Forest O’neal Arvie, 35, 214 E. Wilson St., Ville Platte, is facing attempted second-degree murder charges after allegedly shooting a local man in the upper chest area Saturday, March 15.

Police Chief Neal Lartigue said the investigation revealed the shooting was the result of an ongoing feud between the two men.

Ville Platte officers were called to East Jackson Street at approximately 6:15 a.m. in regards to the shooting. Officers discovered a black male, in his early 30s, had been shot in the chest. He was transported to Ville Platte Medical Center. On Tuesday, March 18, Lartigue said the victim had been released from the hospital.

A witness told authorities there were two men in the streets when three to four shots were fired. Authorities chased Arvie into the backyard of a residence before arresting him. Besides Arvie’s attempted murder charge, he has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal use of a firearm.

Lartigue thanked the community for its continued support and urged everyone to report any illegal activities to his department. He said all callers will remain anonymous.
