Precinct 2-2 voters going to Cade Fire Station

ST. MARTINVILLE – The Parish Council has changed its mind about making the Cade Community Center the new Precinct 2-2 polling place in place of the old recreation center, which is in need of renovation.

The polling place will still be moved but to the new Cade Fire Station across La. 182 instead.

The reason is that while elections are one-day affairs, it takes a day before and a day after to move the voting machines in and out. That’s a three-day window for each election when the parish would not be able to rent out the Cade Community Center.

There are already conflicts between known election dates and requests to rent the big new hall, said Parish President Guy Cormier.

The new fire station, which is just a little farther down La. 92 or Smede Highway, is large enough and with ample parking to serve as a polling place, he said.

Another proposal, to move the Precinct 9-3 polling place from the Huron Head Start School to the VFW hall, 1020 VFW Drive, Arnaudville, is still in the works.
