Rayne High’s Simoneaux doubles at 3A State Meet
BATON ROUGE – Rayne High’s Annie Simoneaux led the way for the Acadia Parish contingent Saturday at the Class AAA Track and Field Championships held at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
Simoneaux won the discus (118-8) and the javelin (142-10) to score 20 points and help lead the Lady Wolves to an eighth-place overall finish in the meet.
The junior standout came up short just two inches nation’s best this season in the javelin, marking her personal best.
Teammate Krystal Chevis also scored for Rayne with a third-place showing in the 400-meter run (57.97) despite a knee injury she sustained in the 100-meter dash when she had to pull out in mid-race. Her time in the 400 was her best showing, also.
Notre Dame followed on the girls’ side at No. 20 with six points.
Anne Catherine Venable placed fourth in the high jump (5-2) and Mayme Cook was fifth in the javelin (113-11).
On the boys’ side, Church Point’s Caleb Stanford was second in the pole vault (14-0) and Notre Dame’s Philip LeBlance was runnerup in the javelin (191-7).
