Hilda Fremaux Gott
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend, Hilda Fremaux Gott, (Mrs. Charles S. Gott), passed away on Aug. 22, 2014, in Katy, Texas, at the age of 102.
She was born in Crowley on July 6, 1912, the daughter and second child of Joseph Oscar Fremaux and Orphise Fernandez Fremaux. She was raised in Crowley, graduated from Crowley High School in 1929, attended LSU, and finished at Sophie Newcomb College in 1933, at the age of 20.
She married Charles S. Gott in 1937. Mrs. Gott taught English at Rayne High School from 1934 to 1940. She returned to an active teaching career at Crowley High School in 1958, teaching freshman English, and retired from Crowley High in 1972. She was a charter member of the Attakapas Study Club and the St. Michael’s Ladies Altar Society.
Mrs. Gott was preceded in death in 1987 by her husband of 50 years, Charles S. Gott; by her son, Malcolm D. Gott; and her daughter Elaine Marie Gott. She was a loving wife and devoted mother whose exceptional kindness and loyalty were appreciated by all. Hilda is remembered for living a life filled with faith, patience, and acceptance.
She is survived by one daughter, Gloria Petry and husband Gary of Katy, Texas; and two sons, Charles J. Gott and partner Michael Roberts of Sarasota, Florida, and John O. Gott and wife Shonna Granger Gott of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Dianne Gott Thompson (Scott) of Lake Jackson, Texas, Karen Gott Buckner (David) of Dallas, Texas, Stephanie Petry Buehner (Chad) of Jackson, Mississippi, Katherine Petry Cunningham (Kurt) of Houston, Texas, Andrew Petry of Katy, Texas, John-Michael Gott of Lafayette, Sean Paul Gott of Lafayette and Abbie Sonnier of Basile; and four great-grandchildren, Sloane Thompson, Garrett Buehner, Allison Buehner, and Justin Sonnier.
The family is especially grateful to Hilda’s daughter Gloria, who took on the role of caretaker for her mother these past several years. The family would also like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Rose’s Retreat, especially Rose Taylor-Bridges and Peaches Morris who have been so supportive of Hilda these past eight years.
The family is forever thankful to this wonderful group of women and to this outstanding facility.
Visitation will be at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley on Thursday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. until service time, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church officiated by Fr. Marshall Boulet.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Petry, John-Michael Gott, Sean Paul Gott, David Buckner, and Chad Buehner.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Crowley.
