Delores Ann Lyons-Jones
“God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, ‘Come to me.’”
Delores Ann Lyons-Jones (65 years old) was born on Dec. 23, 1948. At a young age, she gave her life to Christ as a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under Rev. George Lewis in the village of Mermentau. She received her formal schooling in Acadia Parish’s school system from elementary throughout her high school career. She attended Grambling State University receiving a Bachelor of Art degree in education. Delores was employed with the Acadia Parish school system where she taught for over 21 years at Mermentau Elementary.
She later became a member of Israelite Baptist Church under the pastorate of Pastor Ivan J. Lewis for many years. There she served as a deaconess and Sunday School superintendent. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Stars. Recently she joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Donald Burnett until she moved to Rayne. Delores was also a member of National Association of University Women.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Lloyd Jones. Delores was a Bible scholar; she enjoyed studying the word of God and received a certificate in Bible literacy.
She leaves to mourn her transformation, yet cherish her memories, one sister, Dona Stinson (Lester) of Elton; two brothers, Harold Primeaux (Jackie) and Donald Premo, both of Mermentau; one sister “in heart”, Myrtle Cain of Crowley; and a granddaughter “in heart”, Chassity Jones of New Orleans; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mrs. Virgie Mae Lyons Premo, Rev. Benjamin White and Mr. Shafter Premo; two brothers, Billy Joe Premo and Larry White; one sister, Eulella Morrison; and nephew, Donald “Ralph” Premo.
Visitation for Delores will be held at Wilturner Funeral Home of Crowley, located on the corner of Sixth Street and Avenue C, from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, June 3. A graveside burial follow at 1 p.m. at the Mermentau Cemetery.
