Rayne All-Stars claim tournament championships
All-star action is in full swing with a number of both boys and girls teams successfully participating in tournaments over the weekend (July 6-8).
In boy’s pinto action, both teams traveled to Iowa for their section tournament.
The Pinto Nationals went 1-2 for the three-day event. Rayne lost to Erath Friday evening, gained a win over Loureauville Saturday, but fell to Delcambre Saturday afternoon.
The Pinto Americans (Drillers) claimed the 2012 Section III Championship going 3-0 for the weekend. They claimed wins over Lydia 19-8, Delcambe 19-8, Iowa 14-9 and Erath 16-11 in the finals.
The Pinto Americans will now head to Picayune, Miss. this weekend for their Super Regional that will be attended by teams from Louisiana and Mississippi.
In boy’s mustang league all-star action, the Americans claimed their Section Tournament Championship held in Welsh. Enroute to their 15-5 finale win over Iota, they also defeated Kinder (16-1) and Iota (6-1).
The mustang Nationals were 0-2 in tournament play, falling to Kinder and Iota.
The mustang Americans will now travel to Ertah this week for their Suer Regionals. They begin play Friday during a 6 p.m. game against Jennings.
In boy’s pony league action, the Rayne All-Stars will not have to travel much as their district tournament will be held this week in Rayne at Gossen Memorial Park. They are scheduled to open play today (Thursday) at 8 p.m. against Iowa.
In girls’ all-star action, Crowley will be the site this weekend for regional play. Three Rayne teams, pinto, mustang and bronco league all-star teams will be in action at the Crowley Recreation Department.
A warm-up tournament, the Stars and Stripes Tournament, was held over the weekend in Moss Bluff attended by the Rayne girl’s pinto and bronco all-stars.
The Rayne Shockers (8 and under coach pitch all-stars) began pool play defeating the Lake Charles Bombers 15-9 before a close 6-4 loss the Moss Bluff Elite.
In bracket play, the Shockers defeated Iowa 12-7 and The Moss Bluff Crush 14-1. In the finals, they redeamed themselves by defeating the Moss Bluff Elite 8-2, forcing a tie-breaker between the two teams. The Shockers slipped by the Elite 9-8 for the championship tournament title.
The Girl’s Bronco All-Stars also traveled to Moss Bluff for the Stars and Stripes warm-up tournament in preparation for this week’s regionals. The 12 and under All-Stars was 0-1 in pool play and 0-2 during bracket games.
If any girl’s all-star teams place first or second at regionals, they will qualify for their National Zone Tournament slated the last weekend of July in Mandeville.
