Propositions on the ballot for Saturday

CROWLEY – Three propositions are on the ballot for the Saturday, July 19 election.

On the ballot is the Law Enforcement District Proposition, which is a 5-year, 9 mills tax for the purpose of providing additional funding for the Acadia Parish Law Enforcement District, including paying the salaries and benefits of deputies, acquiring, operating and maintaining vehicles and communications equipment, and providing additional funding for operations and training.

Fire Protection District No. 3 has two propositions to be considered. The first is a 10 year parcel fee of $25 per lot on land which has a structure, in whole or in part, residential or commercial, occupied or unoccupied, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining and operating fire protection facilities and equipment, including the cost of obtaining water.

The second is a 10 year, 5.13 mills property tax continuation for acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining and/or operating fire protection facilities and equipment, including the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, and all purposes incidental thereto.

The town of Church Point will be considering a proposition for a one percent sales and use tax, to be used for any lawful corporate purpose, including the operation of senior citizen programs and paying the cost of constructing and maintaining capital improvements. The tax is replacing a seven mills ad valorem tax currently being levied for general purposes, with the proceeds of the tax being funded in bonds.

Polling places will open at 6 a.m. on election day and remain open until 8 p.m.

Need to vote are a driver’s license, a Louisiana Special ID or some other form of recognized picture ID. Voters will have to sign an affidavit furnished by the Elections Division in order to vote if they have no picture ID and only bring a utility bill, payroll check or government document that includes their name and address.
