Painting the town purple, gold and green

The Chic-A-la-Pie Krewe is asking the town to get in the Mardi Gras spirit by "Painting the town purple, gold and green.

Purple, gold and green are the colors of Mardi Gras.

Krewe Chic-A-la-Pie was established in Kaplan in 1952.

The krewe was formed to keep the Cajun Mardi Gras heritage alive.

For the second consecutive year, a tradition is being implemented involving the city's businesses.

The krewe is asking businesses to decorate their store fronts in purple, gold and green.

Krewe Chic-A-la-Pie will judge the decorations and determine a winner.

The business chosen to have the best display will be presented the krewe's new trophy called "The Ruby" in honor of its first Queen Jambalaya, Ruby Bailey.

The trophy will be presented during a live broadcast of the T.V. morning show, Channel 10's Passe Partout originating from Family Diner in Kaplan.

The winning business will be allowed to display "The Ruby" for one year and will be asked to turn it over to the business that wins the "Purple, Gold and Green" decorating contest the next year.

Businesses wishing to participate in the competition are asked to contact Marlene Romero at Marlene's Flower Center, 643-6554 to sign-up.

All businesses are encouraged to participate.

Mardi Gras is less than a month away. Krewe Chic-A-la-Pie parade registration forms are available at City Hall, Marlene's Flower Center and The Kaplan Herald.
