Rayne memorial service, program held in memory of Skylar Credeur

RAYNE - A loving tribute and fundraiser for the late Skylar Lee Credeur and her family was held Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Rayne High School north gym.

The 20-year-old was found drowned on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at her home in the Link community. The 2011 Rayne High graduate was a chemistry major at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette at the time of her death.

Spearheaded by RHS faculty member Renee Harelson and members of Skylar’s 2011 graduating class and led by class representative Hunter Prejean, the 3 p.m. special vigil and fundraiser was attended by a number of family members, classmates and friends.

Prejean welcomed family members and guests for the memorial, and also served as the program’s emcee.

Presented during the program was a slide presentation of Skylar’s full, but short life.

Offering a musical tribute was Tyler Bonnet, who sang “It’s So Hard to Say Good-Bye To Yesterday” by Boys II Men.

A special presentation was then made to the family from donations collected for funeral expenses.

Deacon Tim Ledet of St. Joseph Catholic Church offered the opening prayer, with the closing prayer led by Rev. Richard, a family friend.

Harelson ended with a heart-felt memorial in Skylar’s memory, including a phrase written by Skylar and found by her mother: “I believe in the sun, even when it is not shining; in love, even when I am alone; and God, even when he is silent.”

Donations can still be made to MidSouth Bank for a benefit account established in the name of Skylar Credeur.

The Sunday event not only memorialized Skylar Credeur, but celebrated the life of Jacob Milligan, one of Credeur’s classmates who died in 2011.
