Rayne Frog Festival delayed

Officials with the Rayne Chamber of Commerce have announced that the Rayne Frog Festival, has been postponed until the weekend of Nov. 7-9.

The annual festival had been scheduled for this weekend, but due to Hurricane Gustav and the inability of Mitchell Bros. Carnival to make their way into the city, it was delayed.

Festival Coordinator Cheryl R. McCarty says, “Festivals in Louisiana are such a strong part of our culture and heritage that we feel the best way to recover from tragedy is to celebrate the community spirit in which all of our festivals are steeped in.  However, due to the news of Mitchell Bros. Carnival not being able to make their way into Rayne, it is unfortunate that we’re going to have to postpone our event”

With the new November dates, McCarty says there might be minor adjustments made to festival details and entertainment lineups, but it is anticipated that things should proceed as planned.

Rayne Chamber of Commerce President Angie Broussard, Chamber Director Jan Cormier as well as Festival Coordinator McCarty have been receiving and making phone calls and the general feeling of those participating is disappointment in knowing that the festival will not be able to proceed as plannedthe first weekend in September.

“We respect the decision that was made by Mitchell Bros. Carnival in the interest of the security of their employees and property and wish things had turned out differently.  We fully expect the new dates in November to provide the perfect setting for a successful festival,” says McCarty.  “For those concerned about fees paid for parade entries, booths, etc., we will simply transfer those fees to our November dates.”

The best musical showcases in the area, the smells of delicious regional foods, which of course, includes fried frog legs, and the sights of our signature Frog Derby, frog racing and frog jumping contests make Rayne the place to be the first full weekend in November – make your plans now to attend the 36th Annual Rayne Frog Festival, November 7-9.
