Oren Paul “O.P.” Simon, Jr.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, in St. Michael Catholic Church in Crowley for Oren Paul “O.P.” Simon, Jr., 61, who died at 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at his residence.
Officiating for the services was Father Gary Schexnayder. Burial was held in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Visitation was observed from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009, and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services. A Rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009.
Mr. Simon was in the oilfield business for over 35 years, working for Hub City Coil Tubing in Lafayette. He was operations manager for the last four years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 15 and on the Rice Festival Board of Directors. He was recently awarded the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal.
O.P. loved to spend time with his family and especially with his grandchildren. He was an avid golfer and loved traveling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Patty Kanter Simon of Crowley; two sons, Oren P. “Trey” Simon III and his wife, Traci, and Ryan “Simon” P. Simon, all of Crowley; two grandchildren, Cole Michael Simon and Avari Kate Simon; his parents, Oren P. and Betty Simon of Crowley; two brothers, James Simon, wife Cheryl and Robert Simon, wife Debbie, all of Lafayette.
Pallbearers were Cole Michael Simon, Oren “Trey” Simon III, Ryan “Simon” Simon, Bill Jackson, Jody Viator, James Simon, Robert Simon, Charles Abshire and Jack Tackett.
