A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Thursday, June 19, at 2 p.m. honoring the life of Myrtis A. Gautreaux, 72, who died on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. She will be laid to rest in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Cemetery with Reverend Randall Moreau officiating the services.
Myrtis was born in Kaplan to the late Theodule Adams and the late Ida Dubois Adams. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She loved her little community where she served as Mayor of Mermentau for some time and was well known at the bait shop. She was also a retired cafeteria worker. She loved basketball games, music and playing Pokeno with her friends. Myrtis had a heart of gold and greeted everyone with a warm smile.
Myrtis is survived by her two sons, Tony Gautreaux of Mermentau and Troy Gautreaux and wife Stephanie of Morse; her two grandchildren, T.J. Gautreaux and Jake Gautreaux, both of Morse; two step-grandchildren, Jessica Simon of Gueydan and Aaron Simon of Crowley; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Myrtis is preceded in death by her parents, Theodule and Ida Dubois Adams; her beloved husband, Hubert “Brains” Gautreaux; and her son, Randy Gautreaux.
The Gautreaux family requests visitation to be observed at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Jennings, on Wednesday, June 18, beginning at 5 p.m. until the time of her service on Thursday at 2 p.m. A Rosary was recited on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
Carrying Myrtis to her eternal resting place will be T.J. Gautreaux, Jake Gautreaux, Aaron Simon, Cade Sonnier, Cedric Istre and Brandon Istre. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Guidry, Chaison Langlinais and Joey Gautreaux.
