Pastor Ivan Lewis celebrates 20 years

The Israelite Baptist Church of Crowley held a celebration in honor of Pastor Irving Lewis’s 20th anniversary with the church.

The celebratory event was Sunday, February 14, 2010, opening with morning services presented by the children along with Minister DeAngelo Fransic of Israelite Baptist.

A parade, escorted by City of Crowley Police, from Pastor Lewis’s home to the church led the congregation to their afternoon services. During the afternoon worship services, led by guest preacher Willy Maynard, Jr., Pastor Lewis was honored for his 20 dedicated years of service at Israelite Baptist. In addition, three tributes were given in recognition of Pastor Lewis by Dora Johnson, Lavera George and Aaron Broussard.

City of Crowley Mayor Greg Jones was on hand at the services to issue a proclamation deeming February 14 as Pastor Irving Lewis Day in the city of Crowley. Mayor Jones admirably stated that Pastor Lewis, “has earned the respect and admiration of the community and the members of the Israelite Baptist Church.”

Pastor Lewis’s participates whole hearted in a variety of activities in the community. He currently serves as the president of the West Crowley Ministerial Alliance as well as established and serves as the chairperson for the West Crowley Churches Coming Together community celebration.

Under his leadership, the Israelite Community Development Corporation was formed to help instill values in young boys and girls with the transition to adulthood and to allow them to experience the culture in numerous activities including a trip at the end of the year to visit historic civil rights sites.

He has also overseen the formations of a book club created to offer young people throughout the community opportunities to read books by various authors that enable them to take part in educational discussions

Following the services, a reception was held where guests enjoyed refreshments along with fellowship. A lunch including barbecue, rice dressing, baked beans and potato salad was served. A confection of white cake finished with multi-colored icing was also enjoyed by all in attendance.
