Rayne High hosts Wolf Relays

The Rayne High Track Team placed a number of members ahead of their competitors Friday evening during the 2012 annual Wolf Relays held at Wolf Stadium.
In girls’ action, Nia Taylor placed in three events, taking top honors in the triple jump with a leap of 35-7.5. She also nabbed a third place in the long jump at 16-4.
Taylor also placed on the track as she won the 400-meter dash with a 1:03.63 winning time.
Taylor Arceneaux added to the Lady Wolves’ point total with a third place finish in the discus (85-5).
The Abbeville girls walked away with the team title with 174 points. Teurlings was second (72) and Erath was third (68). Notre Dame followed in fourth place with 61 points followed by Crowley (57) and Rayne (51).
Notre Dame’s Aline Gossen placed first in the 3200-meter run (12:20.80) and third in the 1600 (6:11.07). Peyton Miller added a second-place finish in the javelin (103-1), while Taylor Gray was third in the 800 (2:41.71) and Elizabeth Ledet third in the 3200 (13:44.51).
On the boys’ side, Erath won the meet with 118 points, Jennings was second (103.5) and Delcambre was third (88.5). Host Rayne finished seventh with 34 points.
Crowley scored 80.5 points and finished fourth in the eight-team field while Notre Dame was sixth with 40.5 points.
Leading Rayne points was Jalen Williams who placed second in the 200-meter dash (23.30) and third in the 100-meter dash (11.62).
Van Myles placed third in the long jump with a 21-3 leap.
Notre Dame was led by Hunter Stelly. The sophomore claimed top honors in the field with a winning heave of 45-10 in the shot put a first-place throw of 180-8 in the javelin.
Blake Miller won the 100-meter dash (11.33) and Joe Schmid was second in the triple jump (40-9.5).
Crowley, led once again by Rontrevius Foreman, logged four first-place finishes on the day.
Foreman continued his dominance in the distance events by winning the 800-meter run (2:09.94) and the 1600 (4:57.04).
The Gents’ 4x200-meter relay team of Kirk Poullard, Taylor Doughty, Kaleb Cormier and Chanz Moore was also victorious with a season-best time of 1:32.12.
Cormier added a first-place showing in the triple jump with a mark of 42-0.
Crowley’s 4x400-meter relay team added to the point total with a second-place finish (3:33.36) while Doughty was third in the 400-meter run (52.40).
Rayne High will have Easter Week off, followed by the Acadia Parish Meet slated for Friday, April 13, at Iota High School.
The 5-3A District Meet will be held this year at Church Point High School on Wednesday, April 18, with top district winners advancing to Regionals on April 25-26 at UL-Lafayette.
