Police catch third person in Meaux Grocery Store robbery
Walter Jerome Bessard, 30, from Abbeville was apprehended without incident Monday on a warrant for Principle to Armed Robbery for the Meaux’s Grocery robbery that happened just before New Year’s Eve last December.
Abbeville Police Chief Rick Coleman said Detective Stan Suire was able to locate and apprehend the suspect after several months.
According to a press release written by Coleman, on December 24, 2008 two masked subjects, one armed with an assault rifle, entered Eustis Meaux’s Grocery and demanded money from the employees behind the counter.
On February 13, 2009 the man with the gun was arrested by the Abbeville Police Department. Nicholas Dillard, age 20, was identified during the investigation as the armed robber and a warrant was issued for his arrest with the bond set at $250,000.00.
Subsequently, a juvenile suspect was also arrested for this crime.
Bessard’s arrest was the third arrest in this case and according to Detective Suire, one more arrest is to be made.

Bessard is currently being housed at the Vermilion Parish Jail. His bond is set at $100,000.
