Rayne man dies in Lafayette accident
RAYNE – A Rayne passenger involved in a two-vehicle collision on LA 724 at its intersection with Landry Road in Lafayette Parish suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
Killed was Damion Powell of Rayne. He was a passenger of a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Brandon Cummings, of Baton Rouge, La. Powell was not wearing a seatbelt.
Cummings, 25, was driving the Cobalt on St. Landry Road when he failed to yield at the stop sign on Landry Road at LA 724.
Cummings’ vehicle was struck broadside by a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Coy Duhon, 25, of Duson.
Alcohol use is not suspected, according to Louisiana State Police-Troop 1 but, following state law, a blood and urine test was conducted on Cummings, and the results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge.
Duhon consented to a breath test for alcohol and his test results were 000g percent.
