Rayne Chamber board members discuss fund-raising plans
By PAUL KEDINGER
After a summer hiatus from monthly meetings, directors of the Rayne Chamber of Commerce met informally on Wednesday, Sept. 1, due to the lack of a quorum.
Executive Director Miles Boudreaux reported the annual Chamber banquet will be held on Jan. 27, 2011, at Chef Roy’s Frog City Café.
Boudreaux also gave a brief report on Chamber activities since the last board meeting, mentioning the July 30 ribbon-cutting for Sweet P’s BBQ and Frozen Rayne SnoCones and the grand opening and Business After Hours event hosted by the Rayne branch of Farmers State Bank on Aug. 16. He also congratulated Nick Simoneaux as the recipient of the Business of the Quarter recipient and anounced a grand opening Sept. 18 for Out and About Salon.
Director Byron Foote gave a preliminary report on the second annual Wheelin’ N Peelin’ fund-raiser scheduled for May 14, 2011, at the Frog Festival Fairgrounds.
Vice President Nikki Link discussed hosting a Mardi Gras Ball as a potential fund-raiser next year, indicating she is investigating possible sites. She also indicated the ball would use a disc jockey instead of a live band for entertainment.
Board President Angie Broussard expressed the hope that membership would increase following the board’s decision to create a separate, independent association to oversee the annual Frog Festival. Broussard noted that some residents harbored the opinion that the Chamber’s [previous sole focus was on the festival.
