Rayne High School’s class of 1942 gather for reunion
The 1942 graduating class of Rayne High School gathered on Saturday, May 24, at Chef Roy’s Frog City Café for a class reunion.
The noon luncheon was enjoyed by classmates Renola Bourque, Rita Neu, Evie Harmon, Will Robert Kennedy, Charles “Moon” Chappuis, Braxton I. “B.I.” Moody, Hebert Hernandez and Clyde Melancon.
Clyde Melancon traveled the farthest to attend the reunion, arriving from Costa Mesa, Calif.
Enjoyed during the gathering was the Pledge of Allegiance, roll call, acknowledgement of guests, reading of minutes, Alma Mater song, and a moment of silence for deceased classmates.
Class officers include: president Charles “Moon” Chappuis, vice president Margaret Cunningham, secretary Nell Cunningham, and treasurer Allen Plattsmier.
Committee members included Charles “Moon” Chappuis, Rita Neu and Renola Bourque.
Door prizes for the reunion were won by Renola Bourque and Rita Neu.
The class colors are scarlet and silver, class flower the sweet pea,, class song the school’s Alma Mater, and the class motto, “The Past Gone Forever, the Future Still Our Own.”
Deceased classmates remembered were Leora Arceneaux, John D. Arceneaux, Nelson Begnaud, James Bernard, Eugene Blanchard, Francis L. Borne, Mary Alice Chandler, Preston Cryer, Nell Cunningham, Jack Hains Jr., Harris Johnston, Emelie Kahn, Gladys Leger, Melba Morgan, Numa Richard Jr., Jane Soileau, Elwin Spell, Amy Ruth Boudreaux, Maurice Boudreaux, Cline Fontenot, Wilma Richard, Charles Bacheller, Flora Mae Spell, Cephor Marie Labbe, Myrtle Catherine Theriot Brooks, Nelson Gregory Richard and Margaret Ann Baer McGrew.
