Pios top Gents in Junior American Legion action
CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Pioneers rallied for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and hung on for a 9-7 victory over Crowley High Wednesday in a Junior American Legion contest at Miller Stadium.
Notre Dame jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a two-out error by Crowley that allowed Andre Thibodeaux and Nick Gossen to score.
Brodie Deshotel and Kye Daigle each drove in two runs in the top of the second inning to put Crowley up 4-2 before Notre Dame answered with a bases-loaded walk to Gossen to cut the lead to one.
Chad Hoffpauir drove in two runs on a single to right and Deshotel and Taylor Doughty each singled in one run in the fourth to extend Crowley’s lead to 7-3.
Notre Dame answered in the sixth, scoring six runs on three hits, four walks and one error. Matt Reed, Jory Daigle, Robert Walton and Charlie Mayeaux each drove in a run in the inning.
Walton, who took the mound in the fifth in relief of Mayeaux, sat the side down in order in the top of the seventh to preserve the victory.
Crowley actually outhit the Pios 14-6 but made six errors and walked 10 batters in the loss.
Deshotel paced the Gents with three hits and three RBI while Hoffpauir, Daigle, Grant Clark and Jarrod Hebert each had two hits. Taylor Doughty, Nathan Richard and Steven Bertrand each finished with one hit.
Walton had two hits and one RBI for the Pios while Mayeaux, Thibodeaux and Daigle each had one hit and one RBI. Philip Artall also added a single in the victory.
