Dr. David E. Greenway
Rayne- Memorial Services honoring the life of Dr. David E. Greenway, 57, were held at 4:00 PM on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Duhon Funeral Home of Rayne, LA. The family received friends beginning at 3:00 PM and the services was officiated by members of the Lafayette Bible Chapel. Dr. Greenway passed away on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at his home in Lafayette, LA surrounded by his family and friends.
Dr. Greenway is survived by his wife, Dan Liu Greenway, MD, of Lafayette, LA, and a native of Wei Hai, Shan Dong, China; step son, Rui Han and his wife, Yidan Qiu Han; two step daughters, Michelle Di Lorenzo and Kayla O’Neal. He was the son of the late Everette Seldon Greenway and Lissie Rich Greenway who currently resides in Asheboro, NC. David also has three surviving sisters, Joyce Kinley, Gloria Jennings, and Sharon Irving and a brother Darrell Greenway. David’s proudest achievement was being the father of four girls:Victoria Elizabeth, Madison Everette, Laurel Mae, and Ella Rose Greenway who live with their mother, Laura Greenway in Lafayette, LA.
An Archdale, NC native David spent his childhood on the small family farm and had the freedom to play warrior and hero games in the woods, ride a beloved pony, and race around on a mini-bike.His love of country life was reflected in his choice of a residence in the country in St Martinville, LA, where he and his wife kept bees, goats, and chickens. David joined the US Marine Corps in 1974 and was stationed in Beaufort, SC, Iwakuni, Japan, the Philippines and Cherry Point, NC. He left the Marine Corps in 1978 to fulfill his desire for an education. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1986 with a BA in psychology. In 1994, he obtained a PhD in Psychology from the University of New Mexico. His area of research was in the behavioral analysis of substance abuse disorders. He became part of the faculty at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1996 where he was employed as a Tenured Associate Professor of Psychology at the time of his death. He was licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in 1997 by the state of Louisiana and in 2004 he opened a Psychology practice, Square Root of Pi Psychological Associates. He did work as a Clinical Psychologist for Tyler Mental Health in Lafayette.
David was a sophisticated thinker who never lost his love of the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed reading, particularly science fiction; farming, music, movies and boats. His beautiful tenor voice, sense of humor and zest for life will be missed by his children, wife, siblings, colleagues and friends.
The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, Acadian Ambulance, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the staff at Paramont Hospice. Donations may be made to the David Greenway Family Fund.
