Rayville man receives 25-year prison sentence

A Rayville man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison on drug charges.

Fifth District Attorney William R. Coenen Jr. announced Vincent J. Griffin, 44, of 213 Rescue St., Rayville pled guilty to four drug charges ranging from distribution of cocaine to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Griffin was sentenced to 23 years in prison on the charges Dec. 3.

“Griffin was a major drug dealer in Rayville,” Assistant District Attorney Doug Wheeler, who handled the prosecution, said.

It took investigators from the Richland Parish Sheriffs Office several months of undercover investigations to put together a case on Griffin.

Wheeler went on to say that “the sentence of 25 years was an appropriate sentence for Griffin’s long criminal history.”

Coenen thanked the Richland Parish Sheriffs Office, narcotics investigators for their hard work on this case. Judge Glynn Roberts sitting ad hoc sentenced Griffin.

In addition to the conviction of Vincent Griffin, Coenen announced that nine other felony guilty pleas were entered on the same day.

• Thaddeus Autman, age 25, of Rayville, was convicted of attempted possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to five years to run consecutively with a prior sentence of eight years for a total of 13 years.

• Tasper Marzette of Rayville pled guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Marzette received a 25-year sentence with 10 years suspended.

• William G. Taylor Jr. of Girard pled guilty of DWI third offense on Dec. 8. He is set for sentencing on Jan. 21, 2009, Coenen said.
