Prep baseball jamborees slated for Saturday
CROWLEY – The 2010 prep baseball season officially gets under way next week, but area fans can get a sneak peak of their favorite teams Saturday when squads across the state take part in their annual jamborees.
The Crowley Gents, who open the regular season Monday against Christian Life at Baton Rouge Community College, will once again participate in the Rayne Wolves Jamboree at Legion Field.
Action kicks off with two jayvee games beginning at 9 a.m. Rayne will take on the Welsh Greyhounds in the opener while Crowley will square off with the Church Point Bears in the second contest at 10:30.
Varsity action will get under way at noon with Welsh taking on Church Point. The Greyhounds will then take on Crowley at 1:30 p.m. before Rayne and Church Point take the field at 3. Crowley and Rayne will play in the finale at 4:30.
Each game will be a 1 ½-hour time limit or three innings, whichever comes first.
Admission for the day is $4 for adults and $2 for students.
Notre Dame will travel to Lafayette Saturday to take part in the Teurlings Jamboree.
The Pios’ jayvee team will play at 8 a.m. against Vermilion Catholic and at 10:20 against Teurlings.
Notre Dame’s varsity team will hit the field at 12:45 to take on VC and again at 3:15 to take on Teurlings.
The Pios will host Breaux Bridge on Tuesday at Miller Stadium in the regular season opener for both teams. The jayvee contest is set for 4 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.
Iota will also be in action, playing two games in the Perry Pitre Ford Jamboree in Eunice.
The Bulldogs’ varsity squad is slated to play Opelousas Catholic at 10 a.m. and Sacred Heart of Ville Platte at 11:10. Both games will be played at Eunice High School.
