Baseball all-star teams of the 2013 Rayne Recreation Summer Program continued to participate in area tournaments over the weekend.
The Pinto Americans (Hurricanes) traveled to Crowley where they participated in their Super Regional Tournament. They finished in third place, just shy of continuing in post-season play. They lost to Opelousas in the semi-finals over the weekend tournament.
The hurricanes took runner-up honors last week during their Section Tournament, qualifying for their Super Regionals.
In Mustang action, the The Rayne Americans (Storm) All-Stars, who took home the Mustang Section champiinship banner last week in Crowley, traveled to Erath for their Super Regional Tournament.
Working their way in the consolation bracket, the Storm battled back all weekend, ending up in the finals Tuesday evening where they met the unbeaten Crowley Allstars. During Tuesday’s finals, Rayne defeated Crowley 11-7, forcing an if necessary game. In the second game of the night, Crowley slipped by the Rayne Allstars, 5-4 for the title.
The Rayne Bronco All-Stars traveled to Scott over the weekend for their Super Regionals Tournament. Action continued into Monday evening when Rayne fell to the Crowley Allstars, settling with a third place finish to cap off a productive season. Rayne qualified for the tournament with a District Championship they claimed last week at Jennings.
In Pony action, the Rayne All-Stars hosted their Section Tournament last week when they placed second, qualifying for their Super Regionals slated in Crowley this week. They are scheduled to begin play Thursday (today) during an 8 p.m. contest against the hosting Crowley Allstars.
