Parish communities set Christmas parades
The communities of Evangeline Parish are preparing for the Christmas holidays with their annual parades. Here are the following dates and times for area parades. Don’t forget to attend one or all of them.
The Turkey Creek Christmas parade will be Sunday, December 7, at 2 p.m. Lineup begins at 1 p.m. Anyone interested in signing up should call the village hall at 461-2212 or 461-2756.
The Ville Platte Chamber sponsored Christmas parade will be December 7, at 6 p.m. Christmas in the Square will also be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 363-1878.
Mamou’s Annual Cajun Christmas Parade will be Saturday, December 13, at sunset, 5 p.m. Santa will officially arrive in his big red sleigh, pulled by Egret’s, the official bird of Cajun Country.
Music for the occasion will be provided by the youthful Hunter Hayes band and long time participants, the Ville Platte Playboys.
Lineup begins at 4 p.m. at Mamou High School. Santa will disembark from his sleigh and light the city’s giant Christmas tree and then hand out bags of candy and take pictures with the children until 7 p.m. For more information please contact the parade chairman, Rozas, at 468-5271 or 468-5473. Participation in the parade is absolutely free of charge and anyone interested in being in the parade can call Reed at 468-5207.
Chataignier will hold its annual Christmas parade Sunday, December 14, at 4 p.m. along state Highway 29 from the old school building to the village hall. Festivities will begin with a reception at the village hall at 2:30 p.m.
The Pine Prairie Christmas Parade is scheduled for Sunday, December 14, at 2 p.m. Anyone interested in participating should call 599-2904 or come by the village hall at 1006 Edwin Elliott Drive. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, December 10, at 4 p.m.
