Pirates RV Club enjoys stay at A&M Camp in Lyons Point
The Jean Lafitte Pirates RV Club traveled to A&M Campground in Lyons Point to enjoy a weekend of camping.
Those Pirates enjoying the campout were Sonny and Hershal Abshire, Wilbert and Ida Broussard, C.S. and Laudry Darbonne, Lander and Mae Duhon, Royal and Debbie Hebert, Greg and Brenda Hornsby, and Kenneth and Bertha Thibodeaux.
On Friday, Claude and Lana Breaux visited with the Pirates and also Gene Trahan.
On Saturday, Bobbie Williams visited.
August birthdays celebrated were Kenneth Thibodeaux, Wanda Richard and Wilbert Broussard.
There were no cookouts at this campout, but there was a delicious dutch treat at Hebert’s Steak House in Kaplan on Saturday.
All weekend long, there were plenty of finger foods provided by each camper, so no one could say they went hungry. The cooks just took a well deserved rest.
Ida entertained everyone with a story about her Uncle Harry, who was an American soldier in New Guinea during World War II. While trapped in a cave by the Japanese, he handcrafted a small sword, using a spent artillery shell as its handle. Having time on his hands, he did some wonderful art etchings on the blade
Of the sword and dated the object, August 5, 1945, New Guinea. Ida had the sword with her at the campout, but would not let those Pirates get their hands on it at all! Who needs a “blood bath” at a card table?
The next campout for the Pirates will be at Myers Campground in Lowry.
