A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for L.J. Dailey, 75, who died at 10:17 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, in Lafayette.
Fr. Mikel Polson will celebrate the Mass. Visitation may be observed on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
L.J. was born Jan. 12, 1939, in Crowley. He was a lifelong resident of Crowley. He graduated from Crowley High School and attended University of Louisiana at Lafayette (formerly USL) and Louisiana State University at Eunice.
L.J. devoted 45 1/2 years of his life to the banking industry and spent 26 of those years as the first president of the Crowley Building and Loan Association (now Home Bank). He was also the first vice president, board of director and business development officer of Home Bank – Crowley branch. Throughout his career, L.J. served in a variety of appointments as Board of Director and Education Committee Chairman of the Louisiana Savings and Loans League and the United Savings and Loan League.
Mr. Dailey was a caring, active and conscientious member of his community serving as past president of Crowley Town Club (eight years), King Cimmer XXII of Crowley Town Club Mardi Gras, past captain of Krewe of Town Revelers, past president of Greater Crowley Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, Governor’s Representative of District #6200 – Rotary International, Paul Harris Fellow – Rotary International, past president of Crowley Jaycees, and past president of International Rice Festival.
He was also a board member of the International Rice Festival, organizer and member of Krewe of Town Revelers and a member of Crowley Main Street Development Program. L.J. had a deep love for music and served Christ through music ministry over 30 years by organizing and directing the St. Michael’s Mixed Choir.
He is survived by his wife Edith M. Dailey of Crowley; a daughter, Carol Tall and husband Mark of Crowley; two sons, Brett Dailey and wife Donna and Scott Dailey, all of Crowley; eight grandchildren, Joseph, Rachelle, Anna, Andrew, Collin, Alyssa, Madyson and Jacob; one great-grandchild Brayden; a sister, Verta Mae Guidry of Beaumont, Texas; and two brothers, J.C. Dailey of New Iberia and Jerry Dailey of Crowley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Anna Foreman Dailey; two brothers, Larry and Edward Dailey; and a sister, Shirley Williams.
The family would like to express their utmost appreciation to Dr. Rosin and Dr. Jenkins for their tremendous care of L.J. over the years. Many thanks also to L.J.’s friends and family who visited and prayed for him during his time of illness.
