Rayne man charged with murder
RAYNE – Chief of Police Carroll Stelly has announced the arrest of a suspect in the slaying of a Rayne woman Tuesday afternoon.
The woman, Sharelle Charles, died as a result of multiple stab wounds inflicted by her assailant.
Rayne Police were notified of a disturbance at 509 N. Bradford St. at 12:32 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Upon arrival, officers discovered Charles at the residence with injuries. Acadian Ambulance responded and transported Charles to American Legion Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
After a short investigation, Rayne detectives developed a suspect and arrested Quinton James Mouton, 38, of 407 North Bradford St. in Rayne. Mouton was charged with 2nd degree murder and is being held in the Rayne jail. Bond was set by Rayne City Judge Jim Cunningham at $350,000.
The investigation is still ongoing.
