Prep Roundup: Midland, Iota Lady Dogs and NCS Warriors all victorious

MIDLAND – The Midland Rebels and Lady Rebels made it a clean sweep Tuesday as each team knocked off Bell City in District 7-B action.

The Lady Rebels got things going in the opener with a 34-32 victory. Later, the Rebels walked away with a 51-22 victory in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Lady Rebels and the Lady Bruins battled back and forth all night and ended up tied at 24-24 heading into the fourth quarter.

Katie Primeaux came up big in the final frame with two 3-pointers and Morgan Clement hit two shots inside the arch as Midland outscored Bell City 10-8 to seal the victory.

Primeaux led the Lady Rebels with 12 points and Clement had 10. Haley Guidry followed with five points; Hannah Fremaux added four and Katie Woods scored two.

The boys’ game was less eventful down the stretch.

The Bruins kept it close early on and tied the game at 6-6 entering the second quarter.

It was all Midland after that.

The Rebels went on a 12-2 run in the second quarter to take an 18-8 advantage at the break before extending their cushion to 26-12 heading into the final frame.

The Rebels connected on 11 of their 15 free throws in the final eight minutes and outscored Bell City 25-8.

Andrew Hains led the Rebels’ charge with 14 points and Allen Fontenot scored nine. Chase Vincent, Alan Vondenstein and Darren Arceneaux each added seven points; Michael Primeaux scored four and Jake Gautreaux scored three.

Midland traveled to Grand Lake for their final regular- season game last night, but results were not available at press time.

Elsewhere, the Iota Lady Bulldogs and the Northside Christian Warriors were also winners.

The Lady Dogs went on a 32-16 run in the second half to knock off Pine Prairie, 57-33, while Northside cruised to a 69-37 victory over Lafayette Christian Academy in Crowley.

In Pine Prairie, Iota drained seven three-pointers in the victory that ended a two-game slide for the Lady Dogs. Anna Lege scored all 15 points from beyond the arch, draining five 3-pointers on the night.

Allison Baggett paced Iota with a game-high 26 points. Also scoring for the Lady Dogs were Caroline Hebert with six points, Madison Meche with four and Candace Sensat and Adalie Wriborg with three points each.

Iota will be in action again this evening when they play host to Mamou in their regular season finale.

In Crowley, Northside Christian jumped out to a 22-5 advantage in the first quarter and never looked back as the Warriors remained undefeated (11-0) at home on the season.

Ben Rogers and Pierce Rivera led the way for the Warriors with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Rogers added six rebounds and Rivera had five.

BJ Starks added nine points on three 3-pointers and Kade Miller scored eight. Randy LeBleu followed with seven points; Josh Wheeler scored four and Nick Gotte, Nathan Zeller and Joe Trahan each scored two.

Northside will be in action again Tuesday when the Warriors play host to Assembly Christian of New Iberia.

In other prep action, the Notre Dame Pioneers dropped a 50-46 decision to Kaplan.

The Pios led 36-28 after three quarters but were outscored 22-10 in the fourth frame.

Kaplan hit 10 of 15 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

B.J. Vidrine and Kane Thibodeaux led the Pios with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

Ricky Stoma pitched in seven points; Jeremy Smith added four points; Jacob Rogers and Stu Cook each scored three and Drew Trahan rounded out the Pios’ offense with two points.

Notre Dame will be in action again Friday when they travel to Erath to take on the Bobcats in a District 5-AAA contest.
