Rayne Frog Festival This Weekend

The Rayne Frog Festival is celebrating its 40th year this weekend (Nov. 7-11). Once again, festival goers will be sheltered from the elements when the 2012 Rayne Frog Festival opens under the 20,000 sq. ft. pavilion located on the festival grounds just off Interstate 10, Exit 87 in Rayne.

Festival attendees will find plenty of free parking adjacent to the fairgrounds, and a number of spaces for RV campers are available next to the grounds and can be reserved by contacting Robert “Foot” Senegal, City of Rayne at (337)334-6661.

Festival introductions and honors officially begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, with opening ceremonies on the stage under the pavilion.

Mitchell Brothers & Son Amusements will be offering their ride all you can wristbands special from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. for $20. Festival vendor booths will also be open offering food, drink and souvenirs.

There will be no gate admission for the weekend for children under 12 years of age. Adult gate admission prices on Friday will be $5.00 and Saturday $5.00 until 3:00 p.m. – after 3 p.m. admission will be $7.00. Ride all you can wristbands will be available Saturday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. for $20.

Festival booths on the grounds will offer all types of food including adult beverages, hamburgers, fried frog legs, sandwiches, po-boys, assorted seafood, funnel cakes, soft drinks, lemonade and many more tasty treats. Rayne Frog Festival souvenirs include the collector’s edition 40th Anniversary Rayne Frog Festival poster, long and short sleeve t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, koozies and postcards will be available throughout the weekend at the souvenir booth.

Inside the Rayne Civic Center, adjacent to the festival grounds, the Arts, Crafts & Gifts Market will feature booths offering a wide variety of handmade items. The show, hosted by the Rayne Beautification Board, will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Saturday ONLY.

The 40th Annual Rayne Frog Festival features an exciting lineup of musicians that will be entertaining under the pavilion, beginning Friday with “Da Classics” at 7:00 p.m., “Jamie Bergeron & the Kickin’ Cajuns” at 8:30 p.m. and fan favorite, “Keith Frank” 10:30 p.m. till midnight.

Booths open at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning, Nov. 10, with the popular Diaper Derby sponsored by the Rayne Jaycees at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Project Dance Performance Team under the direction of Nikki Link. Enjoy exhibition performances by Third Dragon Karate Academy at 10:30 a.m.

Mr. & Miss Tadpole royalty, Rayne Frog Festival and local royalty will be introduced at 11:00 a.m. The Rayne Lions Club will stage its Frog Derby Queen’s competition, featuring costumed frogs and frog racing by contestants at 11:30 a.m.

The Frog Festival Golf Tournament will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Cajun Pines Golf Club located in Branch.

The signature event of the festival, the popular Frog Racing and Jumping contests, open to the public, will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Stage II. Register and rent a frog from the Rayne Jaycees, who co-sponsor the event with The Rayne-Acadian Tribune. The contests are open to all age groups, from young children to adults.

Saturday’s entertainment kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with “Cajun Heat”, followed by “Ronnie Mathews” at 2:30 p.m., “T.K. Hulin” at 4:30 p.m., “Charlie Rivers” at 6:30 p.m. and “5th Avenue” at 8:30 p.m.

Back by popular demand to close out the Saturday night celebration, it’s “Percy Sledge” from 10:30 p.m. till midnight.

Once again Mitchell Brothers & Son Amusements will open Sunday, Nov. 11, from 11:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. at the Frog Festival Fairgrounds.

Celebrate the 40th Annual Frog Festival with Grand Parade rolling through the streets of Rayne at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, from American Legion Drive, traveling up North Adams Avenue and the Boulevard and ending at the festival fairgrounds where the party continues with Mitchell Brothers & Son Amusements from 11- 4 p.m. Line up will begin at 2 p.m.
