Deacon Moses Alexander Sr.
On Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 10:30 p.m., God called one of His servants to his heavenly home, Deacon Moses Alexander Sr.
Brother Moses, or “Stick” as he was affectionately called, was born in Waxia on July 5, 1927, to the late Floyd Alexander and Martha Parker. He was reared by a devoted stepfather, the late Kelton Tezeno Sr.
Brother Moses gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was joined in holy matrimony to Sister Lizzie Alexander in 1944, and from this union were born 13 children. He labored hard for his loving family by working the cotton fields and various jobs in order to keep his family happy and to provide the necessities of life. He and Sister Lizzie reared their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. During their transition to Crowley, Brother Alexander, Sister Lizzie and the younger Alexander siblings joined Jerusalem Baptist Church and Brother Alexander became an active and devoted member in the church. He served as chairman of the Finance Committee, chairman of the Deacon Board, church custodian, usher president, van driver, a member of the Brotherhood Ministry and Male Chorus. He was elected as the second vice president of the City-Wide Union Usher Board and was a member of the Crowley Laymen. After many years of serving as a faithful Chairman of the Deacon Board, he was appointed as Deacon Emeritus.
After 44 years of marriage, Sister Lizzie was called home to be with the Lord. After years passed, Brother Alexander was joined in holy matrimony to Sister Geraldine Garrett, who was also called to be with her Heavenly Father.
Brother Alexander loved his family and he looked forward to taking family bus rides. Some of his favorites were to Gatlinburg, Tennessee; Orlando, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia. Another “love” of his was watching the New Orleans Saints. He even got a chance to attend a Saints/Atlanta game in Atlanta. He also loved gardening. This was another way of providing food for his family and neighbors.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Catherine Patterson of Crowley, Loyce Benjamin of Houston, Texas, Martha Alexander of Crowley, John L. Alexander (Judy) of New Orleans, Floyd J. Alexander Sr. of Harvey, Gloria Dabney (Michael) of Crowley, Mitchell R. Alexander Sr. (Lenier) of Crowley, James C. Alexander Sr. (Violet) of Houston, Donald R. Brother Alexander was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Alexander and Martha Parker; stepfather Kelton Tezeno Sr.; his first wife, Lizzie D. Alexander; two sons, Isaac (deceased at birth) and Moses Jr.; his second wife, Geraldine. G. Alexander; sons-in-law, David Patterson and Taft Benjamin Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Liza R. Alexander; one sister, Albertha Edwards; and three brothers, Buck Tezeno Sr., Kelton Tezeno and Orell Tezeno.
Brother Alexander lived a long and full life and will be deeply missed by the many loved ones and friends who knew and loved him dearly. Brother Alexander will have the joy of spending his 87 birthday in the presence of his loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
