Pios top Jennings in Jr. Legion tilt; Gents slip past the Crowley Gators
CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Pioneers rallied for four runs in the third inning and held on for a 4-1 Junior American Legion victory over Jennings at Miller Stadium Monday evening.
The Pios broke open a scoreless game in the third courtesy of three walks by Jennings hurler Cody Helmick. With two outs and the bases loaded, Jackson Landry came through with a two-run double to right center field. A Jennings error extended the inning before Ross Holston doubled to right field to plate two more runs, putting the Pios up 4-0.
Jennings’ lone run crossed the plate in the sixth inning when Dylan Lavergne singled and scored on a double by Travis Legros.
Charlie Mayeaux logged the victory for the Pios, giving up one run on five hits and one walk through six innings.
Landry and Holston each doubled and drove in two runs while Robert Walton, Jory Daigle and Philip Artall each had a single in the victory.
In other Jr. Legion action, the CHS Gents upended the Crowley Gators, 6-4.
Chad Hoffpauir earned the victory for the Gents, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out seven in seven innings.
Brodie Deshotel led the Gents with three hits and one RBI. Kaleb Cormier, Jarret Hebert, Steven Bertrand, Grant Clark and Taylor Doughty each had one hit.
Billy Wartelle doubled and drove in one run for the Gators and Nick Benoit had one hit and two RBI. Cole Meche, Mike Reed, Luke Broussard, Brennan Stelly and Keagan Deaville each had one hit.
