Queb’s Picks: Kernan still leads the pack after eight weeks
By Chris Quebedeaux
While most contestants in the Crowley Post-Signal Football contest hovered around the five-loss mark last week, Greg Monceaux did the unthinkable.
Monceaux posted the best single-week record of the season, missing just one game to claim the contest’s top prize. Dustin Touchet followed close behind, missing two games to earn runnersup honors for the second week in a row.
Ignace Broussard brought up the rear of the pack, dropping 11 games.
As for myself, my upset picks fell short - thanks Michigan and Missouri - giving me seven losses on the week.
After eight weeks, Don Kernan still leads the pack with just 37 losses. Andrew Sarver follows with 46 while Donna Dartez and Douglas LaCombe each have 47 losses.
Elton Bourque, George Perry and Michael LeJeune each have 48 losses while myself, Robert Dartez and Kye Cante have 49.
Now on to this week’s picks:
On the high school level, I’m going with Crowley over Eunice for the District 4-AAA title and Notre Dame to beat North Vermilion, setting up a showdown for the 5-AAA title next week between the Pios and Kaplan.
I’m also taking Kaplan over Abbeville, Westlake over Church Point, Iowa over Northwest, Comeaux over Westgate, Northside over Cecilia, Teurlings over Beau Chene, Bunkie over Bolton, Avoyelles over Jena, Independence over Amite, University over Dunham, Gueydan over Vermilion Catholic and Erath over Rayne.
In the college ranks I’m taking LSU over Tulane, Oregon over USC in an upset, Texas over Oklahoma State, Ole Miss over Auburn, UL-Lafayette over Florida International, Lousiana College over Sul Ross State, Michigan over Illinois and Florida over Georgia.
