Oil spill open house planned for Thursday
BALDWIN - Various agencies involved in the BP oil spill response will participate in an open house Thursday in St. Mary Parish.
The open house will begin at 6 p.m. at the Baldwin Civic Center, 305 La. 83 in Baldwin.
It is one of three in the state this week and the closest to the Lafayette area. The other two open houses will be in Cameron Parish at the Camp Creole Multi-purpose Center today at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday in St. Benard Parish in Chalmette.
The open houses are designed to give residents the opportunity to engage one-on-one with experts about the techniques, strategies and materials used in the oil spill response.
Experts from agencies responding to the spill will answer questions, including the concerns about environmental quality and wildlife, as well as resources available to residents that have been affected by the oil spill.
Representatives from BP, the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and other federal, state and local agencies are scheduled to attend the open houses.
Claims representatives are also expected to attend and will answer questions about the claims process.
