesday
from 8 a.m. to service time.
Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Ethel Rivers
of Crowley; one daughter, Judy Rivers of Logans Port, Ga.; two
stepsons, Ted Dietz and David Dietz, both of Crowley; two stepdaughters,
Cynthia Dietz and Darlene Trahan, both of Crowley; one sister,
Lena Leger of Church Point; one brother, Gervis Riviere.
Pallbearers will be Leon Leger, Gene Meyers, Ted Dietz Sr.,
Ted Dietz Jr., Buster Leger, John Odonnell, Brandon Broussard
and Johnathon Broussard.
Mr. Rivers was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in
Lafayette. He was a Veteran of World War II serving his country
as a lieutenant and pilot in the U.S. Navy. While serving his
country, he received the Purple Heart and numerous other medals.
After he returned from the Navy, he worked 40 years in the oil
field as an electrical engineer.
He then delivered the Crowley Post-Signal.
Mr. Rivers was preceded in death by his parents, Armas and Josephine
Riviere; two brothers; Leroy and Eli Riviere; and two sisters,
Leda Addison and Mary Dupuis.
Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley is in charge of arrangements.
