Rebels, Lady Pios victorious; Lady Rebs fall short
MIDLAND – A low-scoring first quarter seems like a distant memory after Midland pulled away from Basile in the second quarter and never looked back.
The Rebels defeated Basile 71-26 Tuesday night in Midland’s late game of the evening.
The win gave Midland an 18-2 record while the 5-1A Bearcats fell to 4-8 on the year.
Both teams started off quietly being held to a meager 8-2 score in favor of the homestead Rebels.
But in the second, Midland’s shots began to fall and they promptly outscored Basile 20-6, 21-12 and 22-6 in each quarter respectively, or a combined 63-24.
The game featured three Rebels in double digits and a total of nine scorers from Midland.
Basile, meanwhile, had only one player break double digits and five total scorers.

Lady Pios 46, Lady Vikings 39
CROWLEY – There was nothing easy about the Lady Pios’ game against the 5-4A Northside Lady Vikings Tuesday.
But the hard-fought 46-39 victory is just what Notre Dame needed as it ended their two game losing streak.
Northside either held the lead or was tied for the lead for the first three quarters, but Notre Dame led the game when it mattered most.
The odd numbered frames belonged to the visiting Lady Vikings as they led the game 12-8 in the first quarter.
The Lady Pios charged back outscoring Northside 10-6 and tieing up the game at 18 by halftime.
Again in the third quarter though, Northside inched ahead, going into the final quarter with a 32-31 lead.
But the Lady Pios once again pulled ahead, outscoring the Lady Vikings 15-7 and picking up the victory.
Two Lady Pios picked up double digits scoring, Marianna Charles with 12 points and Marie Ledet with 11; while six others also scored, Sam Lyons had seven, Alex Miller had six, Gabbie Romero had four and Mallory Chiasson, Katherine Kirsch and Hanna Esthay each had two.
Northside’s Talanna George led the Lady Vikings with 12, followed by Kaysha Etienne and Shayla Sam with six each.
Lady Bearcats 58, Lady Rebels 55
MIDLAND – The Lady Rebels have had little break their way perfectly this season.
Tuesday night was no different as Basile edged out the Lady Rebels by a score of 58-55 in Midland’s early game.
Thanks to the victory, the Lady Bearcats improved to 12-6, while Midland fell to 8-15 on the season.
The first quarter belonged to Basile as the Lady Bearcats exited the frame ahead 23-11. But Midland would storm back in the second quarter, outscoring Basile 22-10 and bringing the game to a 33-33 tie at the break.
Basile would once again pull ahead in the third quarter with a 13-10 quarter of play. That three point margin would be crucial as Midland and Basile would go score for score in the fourth, leaving that the Lady Bearcats three point lead after the third as the difference at the end of the game.
In their losing effort, the Lady Rebels saw great offensive play from Bethany LeJeune (18 points) and Maci Premo (17 points) as well as six others who contributed a total of 20 points.
