Rayne presented State Cleanest City Award
Rayne City Hall was the scene Wednesday afternoon, June 5, as the City of Rayne was awarded the 2013 State Cleanest City Award in category “F” population by the Louisiana Garde Club Federation.
Making the presentation was State Cleanest City Chairman Jean Gilstrap, joined by LGCF State President Mary Jabobs.
Accepting the award on behalf of the city was Mayor Roland Boudreaux, joined by Rayne Garden Club President Julia Breaux and Cleanest City Chairman Sepha Guidry.
“We have many groups and individuals to thank for this award,” stated Mayor Boudreaux while accepting the award. “The ladies of the Rayne Garden Club, city workers, civic organizations, DOC workers, and the citizens of Rayne are to be commended on a job well done.”
Mayor Boudreaux acknowledged everyone in attendance for the ceremony, in addition to the staff of City Hall and his wife, Janet, for preparing a light lunch for the program.
He also mentioned a new program recently promoted with students at Martin Petitjean Elementary as ambassadors of “Litter Free and Recycling.” The mayor explained the program and displayed posters created by the students promoting a litter-free city. It is the mayor’s wish to “continue the student ambassador program and encourage pride of our city by all its citizens beginning with our future leaders.”
