Pink ladies coordinate September board meeting

Before the meeting began, Mr. Terry Osbourne, hospital administrator, came to speak to the members to thank them for their

service to the hospital.

He explained the necessary procedures to take in dealing with an impending disaster and evacuating of patients. He also assured the members that the president of the Pink Ladies will be notified of all hospital closures.

The meeting was called to order by the president, Yvonne Menard. Roll call was conducted by Ms. Menard in the absence of Sylvia Dischler. The minutes of the August meeting were read by Mary Briley, and the financial report was read by Georgie Petitjean.

Ms. Menard read a copy of a letter sent by Mr. Osbourne to Mr. Anthony Stymest of Old World Concrete thanking him for generous donations of time and materials in helping to beautify the front entrance of the hospital. She also read Mr. Osborne’s letter to the editor of the Post Signal detailing work that Mr. Stymest had done.

Gayle Godeaux stated that in addition to the committee, Thelma Istre also helped with the plants in the front entrance.

A thank-you note was received from Bobbie Leonards for the get well card and the pink carnation she received while in the hospital, and to express how proud she is to be a Pink Lady.

Mary Briley is going to contact the speaker, Ms. Joy Fragola, of the Southern Eye Bank, to finalize plans for the October meeting/luncheon. She will also call the newspapers to take pictures.

Briley reported that Emily Robinson has been trained as a new member and is working Friday mornings.

Franki Johnson reported that the October 2 luncheon plans have been finalized. The meeting will be held at the Town Club at 11 a.m. A dutch treat meal will be provided.

Nettie Romero will be ordering the Christmas stockings which will be used again this year for the month of December for newborn babies to be taken home in.

Ethel Thibodeaux explained to new members, Elaine Robison and Gayle Godeaux, what their duties are as chairwomen of the calling committee.

Menard has appointed two new three-year members to the nominating committee, Lu Matte and Sis Zieglar, who will begin work for the election in the spring.

Honorary Lifetime Membership certificates have been presented to Rae Matte, Cecile Zaunbrecher, Shirley Kilgore, Shirlene Robichaux and Esther Guillot for their years of dedicated work for the Pink Ladies. Those presenting these certificates were Yvonne Menard, Mary Briley and Sylvia Dischler.

During the past month, Ms. Menard sent thank you notes to Mr. Osbourne for writing the letter to the editor praising the work of the Pink Ladies, and to Jo Cart for her article about the Pink Ladies in the Rayne Independent.

The Pink Ladies are very grateful to the community for their help and encouragement in so many ways.

Sylvia Dischler, secretary, sent thank you notes to Mary Leger for donations to the Gift Shop, Martha Harmon for her help with the plants in the front entrance and Mr. Anthony Stymest for his work on the front entrance floors.

Mr. Mike Johnson of Aurora’s Flowers donated a bouquet to the Pink Ladies, and they were thankful for that as well.

The next meeting will be on September 29, in the hospital conference room.
