Pink Ladies hold monthly board meeting

On Monday, September 7, 2009, the Board of the Pink Lady Auxiliary met at 9 a.m. in the Conference Room of the American Legion Hospital.

Mary Briley, president, called the meeting to order and asked Elaine Robison to lead the Auxiliary Prayer and Pledge to the Flag. The roll was called and the minutes read by secretary Sylvia Dischler.

The treasurer’s report was given by Georgie Petitjean. The hospital has requested that the Pink Ladies contribute some funds towards the purchase of nursery equipment. The purchase will be made and the treasurer’s report was approved.

Mrs. Briley had received thanks from Anna Mae Leger and Thelma Istre for the “Get Well” wishes they received from the Pink Ladies while they were in the hospital.

New members Audrey Pryor and Cecile Spallino have been trained by Gayle Godeaux and are ready to go to work. Their shifts have been assigned. There is still a need for ladies to substitute since several Pink Ladies have become ill or have other obligations that prevent them from fulfilling their duties. Millie Pelly and Pris Popp are resigning.

Frankie Johnson and Helen Zaunbrecher of the Hospitality Committee are busy working on the October meeting. They have a speaker and the decorations are to be taken care of soon.

The Calling Committee of Thelma Istre and Babs Simon will be giving all the information for the October meeting to their committee members.

Nettie Romero reported that the Gift Shop sales were doing well. New candy prices and taxes charged on books were discussed. Ms. Romero asked that the Pink Ladies continue to distribute Christmas stockings to new babies born in December. It was agreed that the stockings be given as usual.

Committee chairmen were reminded that scrapbooks are to be brought to the meeting in October and that the newly elected officers must be installed at that time.

The Pink Ladies discussed giving items to remind the public of the fact that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Georgie Petitjean will check with Mr. Terry Osbourne before deciding on what items may be distributed. Also discussed was giving a gift to the October speaker and the possibility of accepting another lifetime honorary member.

The meeting was adjourned. The next board meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on September 28, 2009 in the hospital conference room.
