Julia Freida Breaux Stewart
Julia Freida Breaux Stewart, 91, of Lake Charles, LA died at 10:10 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Stewart was born June 30, 1922 in Rayne, LA and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School. She moved to Maplewood in 1953 and then to Lake Charles in 1954, where she has resided in the same home that she and her husband built together. She was an active member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Come, Lord Jesus! group for over forty years. She also served as a CCD teacher, Ladies Altar Society, Home Eucharistic Minister, and was a bereavement meal coordinator. During her later years, Mrs. Stewart volunteered her time at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, where she was part of the Ladies Auxiliary. Her children were always a major part of her life; during her younger years she could often be seen at Landry High School helping with various activities. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and baking and never met a stranger. Mrs. Stewart will always be remembered for her encouraging, positive, and loving nature. She also enjoyed her Sunday afternoon meals with her family and will be missed dearly.
Mrs. Stewart is survived by her loving husband of seventy years, James Milton Stewart; children, James Bennett Stewart and wife Linda of Lake Charles; John “Barney” Stewart and wife Deanie of Rayne, LA; Joan Brenda Nixon and husband Ted of Lake Charles, and Tommy Stewart of Sulphur, LA; cousin and close friend, Rita Stutes; nieces, Candy Zube and Paula Podrill; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren, with three on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jean Davis and Bertha Marie Breaux; in-laws, Otis and Bertha Stewart; and a grandson, Paul Trevor Stewart.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Fathers Bill Miller and Don Piraro will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the funeral home.
