Ragin Cajuns announce 2009 football schedule
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns 2009 football schedule was announced by the athletics department on Saturday.
The Cajuns 12-game slate features six home games beginning with the season opener and ninth annual Herbert Heymann Football Classic on Saturday, Sept. 5 vs. Southern University.
For the first time ever, Southern University and its “Often Imitated, Never Duplicated” Human Jukebox marching band will travel to Cajun Field. The band has been featured in movies, television commercials and has been invited to participate in the annual Rose Parade, Presidential Inauguration ceremonies and five Super Bowl halftime shows. The USA Today once named the band the No. 1 marching band in the United States.
The Cajuns will remain at home the following week, battling Big XII-member Kansas State. The game is a rematch of last season’s tightly contested game in Manhattan, Kan.
Following their season-opening homestand, the Cajuns travel to Louisiana State (Sept. 19), Nebraska (Sept. 26) and Western Kentucky (Oct. 3). UL returns from Bowling Green to play two of the next three games at home. The team hosts North Texas (Oct. 10) and Florida Atlantic (Oct. 24) around a trip to Arkansas State (Oct. 17). The game with FAU will serve as the Cajuns 64th homecoming.
After traveling to Miami to face FIU on Halloween, the Cajuns will enjoy an open date the first week of November. The final road game of the season pits UL at Middle Tennessee (Nov. 14).
The Cajuns finish the regular season with a pair of home games against Louisiana-Monroe (Nov. 21) and Troy (Nov. 28).
