Pedestrian identified in crash

On Monday, Rayne Police Chief Carroll Stelly released the name of the female pedestrian killed in an accident that occurred on Friday, July 17, around 3 a.m. on Highway 35 South.

The victim has been identified as Tonya Demette Gueldner, W/F, 44 years old, Dob 9/19/1964, of 811 The Boulevard in Rayne.

The Rayne Police Department is continuing its investigation of the fatality.

A Dodge Stratus was traveling North on Highway 35 South when the vehicle stuck the female pedestrian.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office.

Chemical analysis will be conducted on both the driver and victim and no charges have been filed at this time. The crash is still under investigation.
