Donovan Russell Klumpp, Sr.

It’s with great sadness that the family of Donavon Russell Klumpp, Sr. announces his passing from this life on May 23, 2014 at the age of 76. Donavon passed away at Jennings American Legion Hospital. He was born in Basile (Tee-Mamou) to the late Roman Klumpp and Effie LeJeune Klumpp on April 2, 1938. Donavon was a Rig Engineer on offshore platforms. He was in the Merchant Marines and served his Country honorably in the United States Navy. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. Donavon enjoyed playing cards and watching the Western channel.
Donavon leaves behind to cherish his memories, his beloved wife, Jo Rita Miller Klumpp of Basile; three sons, Donavon ”Rusty” Klumpp, Jr. of Lafayette, Byron Keith Klumpp (Marion) of Iota, and Christopher Michael Klumpp of Basile; one step-son Michael Brandon Miller (Lavessa) of Kinder; his four sisters, Lovie Henderson of Jennings,, Ramona Klumpp of Jennings, Gertie Benoit (Leo) of Basile, LA and Sandra Simar of Evangeline; one son-in-law, Jerry Jenkins of Basile and one sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Klumpp of Jennings; also, 15 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Donavon is preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Effie LeJeune Klumpp; one daughter, Angela Klumpp Jenkins, one brother, Harold Dean Klumpp and one sister, Audrey Young.
A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Donavon’s life will be held at St Jules Catholic Church in Tee-Mamou on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Father David Broussard officiating. Interment will be in Klumpp Cemetery where Donavon will honored with full Military rites. Visitation was held at the Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Jennings on Saturday, March 24, 2014 from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Sunday, March 25, 2014 at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass.
Carrying Donavon to his eternal resting place will be Michael Dean Klumpp, Shane Trahan, Chris Klumpp, Justin LeJeune, Brian Klumpp and Leo Benoit.
