Poverty Point helping to recycle Christmas trees

Poverty Point State Historic Site is recycling discarded live Christmas trees in an effort to reduce landfill waste that increases during this time of year.

From Dec. 26 through Jan. 2, people are encouraged to bring their trees – with all decorations removed -- to the parking lot beside the Epps town hall and place their trees in the fenced-off area.

The discarded trees will be picked up and taken to the Poverty Point SHS where they will be made into mulch. The mulch will be used in flower beds and other landscaping projects on the site.

Poverty Point State Historic Site offers visitors the opportunity to study the culture of area inhabitants from 1600 to 1300 B.C.

The $2 admission to the historic site provides access to the area museum, video and tram tour. Children (12 and under) and senior citizens (62 and over) are admitted free. Poverty Point is located in West Carroll Parish, east of Monroe on La. 577.

For more information call the park at 1-888-926-5492 toll free or 926-5492 in the Epps area.
