Queb’s Picks: League matchups highlight Week 6
By Chris Quebedeaux
The fifth week of the Crowley Post-Signal football contest proved to be a difficult one for the majority of the contestants, myself included.
Just about half of the weekly entries wound up with 10 or more losses while the other half tettered around the eight-loss mark.
Elton Bourque was one of the very few who didn have much of a problem though, winning the top prize after dropping just three games. Andrew Sarver took runnerup honors with six losses after edging out Steven Primeaux on the tiebreaker.
I was one of the many that finished with 10 losses while overall leader Don Kernan dropped eight games.
Dustin Touchet was pushed for the Boobie Prize but claimed that honor for the second time this season with 13 losses.
Hopefully this week will be much kinder to all.
Now on with the picks:
The prep scene is full of intriguing matchups with most teams playing their first district games of the season. Locally, I’m taking Crowley over Iowa, Notre Dame over Erath, Church Point over Northwest, Iota over Kinder and Kaplan over Rayne.
In other high school games, I’m going with Westlake over Eunice, Comeaux over New Iberia, St. Thomas More over Cecilia, Dutchtown over Destrehan, Northside over Teurlings, Bolton over Jena, Redemptorist over West Feliciana, Jeanerette over Port Barre, Gueydan over Ascension Episcopal and West St. John over Christian Life.
On the college level, I’m taking LSU in an epic upset over Florida. Tebow might as well sit this one out.
My Michigan Wolverines took one on the chin last week, but I don’t expect it to happen again. I’m taking my Maze and Blue in an upset over Iowa.
In other college games I’m taking Tennessee over Georgia, Oregon over UCLA, Missouri over Nebraska, Alabama over Ole Miss and UL-Lafayette over North Texas.
